  • I have never heard such crap in all my 30yrs has a professional sax player

this video should be pulled.for all our sakes.

  • oh god hes an idiot and his tone is horrible. and i was looking how to play an octave higher. this isnt advanced

  • Advanced? Wow, you mean beginners???...

  • Leho- seher!

  • wow. worst. sax. player. ever.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks for that advanced lesson on how to press keys

  • you dont need to hold down all 3 of the top keys to play the f natural.

  • It's a flute! He's not playing at all, it's a flute thats been dubbed over this video!

  • Brian Medeiros, why would you pretend to be an expert on this??

Also, how is this "advanced exercises"?? It's merely showing where the buttons are for playing up to the top range of the fingered notes of the saxophone. You pretty much just showed us what any basic fingering chart would, only with a horrible sound included.

  • does reed number affects the tone? and what reed number do you recommend to reach the highest note f#?

  • @mattgershomt Its not really about which reed you use. its about using the reed you are most comfortable with. there is no set number to note comparison; the number only deals with the thickness of the reed and the strength of your embouchure. I prefer a 3 myself, but it all depends on you. so mix it up and find out what works for you.

  • @TheJesusfreak012 actually, the number has NOTHING to do with the THICKNESS. All reeds are pretty much the same thickness. It's all about the STRENGTH, which has more to do with the grain. The biggest factor influencing reed choice is actually your mouthpiece. The wider the tip opening, the more difficult it will be to play with stronger reeds, especially if you're trying to play quietly. The number has ABSOLUTELY NOT

  • I never could imagine have such a sound on a saxophon ! maybe this is not a saxophon ?

  • I watched this out of curiosity, expecting something on altissimo, and I want my minute back! Side keys? Dude, they are called palm keys. Learn your craft before referring to yourself as an expert.

Oh, how I hope that this guy doesn't actually do any teaching. If so, I pity those kids.

  • @saxygreen Does it really matter? Palm keys side keys whatever, at least hes getting the point across.

  • Has anyone ever gained anything from an 'Expert Village' video?

    I think not.

    They are rubbish.

    Who makes them, and why?

  • You should be loose on the upper notes to produce a warm natural sound not the pinched sound you hear on this video.

  • @larrysax64 All I can think is that he really means a firm embouchure. The muscles of the face need to be firm to support the sound and air right? making a warm beautiful tone really comes from the shape of the oral cavity inside your mouth. The word "tight" i think implies biting on the reed to a student, but I also think the word "loose" implies not having enough support...at least to a student who doesn't understand yet. It's all about word choice as a teacher. =)

  • This is a terrible video. I can't believe he got paid to do this.

If you're going to pay someone, find a real expert. Most of them need the money, anyway.

  • I don't think he really grasps altissimo. We wanna know how to hit the notes aren't available to you on the fuckin' keys genius.

  • My sax doesn't have an F# but I can still hit F# :] lol

  • ahhhhhhh terrible tone

  • That's false... You keep the embouchure loose and raise the soft palate.

  • Hahaha... you look "higher" than any note you could play on your sax.

  • It's more advanced than I am!

  • haters

  • thats not advanced.... thats shit

  • you know its not expert when a tag says brass instrument when its a woodwind

  • Is this an advanced lesson???????? I don't thing it is....

  • They are actually called palm keys. Your right hand plays SIDE keys not left.

  • @Meeshdongles yeah he's a retard

  • i dont even PLAY saxophone, (yet) and i HAVE to admit this guys tone is HORRIBLE!

  • I have no f# key and you said I could get it installed. Where could I do this? I'm kind of desperate.

  • The upper "side keys" are usually called PALM KEYS.

  • this guy sux at playing high notes

  • listen you muppet !!! You dont strangle the mouthpiece just because you are playing a higher note...relaxed and firm to keep the right pitch and make the note sound full and clear...

I hope you havent been paid for this video ??? I am changing jobs !! terrible .....

  • thanks for not knowing the horn bro --- just spew terrible advice all over the internet --- and just because its expervillage people are going to believe you

  • you have a very nice sound, it sounds almost as good as my plastic baby toys

  • NEVER use a tight embouchure. this guy sucks asshole

  • If you tighten your embochure you will play sharp the goal is to play the the horn as much as possible with as little change im embochure as possible and using your jaw to correct pitch without changing ton color....

  • Tanx

  • haha why does this guy remind me of marty mcfly lmao and he looks like hes been sweating ew

  • LAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWLAWL. I doubt this dude has been taking lessons himself for more than a month. watch his video on how to swing lawl.

  • A fingering chart does a much better job than this video. You can't even see which buttons he's pressing.

  • lol, 0:36 sounds like one of those air horns. This guy is a hack.

  • Beginners: Please listen to NOTHING this man says in ANY video. He is completely unqualified, and in many of his videos, he is absolutely WRONG. He also is a bad saxophone player, and you do NOT want to pick up his bad technique. Please do not listen to Brian Medeiros.

  • This video series shows you how the average joe views musicians and music educators. Anyone can teach, right? Obviously, the producers of this video think so. It is at best "misinformation" , and at worst teaching the "wrong" way to do things. As a professional saxophonist and educator, I assign my students to review your series in our pedagogy class, as examples of how NOT to teach. Maybe expert village has a medical series teaching people how to remove their own appendices also.

  • @drbluenote do you know a good video that shows easier fingerings for high notes and altissimo?

  • I don't know of a video, but can recommend a couple of books: "High Tones for Saxophone" by Eugene Rousseau. Some great exercises and fingerings charts for sop, alto, ten, and bari. Also Don Sinta "voicing: an approach to the saxophone's third register." In my opinion, these two books are the best to hep students as they have many voicing exercises in addition to altissimo fingerings. Good Luck!

  • @drbluenote

check my video out on altissimo. its probably more useful than this guy. my vid should be on the sidebar.

  • i feel sorry for this dumshit

  • lets make a petition to remove all expert village sax teaching on youtube. Fuck, how iit sucks

  • @pedrocortereal Don't forget all of the clarinet videos too the bald guy called a bass clarinet a contrabass clarinet. What an idiot.

  • ICING ON THE CAKE???!!!!! Wow! umm... a tight embouchure will make it squeak... I can't wait till he teaches altissimo.

  • He's the one who is high, not the notes

  • What a horrid video! Please stop!

  • at first he looked like Daniel Radcliffe

  • haha yea

  • I'm 23 (been playing for 13 years) and I haven't even started my Masters in Music Education yet and I can teach (and play) better than this guy. Side keys? Really? I thought those were called Palm Keys. Don't confuse young players trying to learn.

  • ugh a tight grip on the mouthpiece will make it sound super sharp

  • Comment removed

  • i wonder how i can become an expert. i think i can do a bit better than this guy. i'm not hatin' on him tho. it takes courage to put yourself out there and put your credibility on the line.

check out my youtube channel instead, it might be more helpful.

  • ? umm... high? F? CAN SOMEONE SEND ME A MESSAGE GIVING ME A SLIGHT CRASH COURSE ON ALTISSIMO LOL... i goT fingeringS i juST have no clue aBouT The embouchure anD all DaT

  • lol, i like how he added "with my side keys" at the end

  • Please .... NO ONE LISTEN to this guy. Worst "expert" ever

  • didnt think this video was half as bad as the triplets one lol

  • @MrLeoparker i know right....expert village sucks ass, they do not know what they are talking about..in any of their videos.

  • JEEZ! Way to be miles sharp!!! And you so don't need a tight embouchure. i can play an altissimo with the embouchure of a G in staff. And!!!! A tighter embouchure means your more prone to squeaking! Dumb ass.....i swear

  • WRONG! You don't necessarily tighten your embouchure to play higher notes... It's all in throat positions... And this isn't even high notes. It's just bullshit. What a tard.

  • F# was about 1/2 step sharp man.

  • man you cant get more sharp without going to the next note i listened to this over and over tuner in hand

  • See the wonderful sound that draws Isael Melo in his video the guy plays too.

  • veja o saxofonista "Isael Melo" e ouça o bela som que ele tira!!

  • you gotta be nice and tight with your embouchure so you don't squeak...ha

  • wow, those high notes are sky high sharp!

  • This guy.... needs to be stabbed.

  • SHARPPP

  • What about F1, biz, R1? :) (High G I believe)

  • you should actually stay loose when you go up high. its funny, he talks about tightening so not to squeak and then squeaks on all his high notes.

expert village, what a bunch of idiots

  • @jmk170393 Being as I've studied the sax ... you actually can't say whether to stay tight or loose .. everyone is different ...

  • Wow! What an idiot! Expert Village is the WORST!

  • Lmao - I wonder what pieces he can play...

  • it's hard not to hate on something like this being posted. I'd love to see an altissimo lesson..."that's about as high as I'm gonna go today"

  • ok people we've all realised that expert people videos on saxophone (among other things muwahahah) SUCKKKK

So instead of posting stupid comments simple flag them as inapropriate: Violent content XDDDDD

  • What the %$#%# I can't believe how weak a player this "EXPERT" is. Please, if you are interested in playing the saxophone...find a teacher who knows what they are doing.

  • wow! that was awesome! hahahah lmao. that was some bullsh**! this guy sounds like its the first time he has picked up a sax!

  • sounds like a fucking flute

  • obviously you aren';t a flute player.

  • wow. you shouldnt be allowed to teach the saxophone.

  • HA goooood one

  • eyebrows

  • ''That's the highest I'm going to go today''. You bet! LOLOL. That's funny as hell.

  • "thats nice and high" hahaha!

don't tighten your embrochure. higher pitches are procured with a tighter larynx, which is a muscle in your throat. the biggest reason for squeaking is biting TOO HARD on your mouthpiece, so try to stay away from that!

Instead, try practicing going from your lowest D to your palm D (which he so graciously showed us how to finger) without moving your mouth at all. eventually you can extend your range past the palm F# using "altissimo fingerings", and this can help!

  • Agreed. When I practiced high notes with my instructor he gave me a useful practice method: try to sing the note. Take the sax out of your mouth and just try to make the tone with your voice. I was very shy at first because of course you sound ridiculous going "HEEEE," but once you apply it playing the actual note it helps enormously. Like night and day. Just concentrate on getting that sound to emanate from your throat like gam said.

I've watched 6 of these videos. This guy is a total joke.

  • google "Dr. Steve Brule"

  • Expert village is a joke, there are high school students who know better than this

  • Indeed. How can he call that "Advanced practice techniques" ? But that was funny though lol.

  • MY firend you deffinetly do not want a tight aobniture you see you were extreamly out of toon Please try to play better

  • im gonna go ahead and call it... this guy kinda sucks

  • Kinda? lol

    He is a joke!!! hahaha

  • well yeah, i just didnt wanna be mean hahah xD

  • nice...... hey what kind of alto is that?

it has the antique brass look but it has the hi F# so it cant be a vintage. what brand is it?

  • try attissimo smart ass

  • hahahahaa I thought the same shit!

  • I wouldnt call that advanced, good teaching for beginers though

  • Wow, tight embachure? Really? Jesus

  • What an idiot. He doesn't deserve a Mark VII, even if it is in that bad of condition. Damn Nazi's.

  • Expert Village....please find some experts.

  • The scary thing is that this guy might actually have students.

  • wow I could play those notes easily without lessons. You dont deserve that horn

  • bad advice...

everyone I've talked to said that a solid (slightly loose) embechure should stay constant throughout the horn.

  • I disagree... Embrouchure should change very little as you reach higher tones on the sax. Instead, you should work at increasing your air speed and arching your tongue as you move into the altissimmo register

  • I agree with you arko. THE GUY IN THIS VIDEO IS PATHETIC.

  • wat do u mean about arcing ur tounge, i try, but i cant get the c, or any other altissimmo note except g, and everyone says thats the hardest!!! I DONT GET IT!!!!

  • wow thats pathetic

  • Yeah I know right?

  • uhh....... im 12 and i can play those notes VERY easily!

  • This is a rubbish film.

How on earth is a learner meant to see what is happening?

Are all 'Expert Village' videos this poor and presented by such incompetant demonstrators?

  • Yes they are. :D
