I've just bought a Loc8tor Lite (I'm a cheapskate!) for finding our 2 tortoises in the garden. I was already thinking of using silicon rubber glue to attach the tags to the tortoises' carapaces, & since they are sometimes out in the rain & occasionally like to splosh about in their water bowl I am thinking of using your sealing technique.
2 queries though: Does your silicon rubber coating reduce the volume of the tag bleep by much?
Sorry for delay. The volume isn't effected at all or it's so minimal you can't notice it.The battery is very good & should last a good few months easy. Concerning the waterproofing, the silicone way I came up with isn't very hard wearing, as my cat is constantly fighting, running through bushes etc, the silicone was just falling off! I thought of another way which is cuttin the little finger off washing up glove & 2 small cable ties on his collar, this technique is 100% waterproof & work v well
The glove-finger technique won't work on my tortoises unfortunately (nowhere to cable-tie it to!) so I think I'll have to try your silicone trick & maintain the sealing regularly. I'm resigned to the tortoises knocking the tags off from time to time as they scrabble through the undergrowth anyway so I'll keep the glue handy! Cheers.
Too expensive (uneconomic), and too big (needs miniaturization). I hope the japanese/chinese can come up with a much cheaper and smaller version of this and sell it at walmart for under 20 bucks a pop.
This morning my cat's tag was beeping, and then it flashed. I took it off & tried the handset, but it wouldn't find the tag. I suspected the cat must have dipped it in the water bowl, and opened the tag. It looked like there was a bit of rust inside. I cleaned it with a Qtip and dried it out & now it's working again. My question is: have you or anyone else had this experience of a damaged tag beeping/flashing? Is this the tag's way of alerting to a problem?
lol if you put a hole in the speaker surly you have not made it waterproof anymore, anyways i was gonna say that a trick i used when i was small to make my watch water resistant so i could show off my non water resistant watch at swiming, put clear nail varnishalong the edges when you open it and then close it and it will bond you a water tight finish, you idea is stil good but the hole makes it not water resistant
hi Lagunasaxoxr2 its been nearly 2 years since you posted this video, can i ask if your still using it or if its been reliable? I am thinking of buying one, I see they do a waterproof cover for it now but I wonder if its a good investment for the cat. feedback would be appreciated Ta
Thanks for the helpful vid mate,

I didn't say I put a hole there, the hole already existed for the speaker :)
