As a singer and song writer myself I can sympathize with them, I sometimes find that pronouncing lyrics the British way will either sound better or Rhyme better with whatever line is before or after I sing it.
They knew what they were doing, ant sounds better than aunt for this song.
sophistication played with reckless abandonment-beautiful.Sting always complained that copeland rushed the beat and he does, but it still works great!!
It was such a shame that they couldnt stay friends back in those days. For my own selfish reasons, I can only imagine how much more great music they could have done had their(Sting & Copeland) ego's not derailed such a creative career as a band. But glad they could get back together recently.
hes the best in the band im sorry im biased as a drummer but he is like a top ten drummer of all time and he lives in the shadow of sting who i dont think ranks nearly as high as a bass player or singer (still fantastic though)
Love this. It is a longer version. I love Andy's guitar solo in the original, but in this one it is even better, plus Stewart gets to do some mad drumming!!!!
@FUNKYTRIPUNKY I know I'm late to reply to your comment, but I felt the same way about Mr Copeland. This mofo filled the sh*t out of some police songs. Definitely ancient drum n bass. Just listen from 1:36!
THE BIGGEST Police fan here..... ;played Outlandos over and over along with Zenyatta and Ghost when I was 14 in 1981......Saw The Police on the Nickelodeon channel this year!!!
dyy - thanks so much for that comment. Thanks to it i got my fifteen year old son to actually listen (as opposed to the usual hear and endure) this song and he a big LP fan agreed with you. Thanks! It is nice to have a sliver in common with him when it comes to music.
It was on friday the 7th of september 1979 in de Vliegermolen in Voorburg. The support act was a dutch band called Vitesse. Producer was Alfred Lagarde and he was the guy who took the people waiting in front of the door in to watch the soundcheck. It was my first Message in a Bottle.
I my god.. where did this one come from, stewart is so rewarding to watch. he is a true power house of drum energy like no other. sting and andy are cool too don't get me wrong. the ultimate three piece band ever.
you need to google the lost bbc tapes by the police..its a torrent download on mp3 and they have a version very close to this...same time period and it surpasses even this one..check it out. they sound similar but the bbc one just has extra spark
すでに、ヘッドバンしてる♪ Just like the fans at V-kei concerts, audience keeps banging their head through. (Can ... stand losing your cute hair, Sting.)

Question: Why do i usually always see tape on certain drum kits? Are they broken or are they like for sound? Ex at 2:09 on the snare?

@TheBalloonHoax For sound :)

How young they were…
Full of energy.
Performing seemed to be still very exciting for them.
I only saw that energy in Sting again on the Dream of Blue Turtle Tour in Frankfurt Festhalle.
Thanks for posting this!

Great video, a real gem. From some TV show I guess, the way it's filmed. From 1979. Give us the specifics!
