Fire alone will not make thermite react. (speculating) A person sits and waits, sees where the damage is at, then can determine where to start the process of weakening and then demoing the building.

@slauertura77 no, cutting the beams straight across is alot shorter cut. cutting beams on a 45 makes sense when the beams are supporting the building because it helps to move them out of the way. They SLIDE off each other so to speak. once the beams are just standing on their own it's faster to cut straight across. if you cut a 2x4 straight across it's a 3 1/2 inch cut. If you cut a 2x4 at a 45 it's going to be roughly a 4 3/4 inch cut. the quickest way to cross a road is straight across.

and steel is not iron oxide. Plus, the heat of kerosene (jet fuel), and office furniture, computers etc... only reach temperatures of 600º+. The steel beams actually redistribute the heat throughout the rest of the steel. Think metal spoon in boiling soup. The end of the spoon gets hot too. And lead shot at a steel plate would flatten like a pancake. Your logic is ridiculous.

I was an aircraft fire fighter with the navy and any aircraft engineer knows the amount of magnesium, aluminum and steel in an aircraft are just right to make thermite. The problem is when the magnesium ignites at 2000 degrees it burns at 5600 degrees melting the steel and aluminum into itself forming thermite. In the navy you must jettison aircraft or it melts through the steel ship.

@ckilr01 yea? im studying x-ray crystallography. i am proficient in chemistry and physics. lets review thermite. aluminum powder and iron oxide (Fe2 O3). straight iron does not work in thermite. what your saying is impossible. the iron would have to oxidize instantly into rust, be pulverized into powder, then mix with the aluminum (also needs to be powdered) in large enough quantities to react, and which would have to be ignited by magnesium thats also powdered, or in large strips. furthermore..

The Kader Toy Factory fire, which occurred on May 10, 1993. Buildings 1, 2, and 3 all collapsed as a result of that fire (see Kader Toy FactoryFire).
