Hamble Lane is known as the B3397, To be frank, with that heavy goods traffic, most of whom are unable to safely overtake you, you'd do best to stay off the road and on the cycle paths, including the new one northbound out of Hamble.
There are a number of factors to be aware of on this road - it's the busiest B road in the country, with shift workers arriving at 5am. 85%ile of road traffic is breaking the speed limit, there are two schools, 300 + tanker movements a day alone and some fat vehicles with motor cruisers on them. There's a humpback bridge that must be walked, then stay left on the cycle path until the railway tracks after that the choice is 2 wide paths. Riding on the road will just obstruct the traffic. Enjoy.
@zonkieskattie I'm not convinced its the busiest B Road by a long stretch. The A27 runs nearby and most traffic appears to use that in my experience. I do completely agree that the motor traffic equasion is quite frightening for many. This route for most traffic is a loop back on itself.
Of course cyclists have to be seen as "traffic" or else we endorse pavement cycling. ;-P
Its a rubber block and velcro sometimes called twofish lockblock. They can be bought from Dogcam Sports and Action Cameras. You velcro one end to handlebars or where ever and the other end goes around the bullet cam
technically yes, or "positive instruction" as the HC puts it. Still personally think that a proper "cyclists give way" sign would have been better as it avoids confusion.
Interested to see Hamble Lane as I use it quite a lot. Its a pleasant ride from bursledon to go all the way to Hamble then take the little pink ferry to Warsash and ride back up the river on the path to Swanwick.
I like the bollards on the side of the path, bit more protect and stops parking.
I wonder if zebra type crossings (that cyclists and peds could use with priority - but still look before crossing obviously) instead of dismount signs along cycle routes where toucans would be a bit over kill.
Trouble with zebra crossings is legally you have to be on foot to use them. The closest we have is the toucan - and its usually quicker to cross without them around here, haha!!
TBH I have no idea why they thought to put dismount signs when all you need is a giveway..?
Motorists 'seem to forget' these unmarked police vehicles. They are often in 'unexpected places'. When I see them, I enjoy seeing dozy motorist going right into the trap).
What was really funny is that evening I saw one and gave the guy a little nod. He just smiled back. He had his police white shirt on too so was easy for me to spot at my speed, not for the odd cheeky motorist.

How did you mount the camera? The footage is very smooth.

This path is impossible at school time. You have to use the road.

Yeah kind of guessed that due to the college around the corner from Hamble Lane. I think theres a school out that way too.

Those "Cyclist Dismount" signs.
They are reccommendatory, not mandatory.

I meant it would be a new style crossing that both peds and cycles could use as an alternative to nothing or toucans.
It will have a silly name, like ZEBUDY (ZEBra+BUDdY - so you can cross with your buddy on bike/foot....gedd it?) ;-)

Ok, it should really be Zebedy, (my original comment didn't go through)
There would be another in joke to use these as crossing points on roundabouts.....magic ones. ;-)

Yes, that bright white shirt (and badge) is a dead giveaway in a dark vehicle. Sticks out like a sore thumb under the lights at night.

When I spotted them, in their hideyhole, at nighttime, they gave me a hoot. Their dodgy car parking at the end of a junction alerted me to them:-

It looks good to be off road, away from the main road. I couldn't see any speed cameras considering there has been speeding along there.
cyclepod1 2 years ago
I dont recall any there. There are speed cameras and the odd unmarked police vehicle near by (bursledon road has a speed camera).
The police do set up their unmarked along various points, though I wont say specifically incase any numpties are reading, haha!
