  • Yo dawg I heard you like cities. So we put in a city within a city so you can be in a city while you be in a city.

  • interesting topic... yes, every building, most especially skyscrapers should be structurally sound...

  • London badly needs summat like this urgently.

The option of unaffordable rent or sharing with a bunch of strangers is scandalous.

You have a home so you have space for yourself.

  • If I had the money, I would totally do this.

Set it on water at a decent location on the Thames that accounts for a rise in sea level.

The return on housing and business rents and advertising alone would pay the hundreds of billions in costs.

  • at 2:50 in the vid they mention MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO LIVE FROM CRADLE TO GRAVE WITHOUT EVER SETTING FOOT ON MOTHER EARTH ??? Um, although I can see how this could benefit a city such as this, my respect to the Japanese people, but I see an issue with this. Aside from the terrible devastation they go hit with, they are still and will still continue dealing with the fallout of Fukushima and upcoming earthquakes. continued...

  • part 2. This could prove even more deadly than what they've already had to encounter. Aside from never having to put their feet on mother earth, isn't that what the elites want? Control the populous? Keep the earth for themselves? After all, in their own twisted minds, this is what they want. Like I said, I can see some good for communities, but I can also see the darker side to this. Be careful with what you wish you for. With Respect!

  • why americans do not plan such buildings it will be pretty useful in new york where there isn´t earthquakes

  • i watched this while eating coco puffs

  • You know something like this would be great someplace in the middle of nowhere in like Kansas or Iowa or something.

  • I remember seeing this documentary when it first aired, it was great.

  • hey wanna know something cool.........instead of stop building planes and skyscrapers why dont we just stop being ignorant to religious tolerance and work together to propel us into the future faster than ever before. peace.

  • That said, I can only imagine the slight inconvenience of having all the lifts break down if you live at the top...

...but then again, it would probably be some rich bastards anyway...

  • This is why I love Japan so much.

They need to build this before I die...

...and London needs a few too.

  • Kapan yah indonesia punya ginian....

  • i better be alive 4 this haha

  • better solution is to make flying vehicles and not trapping humans into sky buildings like sheeps

  • Engineering is interesting & important because:

it applies the law of nature, facts.

    it applies mathematics, formulas, numerals.

it is systematic, analytical, technical, specific

  • innovative and good ideas.

  • Is this before or after they built the Burj Tower in Dubai (tallest building in the world)?

  • If theirs a massive Earthquake, whoever lives at the tallest floor is pissed.

  • Maybe some day but now, Sky City will have to wait for another long time until Japan fully recovers from these earthquakes and tsunamis along with the rest of the world's economies. But, this should be a reminder of how determined and brave Japan is to construct such an amazing architecutral achievment. I wish I'm still alive to see this in the future; a symbol for Japan's strength, success and human inginuity.

  • @mtyartist777 i agree.

  • @mtyartist777 I highly doubt Japan will build such a city even after it recovers from its earthquake. Japan's economy is rapidly declining, and its population is severely aging. By 2020 it will not longer by the third largest economy in the world, and perhaps drop to 5th or 6th.

  • Damn sad we had that earthquake man.

  • wait so if i live in this i will never step foot on mother earth i dont want that to happen

  • We need to build more of these, and they can build downwards to build foundations

  • Comment removed

  • I saw this in my engineering class and i thought i was such a cool idea! They need to add a few things but they thought of a brilliant idea

  • hospitals? when are they going to say hospitals?

  • Add a few radical muslims + a few jet planes ...I don't even want to think the consequence.

  • @Microglia1 put a couple of anti-air guns on the roof

  • mfw @ 2:30 - :O

  • I love the idea, so long as it doesn't become a "comfort-prison." Though, I prefer the circular cities of J. Fresco, this is a really interesting idea. I think that research for sand-enclosed buildings should be put to work to see if the idea would be feasible with such a large construct. The idea is that the sand would absorb some of the vibration of earthquakes. There's a lot to it, though, so nobody jump me for not giving the details.

  • Turn on closed captions, transcribe auto :D

  • city in a city?? but if you live there and you gou out the city you will be back in the city?? it's a very interesting project thnx for posting it

  • i wanna see babylon fall

  • i guess on the top of skycity instead of rain, snow, and maybe you can ski

  • 2010 USA=1939 Germany

  • @RcWorld7 Why thank you, thank you very much.

  • @RcWorld7 Perhaps I am. But perhaps I'm also a visionary. Prometheus was condemned for bringing enlightenment to the world. Why am I not a modern Prometheus? Why is it that, because my opinions and ideals are alien, I'm labeled a fool? Am I not entitled to my own ideas, simply because they differ from yours? I think it is clear who is the real idiot in this exchange.

  • @MrEiriku a penis building for your mothers ass

  • i want dubai to be the tallest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • My personal opinion is that Tokyo Sky City would be way too big a risk mainly because of the scene at 9:31. It would propably be more feasible to build a floating city with a wider base in Tokyo bay.

  • Chong

  • @inturn23 Ching

  • sky city the first super skyscraper or the first matrix tower to pack and stack humans for their energy

the more man moves away from his mother (nature) the more alien to this world he becomes

  • @godscuttingyoudown

How did you link the matrix to sky city? Is it because you are afraid of technological advancement? If so, you probably shouldn't be dabbling with the internet right now.

  • none other than the Japanese have to worry about this more

extremely small wealthy island country with a high population

when japan finishes these feats other nations with similar problems will look at their innovations for guidance

  • Thats some Giant building!

  • I loved this show when I was younger I wish Discovery officially hosted it, good quality and all.

  • would it's weight/mass add stress and sink the area?

  • japan is fucked...edgar cayce prophesized that it will end up in the sea.

  • @ruuumble gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • @AfroBotSays can i stick my finger in your poohole and rip your intestines out?

  • @ruuumble 0.o only if i can do u first

  • we need to make this happen

  • totally agree wt you

  • Although the idea looks impressive, I disagree. There are many negative factors as the earthquakes, the safety, the ground instability, and finally that skyscrapers don't solve the room problem at a general basis. After the 9/11 many people start not to like the skyscraper solution at all. A great solution would be that the state to offer more land around Tokyo, and big cities, so they could build houses, offices, parks and highways. Athens has same problems because of the wrong state's policy

  • Yeah wow! Sky City-a city in the sky! Woohoo! Give a month before its overrun with hoody-chavs!

  • I hate when they just put one voice above another without removing the original one.

  • just keep stracting

  • That was a good model of downtown tokyo it was very detailed and everything forget the sky city there should be a t.v report on this city's model

  • that is a cool model of downtown tokyo the sky city is nice but the greatest innovation in history would be making a model like that so in detail good job forget the building city do t.v a report on this model

  • fucking discovery channel loves their propaganda. i remember when discovery & history had some integrity. Now its nothing but 1/2 facts, scare tactics, and mindless entertainment shows.

  • @The4LA2Baker0 hey mate i totally agree wt you

  • remind me of Hanging Garden of Babylon.........I like it !

  • Build upward, not outward. Sprawl is horrible for humans and suburbs are soul-free wastelands.

  • this shit disgusts me. we've turned into lab rats...

  • YEAH!

  • Has anybody put some thougt about the terrorist atacks? Like 9/11?

    It would be catastrophic...

  • @uvx15 So we should never ever build tall buildings again.?

More people die in car crashes then terrorist attacks. That dose not stop us from making cars.

  • @watchulla - No i didn´t say that, but from that point of view is kind of scary.. Just a thought..

  • @uvx15 its like 911, times a thousand

  • Just so you know the highest building now is Burj Khalifa, Dubai 818 m/2640 ft so it's not that far off.

  • Man that looks like it would be a miserable place to live. Walls all around you and nowhere to go, no land ownership, just rats in a cage.

  • japan should kick out all the fucking africans who harras people in roppongi if they wanna give people more living space

  • Nah, let ZamatoElite voice his honest opinion and say what he wants. I'm glad to see someone openly discussing their honest opinions for once. Instead of lieing to maintain a reputation.

  • Comment removed

  • So we should just kill all the innocent citizens there?

  • Whooo zamato as a subscriber i think you should watch what you comment. I personally am not offended by your comment but people will be and if they see this it will not be a good image for you and your page. Your subscribers have never seen such racism from you. Just a piece of advice to save you some subscribers

  • I'm no racist. But I took your advice and deleted it.

Never mind nuking North Korea. The elite in power are the problem, not the poor manipulated slaves.

But my stance regarding Muslims is unchanged. A Muslim and a neo-Nazi are no different in my eyes, and thus are entitled to the same degree of respect (no respect at all).

  • I have to disagree. My god-father is a muslim and the nicest man I have ever met. I myself have no religion, not that I'm athiest, I just prefer to say that I don't believe in God or lack there of. Even still, most muslims are good people. In fact, christians are the worst from what I've seen. A whole bunch of dumbass hypocrits they are (not all of course). But still, it IS racist to single out someone because of race or religion and say that all of them are bad.

    Continued...

  • I view Americans (myself being middle eastern) as a bunch of ass clowns myself. Canada is probably the only place on this God forsaken earth I can bear.

I've met nice nazi folk too, along with Muslim folk. But in the end of the day, they subscribe to an ideology of death, degradation of others, elitism, and superstition.

The US Gov is a complete piece of shit. That we can agree on. It threw a rock at the hornets' nest, and cried wolf when the bees stung back.

  • Continued:

But you are right. Christians probably are the worst. Their hypocrisy alone is enough to make any half informed person projectile vomit.

Want a great example of Christian hypocrisy? Inscribing biblical passages on military Rifle scopes. I don't think the Christians realize their religion speaks against all forms of aggression.

But in their defense, most of them haven't even taken the time to read their holy book. If they did, they would probably end the same way I did, an atheist.

  • @ZamatoElite The same could be said of all religions (Casltevania quote FTW), as all wars see mto lead back to religion. I tried to read the bible to understand Christians, and it was painful. It's so full of crap I can't even begin to describe.

P.S. Canada was nice, but south eastern U.S. (before the white people came), that's where it's at.

  • I agree with you in every word you said.

    and it is totally true.

    Thank You.

    Accept my friendship.

  • @hobbit2245

U mad little hobbit? Blame someone else for your problems. Its the big, bad Americans fault. Quit whining

  • @hobbit2245

U mad little hobbit? Blame someone else for your problems. Its the big, bad Americans fault. Quit whining

  • @usnb0198 I'm not a "little mad", I'm fucking furious. Everything America is supposed to stand for is a joke.

  • @hobbit2245 Every people has it's pros and cons. There are americans of high culture, artists, intelligent people, writers, such as Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Woody Allen, who are always thinkful, and go against the wind.

  • @hrbear I've no doubt of that. I've got my set of Americans that I admire as well(John Carmack for example), but they are the exception, rather than the rule.

  • @hobbit2245

If you want to be thrown back to the stone age, that's fine with me.

  • @N00bcrunch3r Stone Age? Spare me. The Native Americans had technologies that the Europeans could only dream of.

  • @hobbit2245

Unsmelted reotoric Iron is nothing impressive.

  • @N00bcrunch3r Yes, but advanced astronomy and calendars actually are pretty damn impressive.

That, and we're still the best hunters and farmers that ever existed.

  • @hobbit2245

Oh I see, you ment to include the Maya. In that case, the Native Americans were actually pretty decent.

  • @N00bcrunch3r Yes, I'm including ALL Native Americans. I'm also referring to ALL Europeans.

  • @hobbit2245

Okay, sorry about that; I just normally think of North American Natives when I hear the term "Indians."

  • @N00bcrunch3r As do I, which is why I don't refer to them as "Indians".

  • @hobbit2245

Nice! Now if only we could recover from the Colombus effect we inheirited from his mistake.

  • @hobbit2245 still mad about loosing all that farmland?

  • @shewhoisgroundedforl Not just farmland, sacred land.

  • @shewhoisgroundedforl i would be pissed too, but it happens. and it has been happening since the beginning of time..... i bet in sometime or another a country will dominate america and take over. then another country will get big and try to take over so the rest of the world has to step in together and beat them down. history repeats itself over and over. so dont think america doesn't have it coming to them. but hobbit is cherokee, i bet somewhere down the line you have white in you.

  • @hobbit2245 @hobbit2245 well, i have met people from all over the world, and i will say there are ignorant, racist, uneducated, idiots from every country. blame the gov. dont blame our people. just like it wasn't germany who did the holocaust, it was the nazis. so dont talk shit about american people when people from every country can be exactly the same. the gov. of every country has its flaws, and positive sides.

  • @hippie6996 Isn't it a government of the people, by the people, and for the people? If it is so then the government is the people; meaning that a critizism of the US government is a critizism of the US people! Just saying that your logic doesn't hold up, not that I have anything against the USA.

  • @hobbit2245 no its u Indians being drunk and not paying taxes

  • @IIXXIIXX Well at least we can spell correctly. Also, we won't pay taxes FOR A COUNTRY WE DON'T EVEN FUCKING LIVE IN!! Are you really that retarded? Do you pay taxes to Austria? No, because you don't fucking live there!

  • @hobbit2245

Ian, you live in Savannah Georgia, you make use of the local services....you are free loading if you do not pay taxes...it is that simple..

And to everyone else...this dude is like 8th grade...pay no attention. Children have no concept of politics.

  • @Godraideen I do pay taxes (or at least my parents do), but I don't agree with them.

I may be a freshman in high school, but I've taken college classes. Also, I'm "gifted" (I fucking hate that word), whatever the hell that means.

First off, I'm not a child, physically or mentally.

Second, may I remind you that the greatest leader of all time, Alexander the Great, was only 13 when he began leading. Younger than I am by 2 years.

Not enough room to type more, I think you get the point.

  • @hobbit2245 A.T.G was more like 16. 16 was considered young adult as mans average lifespan was roughly 42 years.

Every parent tells their children they are gifted. My college counselor says I have the same mind as Edison and Einstein ( who she knew as a child), but I am not bragging.

Part of intellect is wisdom, wisdom comes with age..you are missing that most important ingredient. Your attitude comes across as a know it all punk. Keep that attitude, and you will be dethroned. Get the point?

  • @Godraideen Quite frankly, I am a know it all punk. Never stopped me before. And when I say "gifted", I mean I've got an IQ of over 170. I'm not bragging either, I'm just saying.

Saying that someone is not wise because they are young is stupid. You don't know my life, so how do you know the extent of my wisdom? The young are usually the ones with the best ideas, but they are ignored because they are young. Only after a lifetime of bullshit do people become stupid and ignorant.

    Continued...

  • ...continued I might want to point you in the direction of the book "Ender's Game." I realize that it is a work of fiction, but it accurately depicts the way children can shape the course of history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alexander was 13 when Phillip went off to war with the Greeks. He left Macedon to Alexander to defend it from the Thessalonians. Alexander didn't actually fully rule until 30, and died at 33. I've done extensive study on Alexander. He's a kind of personal hero to me.

  • @hobbit2245 America is not a nation but a corporation established by the virginia company under the ruleship of the british monarchy

Franklin, jefferson, and Washignton were freemasons that took loans from britian to finance the revolution war to make the people think their free

right now the US is being used to create an economic black hole to make every economy worthless and force people into the NEW WORLD ORDER of global slaver

youre retarded to beleive that nations are sovereign

  • @hobbit2245 if everyone deserves respect then why the fuck are you generalization Americans, (myself being black) my ancestors did not ask to come here and my ancestors went through hell. Black Americans pride the fact that ours fought and die trying to changing the racism that once was here but when someone ignore that they’re putting ours ancestors struggle in vein. it's not the American government, the government is a democracy, and it’s not generally Americans it's right wing political nuts.

  • @draethegreat Oh boo hoo, your ancestors we're slaves. How about this? Were your people wiped to near extinction? Were you infected with diseases that killed 2/3 of your population? I'm not saying that the blacks didn't have it hard, they really did. Also, there's nuts on the left and the right. I'm generally more conservative, thank you very much. I'd be more likely to blame the left wing.

  • @hobbit2245 No but it’s estimated that Africa had the same flat population for 4 centuries because the trade it self was a by product of war. Not to mention Africa it self also was colonize later on. I can’t even know my tribe how about you? And were talking about the government which makes us talking about politics, right now racist ass conservatives are protesting 2 mosques being built, mean while the liberals are for it. please tell me how your blaming the left?

  • @draethegreat I'm not blaming the left, I'm not blaming anyone, other than humanity in general. No conservatives are saying that we can't build the mosque, it's that we shouldn't. The backlash would be terrible. It's not about racism, it's about common sense. I could point out a thousand things that the right wing does right that the left wing doesn't.

  • if i understand this right, i agree

  • The burj dubai is 115 feet taller than this tower

  • no it isnt, lol... the burj dubai is 816 metres tall, (and officially opens today), this building would be over 1 km (1000 metres) tall... and the plans for a similar 'sky city' in shanghai, named 'extopia' would be around 1.6km (1600 metres or 1 mile) high

  • The Burj Dubai may be taller, but the sky city is far more significant.

  • The Burj Dubai I think is 2600 something tall wich is only a bit over a half mile. This at two thirds would be taller.

  • waste of money, waste of time, waste of imagination, the solution to over population is FUCKING BIRTH CONTROL AND FUCKIN CONDOMS for crying out loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If this was built in the Bronx it would be like an oversized projects building.

  • when will this be completed? the pryamid city will be comepleted in 2110 so we wont even be alive then.

  • i dont think its a certainty to be built yet... same goes for the pyramid city...

  • I would think they would use a new way of building to be used for reinforcing with little fear of the dangers with any new building housing many people and things.

  • Death Trap....that many unassuming people in 1 place, with not enough elevator-stair space to be used simultaneously is a terrorists wet dream - fuck that, dont do it japan

  • That would be a very big gamble. I hope they won't sacrifice preserved Japanese heritage.

  • Death trap

  • you want life in a big penis?

  • @rupf2 yes. in YOUR penis.

  • すごい!

    実現して欲しいです。

  • love it, love japan anyday

  • Man i wanna move to Japan now!

  • Damn Japanese.. THEIR SO HIGHTECH!! -.-like aliens ahaha not a bad thing tho.. But wow O.O

  • Man you are danm right

  • this is like in wall-e where everyone in the future lives in one whole structure...and then we all get fat :D

  • I like Japanese peoples.

  • This a part of Eugenics by means of Architecture with Ecological vegetation.

  • come to think of it if you every watch GetBAckers its like a mugenjo haha.

  • and if it collapse it will take thousands or even millions of lives. why dont you try a floating city instead? lol.

  • @babes0098 it won't collapse it will be built with springs underneath to prevent it from falling down during an earth quake

  • it would be great once completed. xD

  • in your dreams

  • Jarcar101, they actually do exist, but they're not powerful enough to bring you down 3,000 feet.

  • how's the smaller city in the sky spelled? Rupongy hills or something?

  • Roppongi Hills

  • it should be finished built this year

  • if this place can provide everyone with jetpacks (for emergency situations like a fire O.o) then its a good place to live at i think lol

  • guess what,, jet packs dont excist yet, lol

  • it looks awsome, but thats just to impossible to accomplish,,,, you know how many decades it would take to build half of that??

  • And EE addressed the issues you mentioned so I am wondering why you're hating before you've finished watching the whole show.

It's not a bad thing to consider ways to condense people. Whether it's one group with its "smart" bombs or another group with its improvised bombs, there will always be a way to bring any metropolis to its knees. Avoiding this kind of innovation out of fear of terrorism is basically just a great and silly way of preemptively doing the terrorists' job for them.

  • People should build UP instead of OUT as soon as they have the means. Cities are more ecologically sound than suburbs and sprawl. Building up instead of out would help combat our land-use problem that people mistake for an over-population problem. I watched this when it first aired eight years ago and I honestly thought it would have been started on by now, given the eagerness for lower petrol cars and proponents of bicycles and high-speed rail.

  • looks like neo Tokyo from Akira

  • this is smaller than burj.. right??

  • no, the burg is about 1/2 mile high.

  • Surley if the world tried to make more of these there wouldn't be enough materials??

  • looks like Midgar from Final Fantasy 7

  • them bowls are blocking most of the sky .... I need to see sky where i live.

  • its obvious this is the future look at burj Dubai, Millland, and this Skycity, its all about wining valuable space that will be givin back to the other inhabitats of the planet, its also their planet, but unlick 3000years ago, the other lifeforms of the Earth cannot live close to humans anymore, but that doesnt has to be a bad thing

  • this is good hsit

  • awesome that is the future

  • Mega City 1? Where is Judge Dredd?

  • amazing

  • i still think its an amazing structure though
