  • is this procedure painful ? i wouldn't know because I wasn't told or even talked too by the doctor who put the stent in , all I was told was he was going in to remove a large stone and if he couldn't he would put a stent in , I never heard of a stent , he didn't ask if I HAD QUESTIONS , HIS DEMEANOR WAS if he was in a hurry , so I don't even know what actually happen during surgery and afterwards, he never came to see or talk to me after the procedure while i was in recovery or admitted in room

  • so here's the thing, i had surgery for kidney stones and they put the stint in, luckily i was asleep. yesterday morning i got the stent taken out, and the answer to everyone's question is yes, it's the most unbearable pain imaginable, only for a few seconds though. after that you're a little sore. but today i'm feeling fine.

  • This is not a stent it is a IVC (inferiorvenacava) filter it goes in to a vein instead of an atrery and is used to catch clots traveling through the body not to open arteries. This is how ever a demonstration of how to retrieve a IVC filter out of the body. This should be fairly painless procedure. I have never heard of a Coronary stent being retrieved out of the body. If it "renarrows" they can go in and try to blow the stent up with a angioplasty balloon.

  • I got the stent in 10 years ago. was in for 3 months. hurt like a cunt when they took it out. was like pishing razor blades

  • @craiger9876 Oh thanks! I had one done as an emergency procedure just a few days ago after being admitted to hospital with severe renal colic and almost having the "screaming habdabs" as we call it. Guess I've got to look forward to intense pain when mine's removed in a few months time then....................but anything's better than the pain from kidney stones, I s'pose..................

  • If you have a stent put in....why would you want to retrieve it at some point?

  • They can fail. Plus the cell wall of the artery will grow over the stent. After a number of years, this new cell wall may become restenotic ( re-narrow ). Once this area inside the stent becomes re-narrowed it would not make sense to put a stent inside of a stent. So my "guess" (aka ask a doctor) is that the old stent would have to be retrieved before the site could be re-stented. Don't be afraid though! You won't believe it but I have 8 stents in my heart. They said it was impossible!

  • @osensei2987 Thanks for that info!

  • Because the stint is just used to keep the tube from your bladder to your kidney open. Having this stint in is uncomfortable, but necessary. When you pee, the stint will make it burn.

  • @Jfiore10

  • I need this done in 2 weeks and not looking forward to it.I want to be put out, I'm nervous, but the say just novacain and done in the dr office. I had the surgery 9 hrs ago and feel 1000 X BETTER!!!!!!! Really scared of the removal of this though because there is no cut to go through they go through my you guessed it

  • I hope your procedure went well. For the benefit of others, my first stent was put in over 10 yrs ago. Back in the 90's, you really had to endure that stab in the groin for a few seconds. But with the modern sheaths, it is almost the same as the novacain shot down there. I honestly couldn't tell the difference between when they were numbing me and when the sheath was inserted! That's good news if you're waiting to have a procedure done! Good luck to all!

  • Muy interesante thanks tcn1974

  • great i hope more
