brilliant seening The jets and ark owned by the crows and hoadleys dodgems
i worked at the city in the 70's for fairworld and micheal haughton, flying coaster to meteorite to the twist, two of the lads i worked with are now my brother in laws
Great stuff - I was working there in '67 on Alan Knells bingo stall. Only 6d for one card, or 9d for a double. You can just see the stall near the end of the film, behind the "Grand National" jumping horse ride.
We used to spend every summer holiday with relatives in Northumberland, and a trip to the Spanish City, followed by a fish & chip dinner, was the absolute highlight for me. As soon as that white dome came into view, I was in another world. Sad to see what's happened to it now, but I expect that's the fate of a lot of British holiday resorts. It's probably cheaper to fly to sunny Mallorca than to drive a couple of hundred miles to a possibly went and windy British resort.
I've still got my picture of me and a monkey on my shoulder around late 1979 and i still remember when the cork screw roller coaster arrived (i think it was around the time Wham had all the t-shirts out or it could have been Frankie goes to hollywood) good times!!!
Great Stuff - very nostalgic brought back lots of happy memories - shame Whitley Bay has gone downhill a bit - still worth a visit though in my opinion and Roll On the regeneration plan
@H0Varlet congratz.... years go too fast. its went really down hill now. no one goes anymore, only to the odd amusements or local chippies. real shame.
Amazing...over two years ago I posted my comment on that old clip of the Spanish City at Whitley Bay, and like a message in a bottle, up comes a response.
Thank anyway for your congratz, we are still happy, travel a lot, and enjoying life, I hope you are well too...whoever you are .:-)
The Spanish City .. I remember it well and the houses in the background .. Elmwood grove ..I grew up there. My grandparents and parents owned some of the rides and stalls .. Good memories ..

Another North Eastern icon that is no longer with us. I blame people going abroad for the hot weather LOL. Used to love the dodgems.

Fantastic - just as I remember it as a child. I particularly loved the carousel.
