  • GUthrie is 1000000 times better than PG.........anyone waying PG better than guthrie = IDIOT

  • @hanifabidin90 Who said that? Are you just jumping into the middle of something to troll? Originally I said "If I could take Paul Gilbert's picking, with Guthrie's creativity... I'd be a monster." Then all these contentious fucks come out and jump on Guthrie's nuts. I should've known better than to mention another guitarist's name in a video that didn't have that mentioned guitarist. Instead of thoughtful discussions, we get angry and competitive "MY GUY IS BETTER!" Fuckkk you.

  • I'd much rather prefer Mexican hat dance music! :-)

  • If I could take Paul Gilbert's picking, with Guthrie's creativity... I'd be a monster.

  • @BlikeNave you think guthrie's picking isnt good enough?

  • @turnbacktime I'm not sure to be honest. Guthrie is awesome no doubt, but Paul Gilbert is the only guitarist who completely overwhelms me with lesson on his picking techniques. Guthrie's creativity is what I like most about him. Such tasty licks. When it comes to the pinnacle of picking, I think of Paul. Guthrie could be just as good though, but my dream powers would be sucked from Paul if I had to absorb some picking abilities :D

  • @BlikeNave funnily enough i "think" so too, i also think buckethead is a little faster than guthrie. but guthries musical knowledge is far superior to any other virtuoso guitarist. in terms of technical skills i would choose shawn lane, i'd keep my own knowledge because i have a lot of melodies in my head, i just dont have the technical skill to play them yet.

  • @BlikeNave The nastiest picker is def shawn lane. Alternate picking was outrageous. Also did a lot of hybrid(like guth)which paul doesnt do.

  • @Kingding6 I'll have to look up Shawn Lane. I'm not saying that Paul is the best (although he has taught me a lot and is just a cool dude/guitarist), but he does have some great sounds and ideas. His videos on "Outside picking" just introduced me to a whole new world of picking. It's pointless to get into a "this guitarist is better" discussion. I was just trying to say that "I wish I had:" Guthrie's creativity, and (my favorite-) Paul's picking. You see?

  • @BlikeNave I definitely see. Paul is absolutly a top class guitarist and a top class dude too. Alls im sayin is if you do want to be flabbergasted and outraged, then Shawn Lane will do that for you.

  • @Kingding6 Rofl flabbergasted and outraged. Sounds fun, I'll def give it a go hahaha

  • @BlikeNave Its the creativity that counts not the picking..

  • @sakitakungtyan Trust me, as a guitarist for almost a decade- Paul Gilbert's picking is incredible! Other guitarists are great, but I love Paul's picking. You can look up any of his many instructional videos; it's amazing to see how much control he has. Fantastic technique! Ahhh I can hardly explain it. You just have to try his exercises on guitar for yourself and then it's so easy to appreciate it all. Creativity is critical in music of course, but creative picking = unique melodies + phrases:]

  • @BlikeNave as a guitarist for two decades, Ive been there and done that. I used to be a disciple of Paul Gilbert also, sure Pual Gilbert's picking technique is superb but in the long run its the musicality that counts..Im also a shredder type guitarist, when I realized that musicality is more important, It opened me to different styles of music. and by the way Guthrie's picking technique is a lot harder than Paul Gilbert's. Guthrie's phrasing is not just 3 note per string type.trust me kid.

  • @sakitakungtyan I don't think you could be any more condescending if you tried! Jesus Christ. I'm not saying "Paul = God; Guthrie sucks; I favor technique over musicality." I just said I wish I had Paul's picking and Guthrie's creativity and then all these contentious comments come out. I also said I don't know much about Guthrie at all. He could be god/better than Paul, but to my eyes- I just love Paul. Idk I'm done with this. I think people are missing my original point and just attkn now.

  • @BlikeNave Paul's picking technique is great yeah. I do think Guthrie is a lot more versatile tehnically and he's technically miles beyond Gilbert though. Paul has a certain sound in his picking, a lot of compression and he sounds very agrssive. Guthrie's picking technique may well be a little better since his licks are way more complicated. But who cares anyway? If you like Gilbert, you should!

  • @dennoow Ahh an intelligent comment, thank you. The thing is I've seen a teaching video on Paul talking about his picking years ago and it blew my mind. I've never really looked into Guthrie much but I like the stuff I have heard. I watched his "Ten fav licks" vid or something and that's what got me into him. Maybe if he put out a video that dissected his technique, I'd be blown away by him instead of Gilbert. But trying to play Gilbert's outside picking myself... ugh so hard. I like both guys.

  • @BlikeNave Well if you want a demonstration of his picking simply check out the video "fives" on here's. It;s a freaky demonstration of how skillfull he is. He wrote 2 books on guitar technique as well, he describes Gilbert's technique in "creative guitar 2: Advanced guitar techniques" and he has a lesson on alternate picking on youtube. Also check out "who's best" on youtube; he plays like EVERYONE. Paul Gilbert is in there as well. Gilbert is a freaky alternate picker though!

  • @dennoow Thanks for pointin me in the right direction den. You have helped me like and appreciate Guthrie more, where as most of the other responses have just turned me off to him and his fans.

  • @BlikeNave Hehe well I can see why, no one likes to be called an idiot for liking any particular artist I suppose! But Govan really is an impressive player. He's one of the best combining technique and phrasing. He doesn't sound mathematical like some other freaky players. He's playing very spontaneous. You should definetly check more of him if you like virtuoso's. You might also like Greg Howe and Andy Timmons (if you didn't already!).

  • Yes! finally a new Guthrie video, and not another one of random people mutilating the intro to waves....

  • @Will137 yeah :) too bad guthrie doesn't like his videos on yt :/

  • Youku!

  • <3 beautiful

  • sensational!

  • feels like a soundcheck lol.

  • some of the best guitar playing I have seen recently....So glad he's keeping torch lit....

  • Those whammy-touches he did on the main theme were so tasty!

  • Sick, sick man! I love it! :D

  • Thank you Guthrie!!! This was probably THE GREATEST Guitar Performance I've ever seen! So inspired!!! :-)

  • The greatest!!
