awesome. you can get so much across without screaming, convulsing, and adding endless mannerisms. she puts so much into the song while forcing nothing. bravo, a fantastic performance.
Although I was born in the 70's my parents were jazz people. I remember hearing Shirley Horn as a kid. Her voice - there is nothing like it and she was just as talented a pianist. This guy is great too. Thanks for posting this clip.
The piano player with Shirley is George Mesterhazy who played with/for Shirley the last years in which she performed live. George can be heard with Shirley on her CDs, "But Beautiful, The Best of Shirley Horn" and May the Music Never End, both on Verve. I believe on May The Music Never End, George plays both piano and guitar or perhaps just guitar. George can also be heard on vocalist Rebecca Parris' CDs, "My Foolish Heart" and "Spring."
Toward the end, Shirley had started to play again by using her prosthesis; I told Shirley that no one could accompany her on piano more effectively and efficiently than herself, which Shirley agreed with me in one of our many conversations during this time. George Mesterhazy's banal accompaniment sucks, the total Horn sound is Shirley, Steve and Charles. Shirley and Charles RIP LOL
Fantastic. Oh how I love this lady. She is a one off. She makes the lyrics paint pictures in your mind and her piano playing just blow me away. I missed seeing her live by one day in Singapore and I will always regret that so much. God bless you Shirley and god bless you Taddypoe fo uploading thi video. x

Again, we can witness the genius and creativity of a vocalist who knows the music of any song that she performs. God Bless Shirley. She is missed by many people who like the refinement of music.
this is the true religion.

What a trooper she was. The uninitiated haven't a clue how much more to her there was than is seen in this clip. I miss my baby.
