This was such an awesome time in my life and to have Bruce and the E Street bands music helping me along the way. These songs have brought joy to me since 1975 and I love them.
great video, great song, have seen Bruce 26 times over the years, first time in 1974, best live performer of all time. these young bands can't hold a candle to the E Street Band and could learn a few things from the Boss!
I was 2 years old when this video was filmed, but his early music from the 70's is my favorite. It amazes me that during every record, every era, Springsteen may look and sound different but ALL the music is so damn good. It's been a 40 year musical evolution. Bruce was hot then, he's hot now, and at every point in between.
Hey, relax!!!... He's such a great musician, but that doesn't mean he's exempt of receive jokes. I know he's not gay, but I found that a little rare... that's all xD
@dreadmaniaco Yeah i know he is. It's just, some musicians like doing that. When you're up there with a bunch of people looking at you, and you're having the time of your life, they want to sing together. It's not gay, it's just them. As a band.
The album version has always been one of my favorite tracks on Born to Run, but this live number is unbelievable and brings this song to life! Whether it's Bruce's harmonica intro, Roy's piano, Stevie's added lyrics, or the Big Man's solo, this live version is one of the greatest single pieces I've ever seen the band come up with.
Mr. Budd says there aren't enough jobs to go round, and that is why the working people are getting so discontented. Lanny found himself strolling on deck with the host, who had just sent him a check for sixteen thousand dollars.
I find comments like yours arrogant and offensive.
"You haven't seen the really great Bruce Springsteen unless you saw [first tour seen by me]."
I've seen between two and ten shows on every tour, beginning with Darkness (1978), including Winterland on 12/15/78, and the shows, and the tours, have not been better or worse. They've all been incredible, the Greatest Show on Earth, but just as every album, and every one of us who loves Bruce have become different, his shows, and tours, [more]...
yeah..i just picked this up(along with two other discs) up on Amazon last week. Just look for the Born To Run 30th Anniversary Edition. Should be 22 bucks... a steal!
I've seen Bruce and the band about 25 times, listened to Born to Run dozens of times straight through, own hundreds of bootlegs, but this is THE BEST version of this song I have ever heard.
overblown ?are you kidding?he;s been kicking ass since the 70,s and still going and writing incredible music name another artist who has done that all that is jealousy and that comes from other artist young people woudn;t know good music if it hit them over the head ,my sympathys,
young skinny rock star I wonder if he knows that what he is doing is making rocki roll history ...... I saw Bruce in 1977 I knew it then wow Born to Run tour of the hook ...
So much fun watching these old videos of Bruce & E-Street... very cool to see what they looked like when they were my age! 35 years later... and they still rock hard for 3+ hours. Thanks for the upload.

The pace these guys played with at this particular time period is amazing. I am going to see them in Philly next Tuesday and I don't expect the same passion you see them play with in this particular vid. But, as a Bruce fan, especially with the E Street, this is the effort I will remember and think of as I watch them jam again 30 some odd years later. It is more about what they have accomplished and stood for - as far as hard work - and how you can relate in your every day life.
He's so awesome, even still today. He was 38 when I was born, so I kind of wish that I had the opportunity to see him get his start...etc. I'm so glad he's still around, and sharing his extraordinary music with 21 year olds like myself. And still making wonderful music today!! Let's face it, he could have retired years ago, yet he hasn't, because this is what he loves to do! Bruce is awesome! But "awesome" is just one of many words to describe him. : )
i agree with you to a point. i wouldnt say that he sucks compared with the music of todays generation. but springsteen now, compared to this springsteen from this show sucks. this shit is magical. this is the only version of this song ive ever heard that i liked b/c of the energy. this whole show is magical and he doesnt perform like this anymore, and no one would expect him to, how could he? hes like 60 years old now. but back in the seventies he was fucking phenominal way bettr than now
I have to agree to both oipbhakeld and iluvmattdillon. Those 70's shows were so fucking amazing and it just doesn't gets any better than this. I'm also glad that he's still around and i cannot have enough from this man. This version is the best and especially the intro is magical. I'm an 15 year old dutch guy and i have been bruce springsteen fan for all my live (my father is also a big fan so i'm named bruce in real life and my little brother steve :P) Hammersmith odeon = legendary.
everyone is welcome to their opinions i suppose. u can call him the boss if youd like. doesnt change the fact that and i stress in my opinion, his music from 1990 or so up absolutley sucks. but thats just my opinion, b/c everytime i hear born to run or concerts from 78 or earlier, then listen to his storytellers version of thunderroad, i want to shoot myself. there is no comparison, in my opinion, its a completely different person singing the songs.
i dont bad mouth this bruce. i just state that he is horrible now compared to back in this time period. doesnt mean hes a bad artist, b/c even if youre horrible compared to the greatest artist ever, you still could be in the top 85 percentile or some shit like that. it just amazes me the number of people that disagree with me. i find it hilarious. yeah, ok, a 60 year old man is just as good as he was when he was 25. that makes a lot of sense. lmfao. ne one who thinks that is a noobbb.
What makes Springsteen so special to me is that each album is different. Sure...he could have gone out, redone Born to Run 15 times and called it a career, but he changes with each album...does his thing and damn the commercial success. Do I prefer this to some of his new stuff? Yeah...but artists who last 40 years have to change. Otherwise, they just wind up on late night infomercials singing their 3 hits for a Time Life "Remember when" DVD set.
dude, i totally agree with you. all i say is that people say he does his old songs just as good or better now than he did them back in the day, and that is just not the case. i love the song waitin on a sunny day by bruce, and i do like some of his new stuff. but people try to tell me that hes better now than he was then, and theres just no way. thats all im sayin. watch thunder road on vh1 story tellers, its garbage compared to the hammersmith version. and thats not an opinion, its fact
hey joefor3 I saw him in 2005 and he played for 3 1/2 hours. it was the worst show ive ever been to. and maybe it is the best act in rock, but it pales in comparison to his old stuff. all i listened to was his first 3 albums, and his live 1975-85 album, before i went to that show, and what i saw was no where close to as good as those albums. and thats my opinion, and thats my point. bruce, not the band is not as good as he was in his early days, and people disagree w/ me for some reason. idk y
Of course he's not going to be the same as he was THIRTY years ago. I wonder what you're going to be like when you are pushing 60! I think he is still DAMN FINE!!!
u say that like im the idiot for saying hes not as good now as he was, but im not, im just arguing w/ the people that say hes better now than he was back in the 70's. pay attention teach4deb. noob.
This stuf from 1975 is the best. When I saw him in Atlanta on Sunday, April 26, 2009, he was at his best. Just different. This young voice is what we all got hooked on. He's just grown up. So, I say 1975 is best and 2009 is best.
Sorry, I'm a fan, and while I can differentiate, I won't choose.
Non-sequitor anybody? Why should I grow up? I have all I need to live and am happy with the outcome of my life. There's a lot to be said about taking life a bit lightly. You do know it's relatively short--right? You need to daydream more often. Lighten up or go flush your head in the toilet, or do both.
That's kind of where my comment was going. Only used the term Growin' Up to play off one of Bruce's bests. What I really meant was that people change, and being that musicians are just people it stands to reason that they'll grow and change also. So either we roll with it, embrace and enjoy the change, or we post about how a concert sucked because it was different then we expected. The way I look at it, is if you're close-minded to change, you'll miss out on a lot.
The way I look at it if someone thinks a concert sucked because the artists newer music doesnt appeal to them thats their business and perfectly legitimate for them to say so. That also a part of Growin' up...allowing everyone to have their own opinions despite the fact they differ from our own.
When Born To Run came out I bought the album (yes album showing my age)that day, My girlfriend and I listen too it all day and night. She's The one was and is to me the best song. Patty wherever u r you're still the one!!!!
this is the best rendition of this song - without a doubt.

Well...he is still the boss...35 five years of rock with sold out stadiums, arena and palasport....the time goes by for everyone,

everyone is welcome to their opinions i suppose. u can call him the boss if youd like. doesnt change the fact that and i stress in my opinion, his music from 1990 or so up absolutley sucks. but thats just my opinion, b/c everytime i hear born to run or concerts from 78 or earlier, then listen to his storytellers version of thunderroad, i want to shoot myself. there is no comparison, in my opinion, its a completely different person singing the songs.

oiphakeld has been bad mouthing bruce in like every one of the videos from this concert lol

i dont bad mouth this bruce. i just state that he is horrible now compared to back in this time period. doesnt mean hes a bad artist, b/c even if youre horrible compared to the greatest artist ever, you still could be in the top 85 percentile or some shit like that. it just amazes me the number of people that disagree with me. i find it hilarious. yeah, ok, a 60 year old man is just as good as he was when he was 25. that makes a lot of sense. lmfao. ne one who thinks that is a noobbb.

I agree with you. After '76 or so not the same.

Hey oipbhakeld I saw him in New Jersey in July 2008 and he played for 3 1/2 hours how could you say he's still the greatest act in rock
JOEFOR3 2 years ago
hey joefor3 I saw him in 2005 and he played for 3 1/2 hours. it was the worst show ive ever been to. and maybe it is the best act in rock, but it pales in comparison to his old stuff. all i listened to was his first 3 albums, and his live 1975-85 album, before i went to that show, and what i saw was no where close to as good as those albums. and thats my opinion, and thats my point. bruce, not the band is not as good as he was in his early days, and people disagree w/ me for some reason. idk y

Of course he's not going to be the same as he was THIRTY years ago. I wonder what you're going to be like when you are pushing 60! I think he is still DAMN FINE!!!
teach4deb 2 years ago 2
u say that like im the idiot for saying hes not as good now as he was, but im not, im just arguing w/ the people that say hes better now than he was back in the 70's. pay attention teach4deb. noob.
oipbhakeld 2 years ago
I am paying attention, dear - I understand your point, but why do you have to be so nasty?

This stuf from 1975 is the best. When I saw him in Atlanta on Sunday, April 26, 2009, he was at his best. Just different. This young voice is what we all got hooked on. He's just grown up. So, I say 1975 is best and 2009 is best.
Sorry, I'm a fan, and while I can differentiate, I won't choose.

Like ^^^ said, Bruce is Growin' Up, maybe if you're a fan of his music you'd grow up with him, oipbhakeld.
SomniumYT 2 years ago
Non-sequitor anybody? Why should I grow up? I have all I need to live and am happy with the outcome of my life. There's a lot to be said about taking life a bit lightly. You do know it's relatively short--right? You need to daydream more often. Lighten up or go flush your head in the toilet, or do both.
DGwapa 2 years ago
That's kind of where my comment was going. Only used the term Growin' Up to play off one of Bruce's bests. What I really meant was that people change, and being that musicians are just people it stands to reason that they'll grow and change also. So either we roll with it, embrace and enjoy the change, or we post about how a concert sucked because it was different then we expected. The way I look at it, is if you're close-minded to change, you'll miss out on a lot.
SomniumYT 2 years ago 4
The way I look at it if someone thinks a concert sucked because the artists newer music doesnt appeal to them thats their business and perfectly legitimate for them to say so. That also a part of Growin' up...allowing everyone to have their own opinions despite the fact they differ from our own.
