  • fucking beast

  • Bounced...

  • This hurt my chest o.O

  • Man my school is great fuck you

  • Then whats elite

  • @Horstman07 Elite is well past 65.

  • Ok whatever

  • @rileymclp Plus I already am an elite shot putter I set our school record with 55 feet

  • @Horstman07 We don't care its the comment section..

  • @Horstman07 You call 55 feet elite?

That's stellar, but far from elite.

  • @Horstman07 I feel sorry for your school.

  • God damn lighten up I was just kidding

  • who ever the fuck says it doesn't count if you bounce it off your chest???? when the fuck do you bench and not bounce it off your chest outside of competition....idk bout you but if i bench 600 with a bounce ima be the happiest guy in the world...i guess your one of those powerlifters that puts a suit on that helps you bench 200 more pounds than you normally can. EAT A DICK horstman07!!!!!!

  • impressive

  • Doesn't count he bounced it off his chest

  • @Horstman07 fuck off. Go become an elite shot putter, or bench 630 raw then talk shit

  • that's what i call EXPLOSION...

  • Despite the bounce, that was some serious speed and power! Takes a lot to bench 630 in any way

  • Very impressive explosive speed!! That takes insane power to move that kind of weight with that much speed.

  • so you only use 10% of your strength in the GYM!! LIKE THIS!!1 So when his adrinalines pumpn.... thats crazy

  • BEAST

  • that's RAW POWER..

  • shot putting weighttraining is realy different from only weightlifting, the athletes need speedpower!

  • Considering there are only about 10 people EVER to bench over 600 RAW trying to call this guy out on a "poor" 630 pound bench is fucking laughable

  • @Cmac1000rr theres a lot more than 10

  • @Cmac1000rr actually there are 58 people listed on the 600 pound plus raw bench list but that list is actually incomplete.

  • @zrx7769 Touchae.

  • @Cmac1000rr Even if the list of raw 600 lb bench pressers had 10x as many people, out of 7 billion people (plus those who have passed since the pursuit of bench pressing strength became a social norm) Cantwell's not doing too badly.

  • BOING!!!!!!!

  • @zrx7769 why

  • @H3XZOc why what?

  • Did any one of you realize that this guy is 6'5 tall. Not some kind of midget powerlifter. This is some hardcore power. If this guy slap you in the face you'll fly like bumble bee.

  • impressive

  • hehe he looks like a chickmunk.

  • he throws shotput...like i do......so unlike alot of these people on here that r bagging on this guy are stupid....i understand ...when we work out its not always with perfect technique.....we modify workouts to help with our throws...he needs explosion not 800lbs of slow ass strength.....

  • he throws shotput...like i do......so unlike alot of these people on here that r bagging on this guy are stupid....i understand ...when we work out its not always with perfect technique.....we modify workouts to help with our throws...he needs explosion not 800lbs of slow ass strength.....

  • Lets not compare him to Mendy. Same movement used for two very different purposes. Fact of the matter is, Mendy is a better bencher. Put this guy in a meet, with a powerlifting bar, and even a slight pause, and he'd be lucky to hit 600.

  • hahaha shit.i felt my heart almost break from seeing him drop it on his chest like that

  • Alot of powerlifters hating on this. Lets check the facts. He is a shotputter, so probably benches twice a week max, its not his focus. He doesn't do tonnes of assistance work, suit work etc etc. He is an olympic athlete. He gets to do his sport in front of a packed stadium with millions watching on TV, not some regional powerlifting meet. If this dude went and did powerlifting full time, he would be pushing 700+ raw-FACT.

  • ok first off only an idiot benches twice a week, suit work dont mean shit when u lift raw and if u lift equipped u train equipped so ur prior sentece makes no sense, and no he would not be pushing 700 plus raw , there are like 2 ppl in history ove the 700 pound mark, u cant just jump from 630 to 700, and powerlifters dont do tonnes of assistance work either, so once again ur not makin much sence at all,

  • i love how kids on the internet are ripping on the way this olympic champion athlete is benching when they can't even bench a third of what he does with proper form

  • Most throwers harness the "stretch-reflex" or "stretch-response" of the muscles involved in their events. You won't see them loosening technique in curls, leg extensions and any other isolation exercises IF YOU EVEN EVER see them doing these? Actually, they won't bounce their squats and deadlifts either but they absorb A TON of force (not literally but pretty close to half ton in some cases with their clean and jerks) when catching the weights especially if catching into a rock bottom position!

  • @jimboondawg u realize half a ton is 1000 plus pounds right actually 1100

  • Wow, he bounced the shit out of that.

  • absolute beast.

  • Thats a reall bench press. no suit, no belt, no nothing. I guarantee those guys with the bench suits that bench 1000 pounds couldn't come close to benching 600 pounds raw like this.

  • what is a bench press suit?

  • @albertgo it is a suit you wear that forces your arms to stay straight and helps immensely with someones bench. Look up some videos where people bench like 900 pounds you will see that their arms are always straight out.

  • @lehma236 That's a very bad guarentee when it's a well known fact that Scot Mendelson can bench 1030 in a shirt and has the world record with no shirt at 715. A 715 proper form bench would be over 800 if using a bounce rep like this guy here.

If you don't think so check jeremy hoornstra's numbers: 615 in competition whilst he has done 700 in the gym as a bounce rep.

This guy in the video is strong as hell, but you are extremely wrong about shirted bench pressers.

  • @URAGR8M8 scot medelson did not pause his 715, he also was on his toes to get more leg drive and more arch. He would not do 800lbs with a bounce.

  • @desembodic He was on his toes because he has a congenital deformity with one leg very short. While he didn't pause, he didn't bounce which can add a significant percentage. He did the 715 easy and I hear he went for around another 40lbs or so and only just missed it. That would mean something like another 6% more total weight to use a bounce - most people get 10%+. 800 w/ a bounce would not be that difficult.

  • @URAGR8M8 um still greatly increases bench by being on toes. Pausing also makes it 10x harder and is how bench is judged in almost all competetions. He did bounce a little if would bounce more doubt would help him probably hurt him. He will never ever get close to 715 again raw he has had some injuries ext.

  • This is an unbelievable lift, the guy has so long arms and he is pressing 630... RAW. 'nuff said.

  • yeas

  • Look, in track events, ESPECIALLY the shot, the only thing that matters is explosion strength. That means that the bounce here really isn't that big of a deal. What's important is that he's able to keep pushing the weight with good momentum.

Yes, this is not a perfect lift. But it DOESN'T HAVE TO BE, that's not the POINT! You have to take into account what type of lifting he's doing. You can't take a 1000lb bench presser and make him throw like Cantwell, it's not the same type of strength.

  • @RedManGuard101 so true. power lifters just don't understand

  • @RedManGuard101 VERY well said. And might I add that bench is not the most important workout for shot put either.

  • @RedManGuard101 Yeah but you could probably make Cantwell spend a year in a Bench Shirt and make him Press 900-1000. Ryan K, the biggest bencher ever, doesn't do much more than this kind of weight raw and all he does is bench.

  • it looks like u know many things.. i dont know anything about that.. can u link me a site ?

  • He knows nothing about motor recruitment??? He's the world champion in the shot put.

  • @laskji 3times

  • 600 is 600 bounce or not lol!!!

  • No its NOT u retard if you knew anythin about lifting you would understand that Its alot harder to press without bouncing it off your chest rather than what this idiot did in the video.. Just look at the bar how it bend when it touches his chest, thats all momentum..

  • @HeavilyArmoR3D

lifting is momentum bro take a pill. olympic lifting, powerlifting, strongman all use momentum. so what if its a bounce this is not a competition. I suggest unless anyone on here can do 630 or at least 315 don't say nuthin!!

  • 1) He is the reigning world champion in the Shot Put. He is 6'9" and over 340 lbs. He would make you look like a smurf in anything you did.

    2) It depends what you are going for. Shotputters are training for ballistic strength not slow bodybuilder mirror muscles.

  • the guy is 6'5

  • Yeah you are right. He's 6'5" not 6'9"

  • @laskji

Hate to be an ass, but hes 6'6, haha

  • @1134BlackLabel

Yeah I realized that after I posted...

  • @HeavilyArmoR3D doesnt matter its still 630 lbs.. i'd like to see other people do it

  • Comment removed

  • He's 6'9" 340 lbs, and world champion in the Shot put. You are a Bro.

  • you have no idea who this even is do you

  • factor in that he is totally clean too, if you take that into account you realize that this guy is an absolute beast.

  • 630 raw and no wrist wraps real strong

  • Comment removed

  • WOW!

  • my last name is cantwell

  • He just did that in a T shirt probably in the midst of a workout. Genetically he is probably more talented than 99% of powerlifters out there.

  • Freakin beasty

  • animal

  • animal

  • HOLY SMOKES... wonder how much will he do with the power lifting suit on...!!!!!!!!!

  • Only gays wear powerlifting suits.

  • You mean a bench shirt.

He can probably get around 800. With bench shirts you cant bounce.

  • more like what could do with a decent arch, wider grip, bench bar, and some decent leg drive I doubt 700 is out of the question if put any ammount of effort into it. The guy is definitely blessed with some amazing genetics.

  • 270 kg omg!

  • 630lb is actually ~285kg

  • oh ye sorry omg!!!!
