tbh i was not feeling it in this version.. both costumes and acting was not very good.. it felt cheap.. when doing this part you need something stronger.. pretty much lost me at 0:16 when they where supposed to be synchronized
is it normal for the orchestra to be in front of the stage?that would get in the way of people watching the play.whenever my school does a play, the orchestra is at the side and mic--ed as well for the speakers to sound out
@Amdragfan2 actually yes that common practice. If the stage doesn't have an orchestra pit in front of the stage, then they will place the orchestra right infront and put curtains around them so they aren't as distracting
@lsgmorti we did..all of the kids in my class hated it because they can only appreacate the **** u hear on the radio. I played dick and i got the most applause
actually i looked up the lyrics and he says " And i never use a big big D" ...? honestly i tried to look up what that means but icame up with nothing.
A "big big D" is the word "damn", which was considered a much more serious curse in Victorian times than it is today. The captain is saying that he'd never be so ill-bred as to say "damn".
Of course, in the second act, when he finds out that his daughter wants to marry a member of his crew, he does say "damme, it's too bad!", much to the shock of Sir Joseph Porter (and his sisters and his cousins and his aunts). "Damme", of course, is a contraction of "damn me".
Despite your point of you I can thrill a girl or too
But I'd rather get it on with you

@Amdragfan2 It's supposed to be in front, but somewhat below the stage, in what's called the pit.

he never says "damnit." Or so he claims.
Later he can't help saying the word half a dozen times.

Actually the word is "damee" pronounced "damn-mee. Source: The Complete Annotated Gilbert and Sullivan, Oxford, edited by Ian Bradley.

@LethbridgeStewart Well, the Captain never uses a big, big D because he would find it too painful.
