  • What grade is this piece?

  • Fantastic!

  • Terrific! Great technique but also musically done. One of your foremothers, historic trumpeter Edna White, used a shorter version for her vaudeville act in the 1920s. You can hear a sample if you search on Edna White CD.

    Brava to you! great job!

  • Wow!!!!!!!

  • Bravissima!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very clean articulation.

Very clean tone -- like Rafael Méndez.

  • Very, very nice. Impressive to close your recital with that.

I am so attracted to awesome female trumpeters!! :) :)

    Great Job!!

  • i love your tone

  • whats the best way to work on the C trill??

  • just hear the C and the D in your head. practice slowly and then build up speed making sure not to hit the B flat of the E

  • very nice

  • excellent! the sound makes the film not look so good cause i would expect like a pro recording with the really good cams, lol

  • great job. i really liked how you could make the piece your own, so to speak

i felt as though your tonguing was a bit fat throughout, especially around 4:30.

also--and keep in mind this could be completely related to my specific taste--i thought that some of the tempo variations were a bit exaggerated.

even so, i enjoyed the performance, and wish you the best of luck in your career

  • man. i've been playing for 5 years and ur GREAT! the best i can play rite now is either concert etude or rag polka time

  • You can do the 'clarke' carnival of venice for Solo. its a scaled down version of the arbans.

  • Yea i can almost do clarke's now, but im not clean at all for the ending part

  • *Imagination goes wild*

  • Excellent duoble and tripple tounging work!

  • So... I play the trumpet for nearly ten years and... I'm totally in LOVE with you !

    Bravo =)

  • I do remember in 1988 Star's Soprano soloist, Barry Hudson, played this for his DCI solo competition. He was amazing....

  • I remember Barry Hudson, he was my brass instructor in Star '92. Great player!

  • Did Barry always tell you all to "Support your air"....with that great Boston accent? '91-93 were some great years. It amazes me that some of the corps members that marched with me in '88 marched with you in '92 like Josh Talbott, Matthew Tye. I don't think there has been a corps to march like that since then.

  • Great job! I also marched Star in '88, lead Soprano. Even though Blast! is a wonderful show I miss Star with a passion...

  • You are an absolutely wonderful player and I enjoyed this thoroughly.

  • freshhh1994, please tell me ur joking. SHES pretty fuckin good. Nice job.

  • she had a great tone quality, nice vibrato, awsome technicallity, and great intonation. NOT ONE MISTAKE!!!!!! i was reading the part as she played. To the guy who said she iS unprofessional, post a video of u playing it better than her, if you cant then you should not be critisizing!!!!!!!! AWSOME PEFORMANCE!

  • 잘하내 여자가

  • great sound!dont here to the others who say is unprofessional...for the sound u have...u r tottaly professional!bravo

  • that was great amazing but very un profshional

  • for real?

  • ahhh you're capturing the effortless effect that I've been trying so hard to get. extremely good

  • damn fine

    Professor John Amaral

  • omgosh that was absoulutley amazing

  • girl, you rock!! congrats

  • bravo

  • practically flawless!

  • nice one, i love it ! rorod philippines

  • i like this version, nice performance

  • The mostly of this piece was really good, nicedouble tounging, but the second last variation was way to fast and you should lay down some more work on the last variation, i sounded like you was on your way to loose control. But kepp ut the spirit!

  • I like her because she never forgets to play musically. Also, she has a lovely tone.

  • admirable virtuosity. Swaggering overconfidence on stage. Well play, but the last variation needs work.

  • genial

  • wow. Not bad actually. So many shitty versions out there this is quite nice.

  • This is truly amazing!!

I've tried playing this piece but just can't!!

    I'll just keep practicing!!

  • perfecto

    a fan from asia

  • Très joli son, une belle musicalité... ça passe sans soucis.

    Bravo!!

  • Working on my doctorate in Euphonium performance right now at the University of Alabama with Demondrae Thurman, and must say this was a very very good recording. Hope to see more from you soon ms. rodriguez

  • doesn't this piece require triple tonguing?

  • Yeah, like at 3:30

  • no, 3:30 is double tonguing. Triple tonguing is used at 4:30.

  • oh my god how are you, whats your name, you are wonderful

  • It is in concert hall at UNT. NOT recital hall

  • very great job...im 14 and ive learned it but it kinda sucks lol... i cant get to have the double-tonguing perfectly...and cant place the high notes when the theme plays with the...C,B,C,D,C,B,C upper lol... anyway that was great

  • whyd u put ur 14?

  • I've played trumpet for about one year. I can play the inro and the air and I'm working on the 1st var. I have to learn to double tongue first.

  • You're cool! Thanks a lot!

  • I've been trying to find a good recording of this for a long time.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Raquel you rock!! Great job. Also great job to your pianist, it sounds like she was playing a reduction of the hunsberger arrangement which is very difficult too. Are you single? :)

  • Awesome job on the Carnival of Venice! Bravo

  • Hey Rachel! I remember that recital, it was awesome. I tackled the Tomasi this semester. I'm studying with John Holt here at UNT and I'm finishing up my first year as a MM in performance. I've come a long way since I took lessons from you. Stay in touch.

  • My god. That is amazing. Well done.

By the way, have you seen the tuba entry of the carnival of venice. Blows my mind.

  • wow, your tone sounds great...normally on a video recording like this the tone usually sounds blurry and messy but you make it sound like a real recording. Great Job..amazing technique. Good luck in your future career.

  • Look there are tons of hard solos, but I wouldn't classify just one as the "hardest" It all depends on what a person is good at, be it articulation or high notes or superb tone. I can speak from experience and say that the carnival of venice is pretty hard, and to play the entire thing is pretty rediculously hard. Good work!

  • trup3tgal, wtf are you talking about? colleges look to see if you're a solid legit player before they start teaching you jazz

  • great job i loved the fact that you pushed the tempo to crazy that took guts but it was a little sloppy

then again there were a lot places it was perfect and

i bet the sloppiness was just a silly mistake.

overall you are an awesome performer with mad skills

i hope you keep getting better and succeed in your music career

  • amazing...

  • amazing...

  • my trumpet teacher did this for me the other day!!

  • impresionante si es cierto que toca la chica. Una interpretacion magistral. ¿ Cuando lo hare yo?

  • What college is this?

  • university of texas i think

  • go figure thats a long way away, its hard to find a college that accepts carnival, all colleges want Jazz...yuck

  • It's actually University of North Texas in the Recital Hall

  • University of North Texas

  • When is your CD out?

  • Great tecnique When are you releasing your CD?

  • I'm very impressed. So did you have to start out with the variations very slow? I've been trying to tackle this damn peice for over 2 years. I MUST know how you go about it!

  • if THAT solo is taking you over 2 years to play you should get a different solo and work on your technique before playing things you can't (actually do the second thing first)

  • nice performance.

but you should have played with slower tempo instead of some miss tone.

  • Did you know that the 4th variation is much easier to play on a cornet than it is a trumpet? Try it!

  • im in love lol

    but really your good

and i don just sy dat 2 everyone

    check out my video

  • Fantastic. I'm impressed by your tongue during the triple tonguing sections in the third variation. Beautiful job!!!

  • whats's s special with the 6th grade? how many grades are there?

  • I love this solo.... really amazing job performing! D'you know by chance where I could get my hands on that sweet peice of music ^^

  • It's in the Arban's book (trumpet bible) i don't know how to use adobe or i'd send you the pdf

  • How about the Arban's trumpet book, aka the Bible for the trumpet, duh.

  • nicely done on the 3rd variation. ive not heard it played before but i did today after hearing it ^_^. you are amazing

  • and arranged a 5 part quintuplet and played with 4 guys from the canadian brass orchestra that was when i was 7

  • yeah, and i've been to the moon twice.

  • yeah same here...okay dudenamedmarko

  • yea i played this version in 6th grade and played the herbert l clark version last year in 7th grade

  • YOU PLAYED THIS IN 6th GRADE?

  • Bullshit

  • He acaully might not be lying it just wasnt the arrangement with the cornet Solo as an orchestra piece this song it not very challenging on account of the fact that stringed instrument have a muich easyer time playing at fast tempos and for long periods of time

  • you frget that this song wasn't arranged for stringed instruments. Who gives a shit about them? Trumpet players sure don't. Arban's arranged this piece specifically for trumpet/cornet.

  • yes.. however if he plays a string instrument it is much it is more reasonable that he played it in 6th/or 7th grade because it is much easyeir for string instrument to play this. and im not forgeting anything. the first version of carnival venice is for an orchestra not a trumpet u better stfu becasue if it wasnt for the ocrhestra there wouldnt have been a Carnival of venice them for arban to arrange for trumpet...

    ignorant ass

  • how many years have you been playing trumpet?

  • arban version is easy compared to the original^^

  • What is the original?

  • Umm ur a dumb ass Arban wrote this song....

it is the original in addition to that the "original" which is merly a theme from the song is written for violin.... which is extremly more versitile than a cornet or in this case a trumpet...

  • Soloist is great...Pianist sucks ass! I really appreciate the soloist sticking to the original manuscript for the most part. She let her control, tone and effortless tone and fingers go to dumps on the last movement. It's not hard if you just brlow through the phrase and practice with the metronome relentless. She did this for all movements but the last. Almost like she was in a hurry instead of focusing on quality. She definitely did the job and performed amazing. She'll go far.

  • I only hope to be half the musician that the pianist is, she has no equal.

  • Just about any pianist I've ever worked with even in undegrad could play circles around this performer. The only thing she lacks most is going out and listening to others perform this piece. Her style isn't the same as the performer. Her job is to accompany, not solo.

  • ok seriously yes it migth be an incredible hard pice and no i cannot play it but this piece is not That hard to play almost all professional players can play this piece so yes she is very good but there a plenty of people at this level and higher

  • yes exactly, most professionals can play this, so what? Most professionals don't brag about being able to play it, whereas most amateurs do brag about it. What you seem to forget is that the reason Arban arranged this piece was to tie in every skill required to play trumpet/cornet effectively. Besides have you even attempted this piece. Most players refer to it as the holy grail for trumpet for a reason.

  • and carnival of venice is NOT the holy grail for trumpet this is a peice of cake compared to solos like the tamasi legend and many others it is a nice song though

  • then why did Allen vizzutti use it to write carnival of venus (hardest version) because there wasnt a song hard enough for him to show of his superp technique??

  • its not almost all professionals its all of them

  • you....are....AMAZING!!! im trying to learn that song right now and it's so hard

  • Nice to see/hear a live performance, lovely, thanks for sharing

  • Excellent.

  • I guess I love you

  • Nice intepretation!

  • Holy crap. I've been working on Carnival for weeks and it doesn't sound anywhere close to that. You are an amazing player.

  • Good Job...

  • I'm so glad I'm learning to play from the people that taught you in Brass Theater.

  • university of north texas... home to Brian Bowman.. the EUPHONIUM GOOOOOOOD. i .... speechless....

  • your a god

  • Im sure you have heard Wynton Marsalis? Yea, you did spectacular though! Im a senior in high school, and I can almost do the fourth variation that fast, not yet though. I have half of it memorized though. Splendid performance though!

  • really... what does wynton have to do with Raquel and how many times do you have to say though ? ? ? (there are some things we will never know)

  • Why do you have to be rude about that? (there are some things we will never know)

  • what does wynton have to do with carnival of venice? umm let me check, it's one classical piece he's famous for...do a youtube search for carnival of venice and see who's one of the first performers to come up

  • Very good... don't rush...

  • This is incredibly excellent.

    Very good!

  • Nice job! And to pull something like that off at the end of a recital is quite the accomplishment. Very musically done; nice full sound. Keep up the good work!

  • are you a college performance major, how many years?

  • Raquel, you did a helluva job on that solo!! I have been playing trumpet for close to eleven years, and I have played some good solos, but never that good!! I wish you the best in your music career.

    -Mike

  • Raquel, Yea I dig your control on all of this. Enjoyed the performance. Hope all is well in your new gig.

  • very nice.

  • very, very nice. Triple tonguing sounds behind in skill compared to your double though...but heck, it's a recital

  • i played it with 13 ;)

  • simply beautiful!

  • sounds great

  • awesome!

  • Well done!
