  • This scene is mind-nibbling. Great movie!

  • Have never seen Silent Hill but I've heard it nowhere near matches up to Jacob's Ladder. I've done a video called 'Writhe' on my channel which includes a jacob's Ladderesque shaking head. Have a wee look!

  • anyone not moved by the last scene in Jacobs Ladder where his son comes to guide him must have a swinging brick for a heart

  • jacobs scene in that movie is more intense.

  • Silent Hill 3's entire subway level is ripped from this movie. Mind you, I still love the game, because Heather is one of the most kickass game heroines ever, but Jacob's Ladder was there first.

  • that movie inspired silent hill

    ahh good movie

  • Thank you so much for making this kick ass movie! Without it, there wouldnt be Silent Hill<3

  • Silent Hill 5 is great in my opinion. I have played the whole game and it is sooooo great!!! It doesnt feel like Saw I think. The SH Atmosphere is in that game and I have played ALL SH games

  • i think thy fail on silent hill 5. it looks more like the movie SAW

i prefer the old 4 first silent hill games

    saludos desde Perú

  • lol over done much when i was in the hospital i saw half as many hands

  • @NeoKiryu Well, The Thing did.

  • silent hill v was made by a different development team, that's why. with the exception of akira, the dudes who made silent hill 1-4 moved on by the time origins and homecoming came long.

  • i was going to see but it was for the vhs

  • Ther are barely any good movies in these modern times, any remake will mess a good movie up...

  • Ever since I was a small kid I loved Jacobs Ladder. I love SIlent Hill too.

  • I must see that movie

  • yeah.. you must.. it is awsome.. just saw it an hour ago for the first time.. it is an amazing horror movie.. prpably the best i have seen in a long time.. :)

  • cool video

did anyone else notice in Silent Hill 3, in the alternate bulding world there is a The Changeling reference? the wheelchair viewed with the yellowish dim light glowing on it.

it just shows the original team of Silent Hill used alot of classic horror story inspiration to make their game. Silent Hill 5 wasnt exactly up to par with the other games but its still a decent game i guess.

it just forgot the horror-survival theme of the series, and had more action and guns etc.

  • if they do a remake this movie...they are goin to kill it :S

  • THE DIRECTOR OF THIS MOVIE should direct silent hill!!!!

    than the stupid christopher gans!

  • You know what? I agree.

Alas, they are planning a remake of this movie, due for release in 2010. :/

  • WATTTT REMAKES? u know hollywoods stupid of remakes

    all remakes are friggin badddd!!!

  • well hopefully it'll stay stuck in development hell were it belongs...

  • yo stfu

  • haha stop talking crap y just have to say two things very real SICK GAME AND SICKEST MOVIE and thats all

  • Cheryl is the main character in SH3, aka Heather. At the very end, she reveals her true name.

  • no dumb ass.

and limp you got your silent hills all mixed up dude.

  • lmfao..soooooorrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy

  • they made a movie of silent hill 5!!????

  • they made a game of jacobs ladder

  • @pyramidheadthingy No. It's the game that steal idea from the movie Jacob's Ladder. For your information, there is also a Hong Kong movie "The Eye" that used the same effects. Silent Hill Homecoming is no good.

  • @gameskyjumper Silent Hill 5 is a good game on its own right and you're just a whiny fanboy, a Silent Hillbilly as I like to call obsessive SH fanboys like you

  • @pyramidheadthingy

    And Stephen King Novels!

  • wow....i MUST see this movie

  • creepyest movie ever.

  • sure the scene has been inspired by movie but not at all, in the movie he saw people that he didn't have any relation in silent hill homecoming in the rooms alex watch the other 3 child killed by their parents and when he wacth the 206 (his room in sanitarium) the door is locked because his father has not done the sacrifice (2:06 is also the hour of all sh5 clockz)

  • all of silent hill are the same helping alessa right?

  • wow, i always thought they got that scene from hostel. but i think the scene with the saw was taken right from hostel part 2

  • Jacob's Ladder is a lot like the Silent Hill games in general, with the weirdness and movements. I think that scene from that movie is one of the creepiest in movie history.

  • Obviously Silent Hill has been heavily influenced by some classic horror movies and books but I find it sad that a lot of SH fans dont know or just havent read/watched the original source material.

    Its all still good.

    Cheers for the comparison vid!!

  • hey guys i seen that movie jacobs ladder a couple of times but i still dont get watz goin on cud some one please fill me in thnx

  • you've got the same underground moment in jacob's ladder and silent hill 3.

love jacob ladder and silent hill!!!!!!!!

  • Lol!!!! So it`s true that the new STUPID devs stole scenes from Jacob`s ladder! Team Silent was taking IDEAS from Jacob`s ladder NOT stealing their scenes like this one. When will we see Team Silnt again? Not a chance right?

  • what is jacobs lader?

  • its an old horror movie its hard to understan but still really creepy u mite wanna watch it

  • anyone notice in silent hill he was talking about his squad and it just so happens in the beginning of jacobs ladder he with his squad in vietnam

  • i did

  • i remember i checked out jacobs ladder cuz i heard it was SO much like silent hill. or silent hill was like jacobs ladder actually. so i watched it. it was okay. im sure if i saw the movie before playing silent hill i would have been more tripped out. but yeah silent hill 5 opening is just like this scene ( = i dont think its ripping them off. more like paying tribute

  • I agree with you. It's definately not a ripoff, but a very respectful case of paying tribute; and hey - if it makes more people watch Jacob's Ladder, then kudos to the Silent Hill team.

  • i'm sorry but just because there are multiple spinning wheels in jacob's ladder ... doesn't mean silent hill ripped them off ... my bike's wheels spin too when i drop it down .. does that mean i'm ripping jacob's ladder off? lmao .. now i know jacobs ladder was a big inspiration to the silent hill serie, but to be completely honest i see more differences than anything =] <333

  • They didn't rip it off, but Silent Hill was influenced by Jacob's Ladder. A lot. Some parts are actually directly connected to the movie.

  • dear God xD

  • 1:48... Is that JAMES?!

  • dude, that movie rocked. you fail.

  • no, it was boring. i understood it, & got it, but it was still boring. boring, boring, boring, boring, boring. when i watched it, i hadn't seen a film that boring since Chasing Amy. good thing SH didn't take that much from this shit otherwise it would've been a boring game too

with that said, Tim Robbins is a fucking brilliant actor but every actor makes their share of shit films

  • Well, I disagree with you, but to each his own. I'm curious though; could you tell me about one psychological horror movie that you *didn't* find boring? Or is it that you don't like psychological horror movies at all?

  • i love psychological movies, but haven't seen so many of them under the horror genre. psychological horror games are my favorites though like The Suffering 1 & 2, Silent Hill series, & Manhunt. back to movies though, i also thought 2 of the most mentioned under that genre, The Sixth Sense (the ending was great though) & The Others were boring. i like The Shining, Frailty, Se7en, the Hannibal series, A Tale of 2 Sisters, Sympathy For Lady Vengeance, Oldboy, Kairo, & probably a lot more Asian ones

  • Thanks for your reply. It made me understand your earlier comment much better. Personally, I love all of the movies you just mentioned, except Sympathy for Lady Vengeance - which I haven't seen yet. I'm definately gonna check it out now, though. Thanks for the tip.

  • lol no problem man. it's good but kindof hard to follow at certain parts so pay close attention xD

& also i admit i could've been more mature & wrote 'IN MY OPINION' on the first comment i wrote, just i really expected alot more before i watched Jacob's Ladder. like, i didn't really see the point in it, & what it proved. but yeah nice talking to you man, take care

  • its not sympathy for lady vengence its sympathy for mr vengence and its just lady vengence they both are really good movies so is old boy some of the masters of horror are also really good i personally think that black xmas the old one was a really scarey movie u also mite wanna check out stephen kings nite flier i thought was pretty good too

  • The atmospheric concepts for the Silent Hill series were heavily influenced by those of Jacob's Ladder. Any SH fan would do well do watch Jacob's Ladder. (I agree with EvieFace's statement there). Play SHs 1, 2, 3, and 5, and then watch Jacob's Ladder, and you will see it very very clearly.

  • LOL, that movie pwns SH5.

  • actually the movie was pretty tedious. like long and boring, one of those movies you only really watch once. but it is very scary and artistic. any silent hill fan would love this movie. the storyline is ironically quite similar to silent hill 5. almost too ironic. kind of makes me wonder about the game developers.

but jacobs ladder is a great movie. i would def recommend watching it at least once.

  • Ya, my friend watched it and told me about the same thing. I'll probably try watching it sometime.

For what I can see in the intro, or whichever part of the movie this is, I liked it.

  • we make game based off of other references like power rangers and star wars, this isn't that much different.

  • note to self, watch jacobs ladder some time LMAO- although i did here that silent hill was inspired by it, that and steven kings the mist

  • hehe awesome, but you didn't show the whole homecoming scene. oh well. as for the comments. it's true that silent hill was inspired by jacobs latter, but the inspiration was so fundamental, silent hill became it's own complete style. heck, the series inspired a movie that wasn't at all like jacobs latter. as for homecoming 'ripping off' jacobs latter, what a stupid thing to say. they don't even need to. obviously it's a nod to the original inspiration. a very clever one at that to. ;)

  • sick

  • the movie

  • is this out?

  • 1:06 valtiel?

  • or just a torso of a man.

  • That the frist level of the game right?

  • To add to my earlier statement, it is common knowledge that Silent Hill was influenced by Jacob's Ladder. The whole concept of "fast-head" motion, used throughout the Silent Hill series, was invented by this film. I don't think the poster meant this video to be offensive, I think he was just drawing similarites between the movie and the new game--showing that the new game designers are taking the original influences into consideration. If you are a Silent Hill fan you know about Jacob's Ladder.

  • I think the problem is that is basically the same sequence. The other SH were a bit different from Jacob's Ladder, this is too similar.

  • It's not wholly unprecedented. The subway station in SH3 has some parts that are very similar to Jacob's Ladder; and some references directly to ti.

  • That movie is great, however, from what I've seen of the new Silent Hill there isn't much originality. The nurses are the same as in the movie (which isn't nessesarily a problem becuase they look amazing) and the bugs from the film are present as well. It's too early to judge but I'm not sure if this is going to be a good as the others. Combat look better though.

  • you´re right!!

  • Yeah, your not the first one to notice the similarities. the whole series was inspired by that movie. Wikipedia stated this a good 5 years ago.

  • Ummmmmm...... o wow. Besides being taken through a darkhallway on stretcher.... i saw nothing that makes them the same. I cant wait for that game. I just hope it doesnt get too action packed like a certain game. (Resident Evil anyone???)

  • i just hope they don't imitate Jacob's Ladder end... that'd be too predictable... *SPOILERS FOR WHO DIDN'T SEE THE MOVIE* Jacob died in the war. It gave that idea because Alex was all like "Where's my squad? Did they make it?" like he was still in war.... *END OF SPOILERS* Looks awesome either way. Jacob's Ladder is a stupidly amazing film also

  • that would be funny..plus..have you noticed Alex's flashlight? that flashlight is also in jacobs ladder. :3 Silent hill been influenced by that movie since the first game..both have very interesting stories~

  • I would say that silent hill does parralel jacobs ladder in many aspects but re-invents its themes and builds from its own universe. The spinning bike wheel in Jacobs ladder is nearly spot on what the tipped over wheel chair is in silent hill. I would say that it has some minute David Lynch style too it but nothing that direct. I would simply say that silent hill is its own style with many many supporting aspects from others which is what makes the game so strong in the first place

  • Oh and when James Finds that video tape and watches it. That's a not at all subtle call back to lost highway. FAR less subtle than this. If you look at all the games there are some very blatant things. Much more in your face than this scene here.

  • Jacob's ladder inspired Silent Hill, this is supposed to be a bad thing?

  • A subway scene in Jacob's ladder very much like it was for Heather in SH 3. Something can be similiar and not a rip off. To shoot a game down even before playing it is short sighted. Things are also changed during development. I'm not saying SH V will be perfect but don't build up such strong negativity for it you'll hate it when it hits shelves regardless of whether or not it is good or not. We create our own reality. If we are dead set on loathing something we will even if it is awesome.

  • We're not saying it won't be good... it will be the best yet. But it could be so, so much better.

The scenes in SH3 were similar to Jacob's Ladder. Not EXACTLY THE DAMN SAME. Before, the references were pretty subtle. This is absolutely not subtle.

  • Well every game in the serries had problems. I even liked The Room but all the back tracking and chest storage runs got beneath my skin. I'm glad you at least will give it a chance. That's a good attitude and a good start!

It maybe not too subtle...but Pyramid head raping mannequins repeatedly and killing Maria over and over again was not subtle either. They drilled it hard into our heads James was punishing himself from the get-go and his relationship mirrored a reference in twin peaks.

  • Dude you could find so many similar scenes to this in other movies. It really is not an exact rip off.

  • What is funny is the recent complaints are Americans don't know horror thus ppl worry about SH V and ironically SH is mostly inspired by Jacob's ladder, session 9, and David Lynch. I find that laughable.

Being that team silent was always honest about citing their resources I cannot hold this against them. We're all inspired by something else.

Though an American team is working on SH V Akira and other Japanese over-seers are still around. Personally I think the game will be good.

  • friggin aye!!! THAT'S INSANE! 0o0

  • funny actually i thought that scene from jacaob's ladder was actually like the elevator scene from silent 3. in a way it is but now this is the closest scene.

  • I already knew they took inspiration from session 9 and jacobs ladder but i thought it was pretty cool to put a scene from jacobs ladder in for the hardcore fans of SH.

  • what is that ??? A MOVIE ??? SILENT HILL 5 MOVIE ??? WHAT ?

  • god, it's a comparison between a scene from "Jacob's Ladder" and a sequence from "Silent hill 5". Never heard of it? it's like one of the biggest inspiration for the silent hill series...

  • One of the very few good horror films that ever came out of America.

  • thats why you dont listen to your superiors when they tell you to take this "medicine"

  • ya es conocido desde los primeros juegos de la saga , sobre todo silent hill3,( chequeen la escena del subterraneo en la pelicula Jacob's ladder es identica a la parte del juego)...que estos juegos estan inspirados en algunos elementos de esta pelicula

  • The 'Silent Hill' creator's have never made any secret of the fact that they took inspiration from 'Jacobs Ladder', Right from 'Silent Hill 1' and on through to number 5.

  • They also openly admit session 9 inspired them.

  • Yes, but in the previous SHs it was different. Inspiration was more about the storyline... they didn't rip off and entire scene.. -_-

And it's too bad that they did it now.

  • funny, that's exactly what I thought too when I saw the new SHV videos.
