  • fucking awesome.

  • 'Captain Schettino, the master in command/buggered off immediately/a FINE upstanding man [sarcasm]'.

  • On the 15th April, 2012 it will the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic disaster.

  • 1st album I ever owned

  • ive never seen this clip , ty for posting.

  • genius at work....just look at legendary bands like the stranglers and xtc and they're videos which came after this ...these guys were pioneers...b4 theyre time

  • Im 30 and didn't hear this song till i was 25, i nearly died when i heard it, so ahead of its time. gives me goosebumps every time.

  • 4:20 It's not dead, it's only pining for the fjords.

  • Does anyone else think that George is trying to impersonate Serge Gainsbourg @ the casino table?

  • in 1978 I was 18... can you imagine my memories.....

  • Always being a fan of the Titanic history ( not the Jack and Rose story ), I loved this song.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @Thebirdienumnum I have been OBSESSED with the Titanic thing. The one thing that really sticks with me out of everything I've read is when they said the ship got pretty verticle and the NOISE of the tons of crockery and cutlery breaking and crashing. You can easily imagine that. That is when you KNOW it's serious.

  • Loved this band. This takes me back.!

  • As a thirteen year old I loved the beat and found the portent and doom quite scary. A wonderful song. WTF is with the hate comments below me???? Scary. Can't they all go cage fighting or something? Where would Aussie music be without Vanda and Young? I visited their office and studios (well, the foyer) in King St in Sydney once in 83 when I first started work there. It was like walking into The Vatican except MUCH smaller and without the pretension and treasures. Just LOTS of gold records.

  • @PeterHBne1 i can tell you exactly where aussie music would be without vanda and young, in the trash. i was only 6 when this came out i discovered it in the 90's when i raided my older brothers record collection. only found out recently that this was vanda and young had heard of them from the easybeats but didn't know this was them. great stuff though.

  • nzoz.. evry time I look for a clip mate.. your it... Top quality , gold, Thanks for the 10th time.

  • @seaeagles64 no worries, and thank you for the encouraging comment.

  • i just think its a song..............sing it ..enjoy it or not but i still dont know why tony christie has to get to amarillo

  • Maybe W Bush should have claimed the Twin Towers hit an Iceberg...

I-Guess it's possible 911 in New York was an argument between the evil Jews appearing to oppose Lucifer as an angel of light & the angelic Jews supporting him as Satan & both combined are Ancient Wisdom & thus it was an Iceberg full of thermite in Osama Bin-Vanstone's arse in a cave that brought the Twin Towers down because heaven forbid the same type of lies are used both for a cover story & for plausable deniability...

  • this song is so bad it's great.

  • @Espie1979 It isn't a bad song... you have got that really wrong... the arrangement is good... the vocals is an early example of white rap and the 'rapper' is no other than Angus and Malcolm Young's big brother George... AC/DC!

  • @nzoz1978 yeah you are right, it isn't that bad, just some really cheesy bits.

  • @nzoz1978 This is no rap, they do not sing about defiling women and killing people.

  • You've seen how easily Zionist Illuminati used THEIR media to spin post 911 over everything well the Titanic was the same so before you high-born high bred Sons & Daughters of Solomon (Illuminati) gp to meet & greet with the god of this world you should know not everyone believes in you anymore & not everyone follows you for money (Many do) but many who will never give up wait in the darkness outside of Lucifer's light & they'll get you murderous genocidal creeps & tear your Grand Lodge apart...

  • @spacelizardlaw stick a Valium in your arse and relax man.

  • @genxfrog ... Expert on anal-insertions are-we "genxfrog" because I-kind of gave that up long before ever experimenting with weird ways to smoke a bong or consume alcohol...

What's your particular technique for disappearing up your own fundamental...???

Please go-on share-it with the world & put-it on YouTube for Buddha's fcuking sake...

Do you use an artificial lubricant yourself or is your heartfelt 'BS' naturally slkippery...???

  • @spacelizardlaw the answers to all your questions can be found in your mommas fly infested armpit.

  • @genxfrog ... You knew my momma...??? What was the assumed name she took on when she was running CIA Crack Cocained money down to the Clinton's at Whitewater to be laundered...??? See we seriously lost track of her after she faked her own death with CIA help in the 70's to cover-up some black-op shite down in Australia but we know she surfaced with an occasional home base in Newark New Jersy but then the trail goes colder than a Jews heart at Christmas time...

What was that about fly's boy..???

  • Captain Smith is being attacked rather a lot here. How much was he really to blame for the Titanic hitting that berg and sinking; as I understand it (from documentaries which I've seen on and off over the years) he tried his best to avoid it. Also apparently the fog made it hard to see waves breaking on the bergs, so they couldn't be spotted early.

  • I actually find this track more emotionally stirring than that bloody Celine Dion sond from 'Titanic'.

  • una melodía asombrosa gracias. brilliantisisisisisimo!

  • Just brilliant!

  • Vanda&Young?...Malcoms Bro'

  • find my hidden comments to get some real juicy gossip about this band!

    press see all.

  • @figbat1 How about you press the FUCK OFF button!!

  • i came up with a theory that involves the book of genesis (fig leaves) buddha (sitting under the bodhi fig tree) jesus (many sayings aobut figs) ross horne's book (new health revolution) and science (figs are the most important source of food fro fruit eating rainforest animals). i then expereimented on the figs by eating mainly dried figs(same brand) for over 6 years now and found cycles which i related to the numbers in psgs 11/12 of the book of revelations. this theory has gone everywhere.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!.......want to know some juicy gossip about this band that they dare not print in the magazines.....go to "eleanor rigby nzoz1971" and read my 3 comments. regards.

WHAT A GREAT SONG AND VIDEO!

  • I much prefer this to 'My Heart Will Go On'.

  • great. loved this song hmm. last century. struth. . anolddigger

  • very good music! i Like it!

  • Harry Vanda also was on the Australian dvd A Long Way To The Top,about his days in the Easybeats and Australian music fantastic to watch...

  • Jesus nzoz you really do have tracks straching back a lot of years. I love it :)

  • @taipan185 Stretching

  • @MrCriticOfAll for some odd reason I make mistakes like that now and then it's like my brian is saying one thing and my fingers want to do something else.

  • @MrCriticOfAll OK it took me quite a bit to work out why i wrote that i didnt mean to offened you as i was only trying to funny sorry i mustve taken 2 pain killers.

  • Yeah bits of "I heard it through the grapevine" and "holding out for a hero"! I love it!

  • Why does this remind me of Dire Straits?

  • This video could be one of the greatest "piss takes" of all time. I love Flash & The Pan!

  • Yes, there were music videos before MTV -- and they were pretty bad then, too! ;) Love the song though, and "Man in the Middle" is a close second for my favorite from this album after this one.

  • At 3:08 the First Officer looks like he wants to "make a lady" of the Captain. But where oh where are the white carnations? Without those they are never gonna fall in love again.

(Prologue: The First Officer did survive the disaster. Not long after became a young Doctor. And several years after that, he hassled the Hoff.)

  • I love you Youtube!

  • This is all so amazing. Love it.

  • Always Loved Flash and The Pan and always had a fascination of the Titanic, so this was and still is a fun great song for Moi!!!!

  • What a great song

  • best song ever

  • Those Young brither's are so clever...Angus brother

  • I liked this when I was a kid. I used to get this and Hey St Peter (another Flash & The Pan song) mixed up.

  • @Thurbane316 Hahaha, so did i!

  • @thekookabear George is Angus & Macolm's older brother & managed ACCA for a while

  • You'd never pick that George is Angus's cousin or something would you ?? Not a big fan of acca but HUGE respect. Smart moves=Good vibes= Sales. Long live the Lads.Formulatic pub rock which has endured the test of time . THAT'S THE TEST!!!! These dudes are now up there with the Stones and Aerosmith as enduring bands

  • haaha there are so many errors in this film clip but then again im only 15 so some might be right

  • thank f#ck for youtube, i could never find this song because i had the name wrong, always thought it was called "and the band played on". great song.

  • Doesn't Captain Smith cop a roasting in this film clip, so very clever and funny.

    LOL haha.

  • excellent song, parts of it reminds me a bit of "Airport" by The Motors.

    thanks for posting

you could suppose that Jim Steinman had perhaps used the refrain for "Holding Out For A Hero" - 6 years later

  • Remember waiting for a train???

  • Haunting dramatic and frantic mixed into one classic song awesome!!!

  • looks like angus young! lol

  • @tantricjay Its Angus' brother George!

  • this song is a gem. The combination of piano, violin, throw in a horn, and music and lyrics by Vanda and Young, and the end result is a timeless classic.

  • I remember when these Flash and the Pan Video's first came out, and they featured on the ABC programme "Flashez". Good show.

  • Seit wann war John Cave ein Pädophiler? Scheiße Kopf

  • George Young likes a smoke , must run in the family

  • Who did the casting for this film clip or are they all Harry and George's relatives?

  • just heard this song because I read a guy saying that Radiohead borrowed some of its elements to one of their tunes, "The trickster", which I do love.

sounds a little similar, but it's far from being a rip-off. besides, I liked this song.

  • @caz4777 who?

  • Was sagt er? Kennt jemand?

  • George looks like Angus will when he grows up....

  • True Classic. Love the song and love the clip. The Captain is a star, and I wish I had the big bawdy wench's phone number that he was dancing with!! ROF

  • I guess 2 people was in somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean in the year 1912.

  • Vanda & Young; WHAT a team!

  • This is really so innovating, even in 1978. Thank you nzoz!!!! Really a clip to never forget! What a great other way from the Titannic 1912 ;-)

  • am i the only 15 year old watching this..and loving it!?

  • @cutiecookie23 You sure ain't

  • As a matter of interest, Radio Netherlands did an interview with Harry Vanda some four years ago, at his Flashpoint Studios, recalling his early days in Australia. This can be seen and heard online.

See: Anonymous émigré became pop star. Radio Netherlands Worldwide.

  • Brilliant - we don't do near enough to honour these two guys. Genius, pure and simple!

  • @TheGroovyRecordStore You might like to buy a copy of "Vanda and Young: Inside Australia's Hit Factory" written by John Tait, and published by the University of N.S.W. press.

  • Totally tubular to the max!

    xoxo

    The Clarences

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this haunting song.....

  • I wonder if the writers of 'Holding Out for a Hero' listened to this track?

  • @BadGirlOfAutism certainly not before this song was released. The song you mentioned was released seven years after this song was a hit.

  • @nzoz1978 Derpderp, I recommend reading it a little better.

@BadGirlOfAutism is suggesting the writers of "Holding Out for Crappy Bollocks" listened to this track, as say, a muse for writing that song, not the other way around, which you've presumed it to read.

  • @nzoz1978 I 'tink that's the point they were making - plagiarism 'tis the word. Hail the great Vanda Young!!

  • @BadGirlOfAutism is that from the Streets of Fire soundtrack? Does sound similar doesn't it?

  • This is really sad. Beautiful. Noone was talking about the Titanic really in 78 (music, movies) Or were they? Anyway, great. I love it :)

  • Miles Morgan Travel (UK) are currently taking bookings for the 100th Anniversary Titanic Memorial Cruise, leaving Southampton on the 8th of April 2012, and will follow the RMS Titanic's orginal itinerary, arriving at the Titanic site April 14/15 where a memorial service will be held, before continuing on to Halifax, Nova Scotia, then New York.

Presumably if they hit an iceberg, as did the original Titanic, there will be no extra charge.

  • @caz4777 Just so you know, the ship hitting the iceburg is extra, you know having to pay for the band, theyre not cheap anymore.

  • @ozphil It seems that there's more than one memorial cruise being planned to mark the event. Perhaps they will run into each other

  • @caz4777 Would be a great cruise to send mother-in-laws on :-)

  • @admanhawks Now there's a thought!

  • AWESOME STUFF THANKS FOR SHARING!

Awesome Band and they don't make them like this anymore!

Best time in anyones life was to be alive in the 80's and dancing the night away to awesome music like this in the clubs. Kids today don't know what they missed out on!

  • Vander & Young. The piano/organ is haunting. And the band played.......shivers down my spine.

  • Fantastic flash'n'the pan song. hard to understand hook though. a newly discoved song... discoved on 1/5/2010.

  • What a song* This is the song...FLASH and the Pan ;) Aussie/New Zeeland : should being there*

  • great song

  • Too bad file cannot be shared.

  • I love this song. My mum has this on a Cassette. I transfered it onto MP3 and I cant stop playing it.

  • brilliant quality of the video. how did you get this? salute to albert records!

  • Among Dead Men is one of the best Movies I´ve ever seen. Was so lucky to find it in full lenght and for FREE: quickfreemovie (dot) com

  • "This is a song on pirates", said an announcer of Radio Australia in a programme for Japanese listeners in short wave, over thirty years ago. One or two years later, I bought a copy of their monumental LP and came to know that this song tells about the wreck of the Titanic. "But.....where are the pirates?" The question had remained unanswered for thirty years. And finally...I have just found the pirates here!! Thank you very much for the post. This is one of my best 5 songs in English.

  • Just Brilliant !

  • Ex Easybeats.......What a song..wow!

  • Theme in the back ground is by richard harris crappy song, came out the same year...

  • Tell more than Cameron's movie

  • Great stuff!

  • cake must have been majorly influenced by these guys. They sound a lot alike

  • cake? wtf, what song?

  • 'Holding out for a Hero' by Bonnie Tyler always reminded me of this track. Very similar.

  • After loving this song for 31 years I'm just watching this video for the 1st time !?!?!

  • Man made Global Warmin is a HOAX ..... wake up!

  • Should we think nowadays about the climate on Earth and the smelting ice on the North Pole? And nowadays, it is not a ship ;-))) What a great video from Flash and the Pan!!! Always have liked the music, but clips as these are incredible!

  • Everything you wanted to know about Fog and Ice but were afraid to ask !

  • Good video. Never know this track from F. a/t P. Thanks for posting.

  • What a Winner!!! Thanks to all concerned But, it's terrible! I cannot think of, not Harry Van Der's "name",but the other fellow's name- I've got a mental blank -he's "AC/DC's" Lead Guitarist's, Angus Young's brother( I think....) & looks a bit like, you know,.........Help!!

  • harry vanda and george young

  • @ufothe3

Harry Vanda and George Young. One Dutch Australian, the other Scottish Australia. Both in 60s band The Easybeats before this sort of thing and production.

  • the young brothers lived in Burwood behinde the copshop

  • I used to work for Donny Sutherlands brother.

  • I thought Donnie's brother died at age 14, which inspired Donnie to take up horse racing (his brother being a horse racer).... I know Donnie (not bragging), I'll ask him if he has another bro...

  • hi nzoz, why did you remove "welcome to the universe" from YouTube, I've just put it among my favorites, such a great vid or maybe it wasn't you? lol from Poland

  • It's still up there... the one you added was a version i was not happy with... go back to nzoz1980 and you'll see the video is still there...

  • Thanks, I've just found it :). Bought two records "Ayla - the best of F&the P and Flash & the Pan, now I can listen to my beloved "Atlantis Calling" and many other brilliant tracks. lol

  • Could you ask Donnie why he chose "Love's Theme" by Barry White as the theme for his show "Sound Unlimited"? Cheers!

  • ...and what's more, where the HECK would we be without You Tube, where we can totally wallow in our obscure favourite music?!

  • I will add, I have such a soft spot for what Vanda and Young and Ian "Molly" Meldrum et al did for music both Australian and overseas in the 70s, via Countdown, Sounds Unlimited etc and the profound influence it all had on me. Here I was in isolated Western Australia (I live in Fremantle where Bon Scott grew up and is buried), where so much genius is born... and then leaves for bigger things i/s and o/s. Yesterday Bon Scott, today Tim Minchen and Eskimo Joe...

  • Does this ever remind me of watching 'Sounds Unlimited' on Saturday mornings, when I was about 12!

  • Hey St. Peter!

    Oh wait that's another song.

  • Were these Guys from Sydney or Melbourne?

  • Sydney... a suburb away from where I live.

  • which suburb :O

  • Burwood

  • yer sydney i meet one of them a few years ago

  • Lucky you! My best friend's mother has known Harry Vanda for about 40 odd years. Nice to know that rock legends can still maintain normality in our local areas.

  • man I was so young when I first heard this!

I was in Arizona dating the lovely Patty Carlisle at the time!

  • A tribute to the survivors of the 1912 sinking of the Titantic. The last living survivor passed away last month aged 101 years old.

  • Never saw this before.Just remembered it from when I was a kid in the 70's on an LP record called Midnight Hustle. On the album it was called And the Band Played On. I never bothered reading the write up here, but was amazed how the lead guy reminded me of Angus Young. I couldn't believe it when I finished watching the video and read the comments. AC/DC are my favourite band !! No wonder he reminded me of Angus !!

Now I understand the idea of the song. You don't when you're 8 years old.

  • Well better late than never...

A great group with many unique lyrics and a very different approach to make muzic/songs..

    Have anyone seen them live?

I've seen these videos, but I don't think they've ever performed live???

  • No not Angus, but George Young his older brother, who played rhythm guitar in the Easybeats! The tall blond guy is Harry Vanda!

  • No, I know it's not Angus ! That's not what I was getting at.He just reminded me so much of him.And me being such an AC/DC fan immediately saw that similairity between the two.The reason for the similairity became clear once I read the comments- because it is his brother.

  • I'm sorry, I guess I misunderstood what you meant. They do look a lot alike!

  • Watch the clip `Hey St Peter` half way thru it George partly dresses like Angus with an AC/DC shirt on.... looks heaps like him in the early days. Im a HUGE AC/DC fan also : )

  • great clip, thanks for sharing.

  • what a song and what a clip! Amazing.....

Flash and the Pan are my friends!

  • wow this brings back memories of Blue light Disco's when i was 15

  • U made a spelling error in Malcolm's name u forgot the second "l"

  • thank you

  • Flash and The Pan = george Vander & Harry Young... Both EX EASYBEATS and Harry Young IS the ELDEST of the YOUNG Brothers with ACDC.... And wrote most of Australias early songs
