The one great thing about this movie is the soundtrack. Even in the scene where the boys are singing the Lord's prayer, I believe that is actually the Beach Boys voices. And throughout the movie, you hear the actual voices. Those voices are very distinctive blended together to create the sound of the Beach Boys. You can't fake it and sound that realistic.
@Hmranger Yes, all the music/vocals are the real Beach Boys. That is one thing they talked about when this film was being promoted, how they used all their songs. Also during scenes in which Brian Wilson is demoing "I Get Around" and "In My Room," the real Brian Wilson contributes the vocal, recorded specifically for this movie. Jeffrey Foskett, who is a member of Brian's touring band, provides the high notes during the "In My Room" demo.
Murry had to be the biggest piece of shit on the earth. What a fucking ass hole. He comes home to his sons writing beautiful music and he explodes on them. Seriously, his own father must have been seriously fucked up and touched Murry when he was very young. Poor Brian. No wonder he was so fucked up within his life. He felt very un-excepted because his father treated him like shit ....
Yes, Murry's father was supposedly very abusive. Murry's family was very poor. They came to California from Kansas when he was a very young child in the early 1920's, and they lived in a tent on the beach.
surprising that murray let them go to the first record co sessions alone being a total control freak. probably thought they wouldn't get anywhere like him. once they did, he was there every time.
Once again, Mike Love proves the weapon of destiny as he begins to lead The Boys to fame through his own wit and the zeal of a natural leader. Were it not for Mike Love and his baby-mama they would've went nowhere.
Mike Love had to write this movie himself. They make him into "the diplomatic one" and Brian into a loon. I mean there's dramatic license and then there's just super-imposed drama. this is the latter.
and if you ask me Mike L-O-V-E had more to do with Brian cracking than L-S-D
They really do gloss over Smile, don't they? It didn't really put across the idea the Brian wanted to stop playing music when they killed his LP. Oh well. The early scenes are well done.
@dmcguire70 And Mike's buddy, John Stamos, produced it.. Mike's role is over-inflated in this movie. But with that said, he is a founding member of the band and was instrumental in their success.
@crake01 He can't lip-synch worth a damn, though. Then again neither can the rest of them. The Lord's Prayer scene in this looks like it was dubbed from Korean or something.

"You write one or two songs like this and then you can make whatever music you want!"
Yeah, about that...
I'm pretty sure it took a TINY bit more than "one or two" songs before albums like Pet Sounds finally came along.
