Its shockign that the news actually refers to people as "Liberal". Its created such a massive divide between people in the US. You can't pidgeon hole people like that, epecially in the news. America is the only place that I know this happens in!
Just another arrogant, liberal loser, Gavin Newsom moment! Thank you Gavin, for helping to defeat No on 8! Give a fool enough rope, and he will hang himself!
now the douche wants to run for governer ship. hopefully the people of the state will see that he wants to over rule the people if it means a popular vote.
but what i hope that they realize most is that if it's popular or not, the people (VOTERS) should have the say, not him.
prop 8 is passed, thanks God! earlier the Mayor said to all clifornians "whether you like it or not!" through his words he showed that he abused power, he abused the constitution, and he wiped his feet of the californian civilians, he remins me of the KGB in USSR who always said to Christians, "it's gonna happened, wether you like it or not." this is why millions of Russians left USSR. its also shows that soon US government would not be counting peoples voices in US then we have no freedom
It's a bummer that Howard Dean's moment destroyed him while Gavin Newsom's "Howard Dean" moment didn't destroy his career. Especially since the television sound technicians made Howard Dean sound a lot worse than he did.
This is the double standard ot these pro-Gay/pro-Liberal Holywood agenda. When Gore won the popular vote (meaning by majority), they were mad and they even wanted a COnstitutional amendment to do away with the Electoral College. Now that the MAJORITY of Californians, Mormons and non-mormons voted for Prop 8, they want to repel the popular vote. Please make up your mind people.
If civil rights issues were left up to the popular vote, large portions of the south would still be segregated, Christian-right fascists would be teaching creationism (fairy tale science) instead of evolution (real science), and women would've had to wait even longer to vote.
The point of a republic is to make sure that the minority isn't oppressed by the tyrannous majority, i.e. hypocritical religious zealots imposing their twisted morals onto everyone else
Womens Suffrage, as well as emancipation for slaves were passed as Constitutional amendments.. How oppressed were the gays? Were they being jailed or exiled? You want gay marriage, pass a law, not find some scummy judge to screw the system for you. Democracy Rules!
This is all BS - morality should be chosen by the people that must live with it - not by a bunch of loudmouth media and elitist politicians and certainly NOT by judges whose job it is to interpret the law not make it.
The radical gay leaders have two goals in mind through the upcoming protests: one being to normalize homosexuality in all areas of American society, and the second being to silence everyone who disagrees with them. The homosexual activists are refusing to accept the final vote as an expression of the will of America's people.
Gay marriage is NOT the same as interracial marriage because nowhere in the Bible does it say that 2 people of different RACES can't marry. For those thinking,"we passed the interracial marriage prop 50 years ago,"STOP COMPARING THEM. By being so rude in the first place, gays led most people to vote yes. Stopping gay rights wasn't the issue, it was preserving freedom of religion. If gays are to have their rights, then religions are entitled to theirs too. Prop 8 made us choose between the two.
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's growing tourism industry and the star-studded Sundance Film Festival are being targeted for a boycott by bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking to punish the Mormon church for its aggressive promotion of California's ban on gay marriage. It could be a heavy price to pay. Tourism brings in $6 billion a year to Utah, with world-class skiing, the spectacular red rock country and the film festival founded by Robert Redford among the state's popular tourist draws.
I like hearing the gays who have conceded the fact that the proposition passed. Either they are happy with what they have or they know that they have the same benefits that heterosexual married couples have and are going with it. The ones who are whining about it are the ones who are NOT content with their overall lives.
I voted yes...and so did the rest of 52% that did.
Yes - the country if fact has traditional values! Gavin Newsome sucks. He doesn't recognize law nor the will of the people through voting. Prop 8 goes to the ballot and once again, the people have spoken. Marriage IS defined between a man and a woman. Gays can have all the rights of a married couple, they just have to call it something different like civil unions. Liberals - this is the united states. We vote to make policy. Now it's been twice. the people have spoken.
This is not just a moral issue, but a social & legal issue that runs counter to our core values & traditions from which this nation was founded on. Stop judicial activism & be content with your civil-union. Be thankful you can still love but don't redefine what common-sense means!
Prop 8 approved by voters! We've successfully resisted another fascist, bigoted attempt by homosexuals to take away our rights of freedom of assembly, speech, thought & freedom to teach our children our values & freedom from homosexuals forcing us to approve of their chosen lifestyle.
It's time for homosexuals to stop their intolerant, narrow minded, hate filled Christianphobic bashing where they lynch us for opposing their juggernaut of mean spirited, hate filled, bigoted discrimination.
There is nothing about proposition 8 that will hurt anyone but to affect the legal definition of marriage.
Vote no and you may be helping encourage your children to be gay as a matter of fact as it will be, and IS being taught to children as young as 5 years old and they are extremely impressionable at this age and trusting adults to tell them what they "should be doing" in society and are usually wanting to do their best to please the adult figures who hold a unique position of trust.
Justices Baxter and Chin-2of the 3 dissenting SC judges said;"Nothing in our Constitution, express or implicit, compels the majoritys startling conclusion that the age-old understanding of marriage — an understanding recently confirmed by an initiative law — is no longer valid..It simply does not have the right to erase, then recast, the age-old definition of marriage,as virtually all societies have understood it,in order to satisfy its own
I believe in peace I believe in hope I believe in honesty I believe in kindness I believe in charity I believe in giving I believe in forgiveness I believe in America I believe in God I believe in love I believe in Marriage I will vote yes on Prop 8
I'm still on the fence about it. I think of it this way: If you're gay and are going to get married under the traditions and ceremonies of a religious institution (like Christianity) that forbids homosexual behavior, then isn't that a little hypocritical? Civil unions should hold the same rights as traditional marriage, then equality would be taken care of; but marriage in this day in age is a religious tradition.
YES on 8. From a secular point of view, gay marriage has an impact on straight marriage rights, which of course is a bedrock traditional institution. There is a good reason why American society is built around the traditional heterosexual home. As a societal stabilizer, it deserves a special place in our national life. Homosexuality is an action, an alternative. But the U.S. is under no obligation to change the traditional legal definition of marriage so everybody can feel good about themselves.
Yes on 8 all the way. Marriage is not something that the government needs to regulate, it was a religious ceremony first. If Prop 8 does not pass then churches will get sued if they don't marry gays, this will ultimately shut down religious freedom. That is what this country was founded on, religious freedom. Please keep it that way.
The more I have learned not only about proposition 8 and what is actually states insofar as far as rights, benefits and protections it does not take away as much as not passing it would from parent's rights over their children; it clearly opens the door do reverse discrimination against not only any church, but against anyone who does not fully cooperate or agree with same-sex marriages.
You will never please everyone with this or anything I learned a lot time ago but I'd say vote yes.
GOOGLE: California Family Code Section 297.5" it is amazing to see how absolutely equal domestic partners are to marriage in CA. Gays just want the moral approval of the religious institution of marriage. Vote YES on 8
Well said - I agree with you completely. The gay community knows their behavior is wrong. They think if we call their relationship a "marriage" it will relieve them of their guilt.
It is fine for gays to be gay if they want to, but imposing gay beliefs on me by attempting to change the definition of my marriage is wrong. I have certainly never tried to force my straight beliefs on gays. It is not homosexual rights that are being violated here; It is heterosexual rights. YES on 8! P.S. Gavin Newsom is a complete moron!
I agree with you. The gay community keeps complaining their rights will be taken away. But no one seems to care about the right of the heterosexual people if Prop 8 fails.
i DON'T have anything against gay ppl but I'm against their ideas. Being homosexual is a choise. There is no scientific proof that gay ppl have a "gay chromosome" or anything like that. And if you oppose Yes On 8 ur basically saying "SKREW YOUR RELIGION"....America is a land of free religion. You can't be doing stuff like that.
In the California Family code section 297.5 Homosexuals that are registered as domestic partners already have the same rights, protection, and benefits as a married couple.
If gay people are allowed to marry, MORE lawsuites will come upon churches to force the Church against there beliefs.
Save children...Vote yes on 8 so innocent children won't have to be forced into homosexual homes. Every child needs a mommy and a daddy... Children will be taught about homosexual marriages in school and that it's ok to be gay if we don't do something. Vote yes on prop 8 and sav ethe children!!
Prop 8 doesnt violate any-ones civil rights according to the law and key term marriage.
Marriage by the state is not condsider a right. It requires a marrige license, just like a driver's license. If the state doesnt give some who doesnt qualify to have a license, it's not a civil rights issue. The reason why gays dont qualify to be married,Is becuase marriage by definition is man and wife. according to the law a man cant be considered a woman.Vote yes on 8!!!
Many of us Asian, immigrating from Communist or dictatorship countries, we are very sensitive to a government that says: WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. Thanks to Newsom, he reminds us to vote YES ON PROP 8.
Also supporting prop 8 is San Diego and the military. If Los Angeles is split, then this proposition will probably pass. San Diego and the central valley combined does outnumber the total population of the bay area combined; and I predict that the Inland Empire will favor the proposition as well. I'm guessing Orange County is also divided just like Los Angeles; they'll probably negate themselves. So its the Bay Area vs The Valley, San Diego, and the Inland Empire. Not a fair fight.

1) 61% already voted yes and our vote was taken away
2) Society has to set a moral line and this is that line
3) We don't want this taught in school
4) We don't want churches forced to wed gays or chance loosing their tax exempt status
