  • Maybe the Everly Brothers can get back together and sing about a cleaner kentucky!

  • I like this song and Kentuckians, but the litter scene in KY's and nearby Indiana's getting BAD.

Kentucky is now the #1 worst state for littering and least clean environment, writes the American State Litter Scorecard.

  • Bowling Green reminds me of Ohio :o

  • I wish Bowling Green was still like it is in this song....

  • ...another summer KOMA sounds from OKC, thanks for the post

  • #40pop,1967.love this by them, yet emotional tune also.one of their best.

  • "Way down on Richmond Green, the Prettiest girl i've ever seen, a man from Virginia sure is lucky, to live down in Richmond Green" x

  • @xstrawburreyx

Do you wear dresses cut "country-tight"?

    lol.

  • "A man in Kentucky sure is lucky to live down in Bowling Green." Bought this 45 while it was going up the charts, in my area the local station had it peaked at #11. This was September of 1967. Man, these two guys could sing! I read somewhere Chet Atkins was the one who discovered these guys. Good call!

  • gorgeous

  • The summer this was popular, '67, I was spending time in the Bowling Greean area. I was nineteen. This song has special meaning, especially "Bowling Green girls" part. It was still a time when just a kiss was enough to forge a lifetime memory. I have never forgotten her.

  • My favourite Everly brothers song hands down! Beautiful.

  • Bowling Green, I love it , Oh Kentucky !!

  • How about this DYNAMIC DUO FOLKS. Don and Phil are by far the best instinctive singers that will probably ever live. WHO LOVES YA DON AND PHIL!! Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell, USA Ret.

  • If anybody knows how to get the song by DON AND PHIL called "EMPTY BOXES", please let me know.I would greatly appreciate it. Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell. USA Ret.

  • @MetalMoo69 Me tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

It is my favorite Everly Bros song and I love the "ching" and "ba-ba-ba" vocals! The best sounding re-master I have heard is on the now OOP CD titled Sunshine Days Vol. 4. The audio is very clear! Great CD too!

  • He's still a Kentuckian. If your parents for generations are Scots and move to England for work, then have a baby there, the child is a Scot, for Christ's sake, it's called Genetics you nit-picker.

  • May I be so bold as to point out that Phil Everly isn't a Kentuckian. He was born in Chicago.

  • Yes you may...because you are correct!

  • @VinylNostalgia Hmm that's a very moot point. Although born in Chicago, Phil was I understand raised in Kentucky by Kentuckian parents. By safeway56's logic, John McEnroe is German.

  • @safeway56 That is true safeway 56, but why knock Phil or Don. This new garbage on the air waves is brainwashing our children beyond comprehension. Give the guys a break man, please. Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell, Ret. USA.

  • @safeway56 Hey safeway, I was born in Norway, and raised in Los Angeles. The only thing that means anything is that we are all Americans. Trace your roots back to Europe or where ever your'e ancestors came from. The only thing that matters about beautiful Kentucky comes directly from the heart. Who cares what side of the fence you were born on. All of this garbage on the air these days and you have to put the Everly brothers down? Get a life man. Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell USA Retired.

  • @safeway56 Yeah, but Don WAS born in Muhlenberg County. The family had its roots in Kentucky. Those Appalachian mountains just breed talent like this.

  • @safeway56 I'm sure Phil regards himself as Kentuckian. My understanding is he only lived there as a baby. John McEnroe was born in Wiesbaden - does that make him German???

  • @safeway56 I'm sure Phil regards himself as Kentuckian. My understanding is he only lived in Chicago but was born to kentuckians and raised there. John McEnroe was born in Wiesbaden - does that make him German rather than a New Yorker???

  • @jonnybrowne yes it does.

  • @safeway56 according to Phil that is a mere technicality. He said ..." I was supposed to be born in Kentucky "

  • @safeway56 Fine, by your rules.... Illinois is not the land of Lincoln. He was born and raised in Kentucky. Neither is Obama.

  • totally agree norskygirl, great to know they wrote it, they should have written more, their own songs like Cathy's Clown and this, are fabulous, and right nobody wrote as much for themselves, till Beatle's kicked that door open

  • I agree 100%... They wrote a lot in the early years, it just didn't get put on albums. However, they did write more in their later years. In fact most of Phil's solo stuff was penned by him or he collaborated with someone. He wrote some wonderful, brilliant songs... wish he was still doing it and performing it!

  • I never knew why I heard stories of animosity, songwriting eh, and by Phil, Thank-You I will listen to his solo stuff now, didn't know this.

  • Great song - live version on youtube in series of 4 songs is great version too imo

  • Great song! Thanks for posting.

  • oh yes this is beautiful, they never had a chance in 67, like other artists, they were competing with the Brits (clapton, beck, etc,), not to mention the man himself Dylan.

  • Don't forget, locheelad2, that The Beatles started that British invasion, followed by The Stones.

With a few exceptions... not many American artists (no matter how great your were) survived the onslaught of Brits! Now I loved the Beatles, but I loved the Everly's more... it was a sad and frustrating time!

  • My home town!!

  • Glen Campbell does a fine version, as well.

  • not as fine as this

  • Top 40 gold!

  • Bowling Green, Ky. seems to be a booming town these days. GREAT VIDEO!

  • Went to College there in the 80's...nothing had changed since they wrote this song! Beautiful young girls! Wish I could go back.

  • I recall reading that this song was written by Phil's wife at the time; Jacqueline Ertel and his friend Terry Slater. Interesting that Phil is singing lead; a very uncommon occurence in the 1960's.

  • wondered in my youth listening to thie everlys number in the uk what was bowling green like ,ha,ha,ha

  • Can't beat Ky.!

  • How true. They got it right--a man in Kentucky sure is lucky.
