thanks man i guess i have the same problem with my ipod the select button doesn't work...your wheel did work right? another thing what did you use to open your ipod? it would really help
yes - mine was the center wheel - once removed you'll see there's little black stickies between the button and the actual circuit board - my center one kept sliding off to the side making it not work... the others (the outer wheel) were fine.
I've had to fix mine 4 or 5 times so far... I'm bad and don't use the anti-static stuff.... haven't ruined it yet though ;-)
I watch the video each time i do it so I don't forget a step and break something
I pry the outer case open -carefully- with the miniscrewdriver/can opener on my swiss army knife or a flat head screwdriver that has a very thin edge - you could fabricate one just for jobs like this by filing the tip till it's rather sharp like a chisel
makes it easier to get it in the gap then gently twist and work around the case and it'll pop open -
there are tension clips holding the case together and that's what you have to 'release'
my 30gb 5g ipod's audio plugin doesn't quite work. only the left side of ANY EAR PHONES you use works, and the right side doesn't. the only time when both sides work is when i apply pressure by moving the part where you connect the earphones to the ipod to the sides. what can i do?
ok -don't freak guys... i touched whatever i could find metal - including the back of the ipod case - but i don't have an antistatic thing so i took my chances - the first time i took it apart i figured it was a lost cause anyway ...
I was wrong - - - but since then i've had to pull it apart 3 or 4 times as the sticky dot thing that the button sits on top of keeps sliding off to the side making the middle click button to stop working--- ugh!

@9ktlyn It's an adapter for an Ipod dock, incase the dock doesn't support the form of your Ipod Touch.

Your computer does not meet the iPods minimum system requirements.
You need to identify a more effective method of connecting your iPod to your computer.
Your iPod needs to be reset.
Your iPod is malfunctioning and needs to be professionally repaired.
i personally emailed you a link to a site that explains possible solutions in more detail (youtube doesn't let you put web links in comments)

At least i know how to do it now - I am now tackling my brother's older G3 40GB pod - it's less user friendly to work on...
