As the documentary says, the role is based on Mata Hari (Maragretha Zelle MacLead) who actually was shot by a French firing squad as a German spy on 15 October 1917. As it turns out, when the file on her was opened in the 1980s, it showed she was innocent of espionage for the Germans. The scene, disturbing though it may be, is, therefore, more or less historically accurate as concerns the death by firing squad.
That firing squad shooting that woman bothers me. I don't like watching it. Maybe Rex Ingram was mad at his wife Alice Terry, and he secretly wanted to kill her. Rex Ingram is a bit over the top sometimes.
Remember it was the 1920´s many scenes in movies and cartoons made during that era, are now politically incorrect. You are right I don´t like it neither.
Colleen Moore is as sweet as she ever was in pictures. Sweetness is a quality that you don't see in many famous people any more.
