At the end of season 3, when all the shit comes crashing down on him from the consequences of Hamsterdam, you really feel sorry for the man.

The Wire probably wouldn't have been as good as it was if most of the characters weren't sleazy and self-serving, but Colvin was one of a handful of characters who just tried to do what was right.
