Why don't fans look at famous people like people? I mean, I love the Counting Crows- love them. But if I had a chance to meet Adam.. I would chill out a bit. I would not try to talk to him about music, I would talk to him and see if I could get to know him a bit. Ignore the music and say. "Hey, man. How are you doing?"
If I were famous and some screaming fan ran up to me I would want to run for my life!!
You're freaky good at telling stories. Reminiscent of Kevin Smith. I have no idea who you are and I still feel like I MUST know what's going to happen next.
I'd be weirded out too if random people I'd never seen before and will likely never see again came up and started talking to me and knew all these things about me.
Imagine, they know your name, age, interests, and all these other intimate details, and you know nothing about them.
People shouldnt assume that all Artists are are comfortable with their fans as some. His still a very talented man yet reading his lyrics he doesnt really seem like a guy that would be a very sociable at times...mabey im wrong?
Am I the only person who is not surprised by Adams behaviour i mean reading his lyrics he seems like a sad, synical "keep things to himself" kind of person nd apperently at the time Counting crows got big very quike unlike some bands who get a very slow learning curve to becoming stars but mabey this isnt the case I just personaly think people shouldnt assume that all musicians are going to be really comfortable with their fans nd doesnt make the assholes if they are. ps u r a gd story teller
This is a great story. It's weird 'cause the feelings you described about Adam were similar to what I was going through. I used to email the band's official contact thingy an try and solicit Adam to give me advice on my break up with my then-girlfriend. It was this really goofy, embarrassing time in my life....
hi! This is hysterical.....I'm glad you posted it. I've met Adam Duritz probably more then 20 times.....and I've had experiences like this before but I keep going back for more. At this point, he recognizes me and I just say "Hello". But this says it all....sadly, he doesn't have the presence that one would expect or hope for...luckily his words, when sung, speak for his lack of social skills.
First, Adam is an extremely gifted musician/songwriter, but second, he strikes me as a shy, quiet, and private person. I would not be upset if he seemed to be a bit put off with personal meetings with fans. The Crows went from nobody to success almost overnight. How do you adjust to that? It takes time.
As it's already been said before; you're a pretty good story teller. I'm a crows fans for a number of reasons and along the, people in my life have become crows fans due to me. There is something I just realize while watching this video, that now after working in entertainment staging, meeting many famous people (adam once) I'm still doing this thing and excited more to meet the fans then the talent, people like you, artist like us. You're very beautiful btw.
He's just a person, a hot person, but just a person nonetheless. Personally, I've had experiences where I'm just hanging out at home and someone I don't know comes knocking at my door and I'm kind of like, " Oh, what the f*!@ do they want. People need their space, ya know!? It's hard to be a celebrity and like Adam once said some where, "It's the whole famous guy thing...." Guess he doesn't like it..
Thank you for sharing your experience. Makes you think about the "cult of celebrity" and how we confer such status on others. Waste of time, imho. I would prefer to develop my relationships with real people who add positive meaning in my life. Good luck to you.
yeah, ive met him probably 15 times, he was nice one of those.. and by nice i mean he didn't act like he was totally fucking inconvenienced.. they always did meet and greet after the shows.. but yeah.. if you dont like talking/meeting the fans.. dont hang around to do so after the shows.. whatever..
I too have met Adam and I am a huge Counting Crows fan. He was a major asshole but it was to be expected and I never again talked to any musician I liked.
As you can see; im a a CC fan. I loved your story telling and made great viewing; you look like you can keep an audience interested. I met AD and was nervous that something would happen to shatter my expectations of him as some kind of'God'. The meeting went well but i think that AD admits himself that you have to be realy close to him to tollerate him but i dont think he intentionaly trys to make people not like him. Again, lovely story.Well done on winning.
i think people who are berating you for supposedly criticizing adam duritz in this commentary are missing the point. i liked your story and it seems like the humor was more in your account of how you personally were thinking and behaving and how that changed through experiencing the harsh light of reality.
I met adam in atlantic city at the house of blues and he was very nice,i dident expect him to drop what he was doing and hang out with me..i guess some people think he belongs to them because they buy a counting crows CD
I was very young and very naive, and you're right, in all fairness to him, I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to be that famous, having all these people thinking they know me. He was as nice to me as he could have been. He invited me to the party. He appreciated my silk painting. I have nothing against Adam. I just think the experience makes for a good story.
I love that!! I am a big fan of Counting Crows, but I also believe that you should never meet your heroes. I had a chance to meet Adam when I was young, and this makes me glad I didn't!!
I've met most of the members of Counting Crows and they were all great people...I have never met Adam though so I can'nt comment on him...but I can see where it might be a little creepy with people you don't know coming up to you constantly telling you how they love you and how you touched their lives andsuch stuff . I don't know if I could handle any sort of fame like that but I know it's the price you pay for putting yourself out there.
I met Adam @ Hard Rock Las Vegas and he acted like I didn't exist. He was playing 21 before the concert. I tried to say "Hi" a couple of times and he totally ignored me. I am a huge fan and was so devistated that I couldn't listen to a cd for months. So....maybe he REALLY is a jerk!
thats hysterical... i've met adam several times at random places and am not a fan. i've witnessed him be such an ass to the people paying his bills.... i just don't get how he has fans!!!

I add Adam Duritz technorati tags to random blog posts to mess with his head. It's almost as much fun as pissing in the ocean.
