Yes ,same old story I'm afraid, pick on the joe public tax payer, for everything as we are the easy target, leave the rich to get richer, poor to get poorer and keep taxing us and fining us for every little thing till we are on our knees begging for mercy, thanks please make me poplular and I will waste lots of your cash on everything, Tony Blair and Gordan Brown.

was touched by the pics in this video ,the homeless person holding/hugging the other homeless person, and the person stroking the dog when perhaps the homeless person could do with a bit of attention lets hope they got some gr8 lyrics/song and band
109 likes, 0 dislikes!!! I don't think I've ever seen such a ratio! The Housemartins are super-loved because they were super-good. Their music is not only catchy and appealing but also engaging and relevant on a social level. On a final note, I applaud them for their lack of trendiness and glamour. They teach today's music puppets and bimbos that those things are not needed, provided that a band is great and writes excellent music.
If governments did what they were supposed to, there wouldn't be any need for charities. Yet try telling that to a chugger, and they look at you like you're the anti christ. I tell them to do themselves a favour, delete Leona Lewis or whatever from their ipod and download this, and just LISTEN
This evening I walked home through Dublin city center. I saw teenage girls smoking pushing prams, fat/obese mothers with soon to be fat/obese children. When I arrived home and I watched this video even though I haven't listened to the song in years. Looks like something brought it to my mind!
The song is also on their first album but this version is better! IMHO. This seems more relevant today than it did back in the 80's - what a sad state of affairs, brings tears to my eyes!
This was the Housemartins response to Live Aid and all that went with it...in the last twenty years the rich have got richer and Africa has got poorer.....
..so go and f*ck yourself Bob Geldof, for your ego driven emotional blackmail, the only way to get rid of poverty and hunger is for all of us to kick out the parasites that run our countries, that means political activity not inertia for all

Thanks for posting, these guys were a great band with amazing sharp, crisp, clean vocals. I have never heard this version. I thought the piano version was tight!

First heard this on John Peel's show back in 1985 I think. Their best song? Right up there with 'Think For A Minute' and 'Build'.

A great antidote to the big fat wedding that we had to endure today.

Seems horribly apt today. Cameron was clearly too busy idolising Gripper Stebson back in '85 to pay any attention to the lyrics of this one.

@only1McBoyd When it was written? Because it wasn't released on London 0 Hull 4 until Oct '86, over a year after Live Aid.
