  • The "killing celebrities" show was not a good idea and expressing his views on homosexuality may not have been a good call, but the rest was very good. There was more good material than bad. It should have been kept in.

  • Yeah letterman do whatever makes you feel good asshole. And hope you guys are voting for ron paul because he is practically bill in the political arena except for the pro life stance which iv always been against. im not christian and i love bill but abortion just seems wrong

  • The jokes were hmmmmmm...ok....not brilliant....a little edgy for the mainstream....but alright.

  • @sooper2dooper3 "ok....not brilliant"? out of curiosity, could you name at least one comedian and routine available on youtube that you would characterize as meeting the criterion of "brilliant" vis-a-vis Bill's routine? this should be interesting.

  • @tindesk136 Not in order: George Carlin, Mitch Hedberg, Billy Connolly, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Steven Wright, Russell Brand, Dave Allen, Dane Cook, Rich Hall

  • @sooper2dooper3 Your halfway home, now just ID a 3-4 minute compact routine. That's what we are talking about, not 30-40 minute meandering sets. And Rodney still gets no respect.

  • @sooper2dooper3 dane cook sucks

  • @ProblemForSolution I knew when I included Dane Cook many people would say that Dane Cook sucks...well....I'm just being honest...I think he's funny....although I REALLY can understand how a lot of people would find him annoying.

  • Comedy needs someone like Bill to point out all the screwed up shit thats going on in the world now, he'd have more material now than he could keep up with. God love him...

  • I've just finished a book about Bill called 'Love All the People' it wasnt Letterman that cut the routine from the show it was CBS, so Letterman is taking the bullet for them. That was part of Bill's confusion over the matter, they lied about who cut it and why!? Why bother putting the video on like you're trying to make up for cutting it in the first place when your still shielding the truth about why it was cut, cause CBS said it would offend middle america, cos they're not intelligent enough.

  • @hendrixenigma: EXCELLENT COMMENT MY FRIEND :) RIGHT ON THE METTLE FOR ME

  • Weird, in a way she reminds me of Dave's own mother. He's had her on the show many times, and she has the same no bullshit dignity as that Bill's mom has. Maybe that one of the reasons Letterman is being so humble about this.

  • Because notice how most of his other jokes are very directly and obviously skewering different groups, like corporate sellouts or pro-lifers, but then suddenly he introduces a very subtle joke about the ignorance of gay bigots? Makes you wonder whether he really was just making a straightforward joke about how gay male sex is gross.

  • Bill went for the easy way out on the gay joke. It worked because for his pro-gay audience they saw him as being sarcastic and skewering that ignorant way of thinking. For his anti-gay audience they ate it up because it's the same old yuk-yuk-yuk about how gay male sex is gross. That was probably his intent--to play to both audiences. But we'll never really know, now will we?

  • @Kalanag01 i don't want to know what kind of shit you think is funny.

  • @InternetPersonNumber You don't want to know but I'll tell you anyway. I like intelligent humour, and this was even out-dated at it's time. I bet I can find a bunch of comedians that had already had that "jesus on a cross" joke before Bill.

The only thing shocking about it was the graphic nature of the first bit, which I think would probably still shock the main stream public today if they saw that on TV. I personally don't care, I just found the whole set unoriginal.

  • @Kalanag01 You're right, we dont want to know what you think...

  • @Kalanag01 I found it funny.

  • Comment removed

  • He spoke the truth, and you can't do that in America. Certainly when advertisers are paying for Pro-Life commercials in the middle of the Letterman show he was banned from.

    "free" speech and all that.

  • Man Letterman thought that was dated......Bill Hicks was beyond his years he started at the age of 16 Bill Hicks Words live on

  • Comment removed

  • Minimally funny. Basically just blah. No 'pop'.

  • High class audience right there.

  • because your a fing zio shill david

  • I can understand why David pulled it even though if it was me I would not have.

  • @DJSexLeopard who are your favorite comedians?

  • He truly was ahead of his time, literally every one of his jokes can be related to situations now. mediocrity in music/entertainment has gotten worse, economy related things, evolving ideas because people still seem to be stuck, war, pro-life, religion and the overall anti-intellectualism in the world.

  • HaHa, Billy you had one hell of a ride and you made my ride that much better. Rest In Laughter!!

  • @Alternativeknow Damn right! He was the MAN!

  • He was ahead of his time! Everything he joked about comics are still joking about to this day and I am sure then he was labeled evil and insane. Even the Billy Ray Cyrus joke was still hilarious!!! Lol wonder what he would think of Miley, ha! . Sad that such a great talent had to die so young and tragically.

  • If you look at bill right after he said disgusting and the people cheered, his face shows slight dissapointment

  • if Bill Hicks was alive today the joke would be "I finally got my own show coming out this fall thats titled Lets Hunt and Kill Justin Bieber then we'll be back in 2012 with Lets Hunt and Kill Lil Wayne... also Look out for our Lady Gaga, Drake and Rihanna Christmas special"

  • @kiggittykyle he probabily would've lost the faith in society.

  • @kiggittykyle you, sir, are retarded because you put words in Bill Hicks's mouth. I'm sick of the J. Bieber jokes. Get the f*** over J. Bieber already, because all the haters like you make him more popular. He's an idiot and a product. We all get that. Bill Hicks, please continue.

  • @imchangingtrains wooaa, all out of CRACK!? Coming down HARD!? Sell your PC!!

  • Hendrix is on harp tonight! Great line!

  • There are audio pieces on some serieus sh!t that everyone should listen too:

The discription of his heroic shroom trip: Actually shed a tear on that one..

    Thnx Bill! :)

  • @kroese1870 Is it on youtube?

  • RIP Bill Hicks, you were one of the good guys.

  • Obviously the only thing it says about Letterman is that he was a huge fan of Billy Ray Cyrus back then and was offended by Bill's jokes but now realises in hindsight that Achy Breaky Heart was and will always be shite :)

  • the letterman audience is just wack lol

  • I found it funny....

  • As Rich Hall said, "there is a difference between a sense of humour and the ability to laugh". Which category do you find yourself in? The audience members who laugh at the homosexuality bit too early fall into the latter category.

  • The Joke at 7:19 about the Cross was why they pulled his performance???

It was the most original & Funny Joke that he told. I'm not Biig a Fan about the rest though)

  • @RonnyUniverse I agree, that was his only funny bit I thought, that's the only moment found any laughable humor. The rest is just blah.

  • Unfortunately,YOU KNOW, he suffered from YOU KNOW Caroline Kennedy YOU KNOW "YOU KNOW" DISEASE

  • I have never encountered a REGULAR Joe that was this humble, let alone a famous person.

Dave just won my "millennium" award.

    Long live "Worldwide Pants"

  • @Prometheus1st Or, maybe he was just exploiting the death of Bill Hicks, for ratings and to make himself look good. Too little, too late.

  • @iiwatcher That's ridiculous, this was long after Bill's death. If he wanted to exploit Bill's death he would have done this long ago.

  • @ethanB612 Of course it was way after his death---just in time for Hicks to be recognized for his genius & become more popular than ever. Just the right time after all those years for Letterman to do a 180 & do a show on it. Over your pointy little head, moron?

  • @iiwatcher No way was this about ratings. And if it was: good, he should be trying to get as many people to watch this as he can, to make up for stealing Bill's platform back then.

  • @ethanB612 WAY, it was. There isn't a sincere bone in Letterman's body. Good? Good for who? oh, that's right Letterman & his ratings. Idiot.

  • @Prometheus1st Did you support & cheer for Dave when he admitted,

(about females working on his show),

that the world wide pants were around his ankles. lol

  • @Prometheus1st He was using it. Nothing more. Don't be fooled.

  • Could do with a little less "Ya' know, ya' know, ya' know.....but not bad.

  • Not bad, but not all that funny.

  • @jstrahan2 Well it was a public television. You need to watch some of his other stuff, absolutely brilliant!

  • Very funny and intelligent stuff! Absolutely funny!! For sure!

  • RIP, Buddy

  • I can see why they didn't air it--not funny.

  • @gmdinformation Very funny!

  • RIP Bill, may St. Peter meet you at the gates

  • was that stairway to heaven at the end? it would have been fuckin awesome

  • As if it was Letterman's decision, fucking corporate sell out puppet!

    Miss you so much Bill!

  • Good on you, Dave.

  • Fair Play to Letterman!

  • I cant believe there are people out there who think Bill was overrated???

The guy was way ahead of his time. Look at his stand ups on politics and the legalisation of drugs. Everything he spoke of back then (late 80's,early 90's) is totally applicable to the mess this world is in right now.

We get told what to do, when to do it, how much we earn, how much tax we pay. All of this to make a minority richer and have the world run just the way they are comfortable.

They dont care about you or me!

  • This is a horrible reproduction of Bill Hicks... Censors didn't let them do shit, watch Bill Hicks in the comedy clubs. Greatest comedian, greatest person ever.

  • @pablo4115..... overrated? he was completely underrated in his time, appreciated by only a minimal audience. How does underrated become overrated? My only problem with this routine is the opening.....he misjudged it completely -- not funny at all -- unlike the rest of this routine, which contains flashes of his comedy genius. But the opening was too self-righteous, too top heavy with intolerance, which in my humble opinion, was his only weakness as a comedian.

  • atheist smokers FTW!

  • "even oysters have enemies" - Jack Nicholson.

  • best dave show i've seen in a long time...what a gentleman he can be.

  • "it says more about me than it does about him" damn, lettermen if you're gonna play this footage and still make it about you why play it all? what a self absorbed fuck.

  • @barracudatheband If you can't comprehend what he meant in saying that, you are an idiot.

  • @hungryman211 i know what he's saying, that doesn't mean he pulled it off well.

  • I understand why he cut it... Shotgunning, crossbow Killing another? Funny/Edgy stuff - lil too angry and "gay topical" for Dave I guess. I wouldn't have cut it - but I totally understand.

  • Letterman came, hes a good guy. i think the point is that people do change for the better

  • sure it would have counted a whole lot more if that apology had came earlier but nevertheless I think its still a stand up move from Dave. Better late then never.

  • There are some people that think Hicks is not funny. The reason why is because one needs to have a more abstract understanding of the world in order to REALLY get his humor and some people don't have that abstract understanding. If you had that understanding about media , politics , dating and religion then you'd have the frame of reference to be able to understand and relate to Hicks' humor more thoroughly.

  • @ReeseMac Or it could be that's he's just not funny, abstract or not.

  • @brfatal1 To each their own but at the same time its hard to become a big name in show business when you describe a guy like Dick Clark as a wolverine-face antichrist thats undermining the conscience of America and impregnating Chuck Woolery with his spawn to crap out entertainment like Rick Astley , Wham , Marky Mark, Debbie Gibson, & Oprah. Some would be so shocked and offended by his description of such beloved names but miss the point because of it. I found him funny. Dick & Oprah didn't.

  • @ReeseMac But that's the FUNNIEST PART of the whole thing.. Plus, doesn't South Park do stuff like that like every week? And South Park is one of the most successful shows of All-time. So, what's the problem?

  • @DonRMB .....but even South Park has received backlash......have they not?

  • funny that the joke at 2.24 is actually about our-time-mark wahlberg. jeeze i'm baked.

  • The funniest thing is the thought of Jesus talking to God and calling him "dad"

  • @bewilderedkettle What do you think funny is then? You can handle the truth.

  • @lebiew lol He's just not funny. There's nothing humourous within his acts... it's just him moaning and sharing his opionion which about 40-60 percent of people agree with - using silly noises and actions. Boring.

What do I think is funny? Comedians like Bill Bailey and Dylan Moran make me laugh... Dara O'Briain, too. But not this opinionated, vile, idiot.

  • @lebiew ...oh, and that boring sarcasm... I'm yawning just typing about it.

  • With the rampant christian right in the U.S. it will always be a controversial decision to show that act on a mainstream talk show. I fail to see what Letterman gained from airing it as a mea culpa other than to genuinely show contrition for being a shithouse. Fair play to him.

  • As for my last statement, I apologize for the poor grammar. I'm expanding my mind while trying to vent. Very frustrating to say the least knowing that a great man was censored.

  • @ybrik222 David Letterman is the Devil. Just because you apologize for doing something doesn't make what you did ok! I'm sure everyone person awaiting the death penalty in California state prisons are "Sorry" for what they did. Choices people, that's what Bill was talking about. Letterman had a choice and he choose to hurt a dying man. Sadness is far too less of feeling for this slight against one of Americas greatest philosophers ever! Rip LB, GC, SK, MH, and BH legends among the peon masses!

  • @Icreamsickill so youre comparing Letterman pulling Hicks's routine to people who rape and murder people......... haha the irony..."come here".... lol..... o and Letterman didnt know he was dying !!! Fair balls to Letterman for apologizing.... He was wrong to censor Hicks and he knows it..... You need to stop been such a OTT drama queen about it.

  • Marky Mark is Mark Wahlberg for anyone who doesn't know

  • @ff2paladin no duh

  • Yeah Dave, cutting the clip DOES say a lot about you. It says that your pussy-whipped by your corporate paycheck, you spineless puppet.

  • If only Bill Hicks had that show Miley Cyrus (hannah Montana) would have never happened. Oh Bill we miss you!

  • David Letterman should have aired it in 1993. He wold have had been more noticed. Fuck David Letterman.

  • @G0FlyAKite1

How can you say, "Fuck David Letterman," when did such a great job of admitting how he was wrong at the end of this video?

  • @ybrik222

Because he works for CBS still. And they are part of the illuminati. It's too late to show Bil Hicks 20+ years later after he snubbed his ass. Oh, he died, Now I'll show it. Fuck that. D. Letterman is just a puppet anyway.

  • Only if Bill Hicks was alive today in 2011 to see how homosexuality is being promoted in Music, T.V, Movies, Billboards. Gay now days is considered "normal" it seems like it.

  • @G0FlyAKite1 It seems to me that Bill wasn't against homosexuality being shown in school books. Rather he was parodying the hypocrisy of guys being okay with Lesbianism but thinking Gays are disgusting.

  • @G0FlyAKite1 You've missed the point entirely.

    Watch it again.

  • @KneeToTheDome

    I see now.

  • it took him 16 years before he aired it! yeah he must have been real sorry. Bill would have ruined him the self righteous prick

  • "Heather's Two Mommies" LOL

  • Yeah, I can see why Letterman chose to not air this. Not funny.

  • @bluegsp lol @ butthurt pro-lifer

  • @madeofhatred "butthurt"? I am delighted that Letterman actually used some decorum and integrity before he lost his mind.

The fate of Hicks was nothing more than Karma.

  • @bluegsp karma?

for spreading a message that we are all one, and we should feel unconditional unending love for everyone else?

or for making fun of corrupt dipfucks tainting our collective consciousness?

i think you don't fully understand the concept of karma.

    let me ask you this.

    are you a fundamentalist christian?

    that might explain the butthurt.

  • @madeofhatred No, for spreading a message of hate and violence and advocating and making light of murder. (Like you by the looks of your username)

Karma-"the force generated by a person's actions held in Hinduism and Buddhism to perpetuate transmigration and in its ethical consequences to determine the nature of the person's next existence" It is no wonder he died horrific death considering the life he lead.

And no, I am not a Christian or religious in any way. Nice try though

  • @bluegsp everything is fair play when it comes to comedy, either its all funny or nothing is funny. comedy is an art, you should know that.

his "comedy of hate" was satirical, as he preeched (in almost every stand up) that we are all one consciousness, and we should love everyone as much as themselves, i think you just don't fully understand his stand-up.

youtube bill hicks - the message.

  • @madeofhatred No it is not, that is why Bill Maher was fired from ABC, why Letterman had to apologize to Sara Palin. A good comedian knows what lines 'not to cross" and the stupid ones don't know that line like Lenny Bruce, Hicks, Maher, etc.

Hicks is not a deep thinker, he is a typical vulgar elitist who has nothing of any value to say, and it says a lot about you that you think that he is.

  • @bluegsp those aren't artists.

those are commercial whores. they lovingly lick the shaft of the FCC (and satan but that is a different story)

now i KNOW you are not familiar with hicks' work.

    enjoy your ignorance

  • @bluegsp seriously though, every line should be crossed, so we can truly evaluate ourselves from a critical light, rather than avoiding thoughts or emotions or words, because it may destroy the childrens' poor virgin ears.

  • @madeofhatred Yes, by crossing a line, that advocates the murder of people, we can evaluate the lack of character of Hicks and judge him to be a low life human being that he is. This is not intellectual discourse or satire, it is "hate speech". Bill Hicks is not an artist, he is a pornographer. The worst kind of charlatan.

You don't even understand the meaning of the word, "Karma", the "ignorance" is yours.

  • @bluegsp clearly this is the only video of bill hicks' i am very familiar with karma, but i say to you that an advocate of eternal love does not have bad karma.

even if he mocks those who sell their souls (i.e. billy ray cyrus)

  • @bluegsp seriously just go look up the message - bill hicks.

    watch it.

realize how wrong you are about bill hicks.

its ok i don't need an apology :)

  • @bluegsp You have to cross the lines of decency, it's how we know we still have them.

  • @bluegsp also if you think that he seriously wants these people to die, you are fucking retarded.

  • @madeofhatred No, I have heard, "the message", and it is pure crap. He curses the great philosophers, advocates drug use, anti-American propaganda, glorifies stupidity, etc.. Only the depraved and intellectually vacuous could find any 'pearls of wisdom' from that crap.

  • @bluegsp Your what i guess people would call "book-smart". But don't worry you probably did well in school, in the sense that you learned what to think and not how to think. Not much of a realist...

  • @ExstaticHigh vulgarity, stupidity and hate is not reality, it is just vulgarity, stupidity and hate. That is all Hicks has to offer, vulgarity, stupidity and hate.

    Grow up.

  • @bluegsp Vulgarity, yes. Hate, pretty much. Stupidity, no.

  • @asdfpersonguy Yeah, his schick is pretty stupid.

  • I don't like Letterman usually, but I do like how he repeatedly says "I" and makes sure that he is taking full responsibility. Fantastic, really.

  • My hat Goes of to Mr Letterman..complete class and sincerity. Jay Leno could use some of that. Thanks for the upload. R.I.P Mr Hicks and thank you.

  • Foo Fighters right at the end ;)

  • He's not being homophobic. He's making fun of homophobia (though, clearly, the idiots cheering in the audience don't get that).

  • It strikes me as ironic that they start playing The Pretender at the end...

  • 3:58 idiots in the audience cheering and you can see on his face how disappointed he gets

  • @finkeLpro it's called timing

  • @bennissimov They were cheering what the joke was against. I don't see what timing has to do with anything. He could have done the exact same thing but gotten boos if there were smart people in the audience. That would probably make the joke even funnier.

  • @finkeLpro the whole point was to make the audience believe that's what he's saying. then he flips it after the long pause.

  • @finkeLpro he's not disappointed that they cheered, hes in the middle of the act, expressing his disappointment about the grotesque "my daddys roommate" book. its just a facial expression thats part of his act.

  • @finkeLpro they were agreeing with his joke...

  • @mikecappa so his joke was that those books are absolutely disgusting? doooon't think soooooo

  • @finkeLpro i doooooo think soooooo

  • @finkeLpro notice his "face" as he introduces the book, do you really think he wrote and performed that piece just to get that reaction just to get dissapointed?

  • @finkeLpro you must be a bitter homosexual

  • @mikecappa well, i'm not. I'm only someone who agrees with Bill Hicks and not with idiots in a Letterman-crowd

  • @finkeLpro ok... well you're wrong lol i'm just trying to show you why. bill hicks said he found it disgusting, you agree, the audience agreed. and you're still confused. watch it again a few times buddy.

  • sexist and homophobic. thats right.

  • @celestialsuicide Yeah, hard to keep the balance right?

  • I thought this was some of his best stuff, Awesome!

  • I see nothing wrong or controversial about this video. And they are creating books for kids about same sex relationships. This is an improvement, because if kids are aware of all types of people and relationships, they won't make fun of choices others make that they don't understand, or when they do discuss this with an adult, the adult won't sway them with their prejudice.

  • October 1993 I started to notice my father had gained a lot of weight. He was slowing down and I thought he was straining to breathe. 1994 my mother was diagnosed with cancer three weeks after Mother's Day. Six months later my father died one month after his 65th birthday that year. April in 1995 my mom was gone. That was a hard year for us all.

  • Hicks can be great. He invented modern stand-up comedy or at least a hundred or so careers......but I can see why Letterman pulled it - homophobia is unworthy of Hicks' fine mind and spiritual generosity and the Billy Ray Cyrus stuff is bilious without much else. Not Bill's finest hour.

  • @mathnawi21 Bill said that Letterman pulled it cos of Pro Life part , something about marketing and stuff

  • @ste666fan Right on, there was a pro-life advert which ran in the ad-break of this show, according to Bill. He talks about it on the Austin public access tv interview.

  • @mathnawi21 He wasn't being homophobic, he was pointing out a double standard with the "Heather's Two Mommies" joke.

  • @mathnawi21 He wasn't *being* homophobic... that joke was *skewering* homophobia. It's just that certain thick audience members didn't get it. He was sending up the irony in a lot of people's (mostly straight men's) opinion that male homosexuality is gross but female homosexuality is titillating.

  • letterman did a great job there. a sincere apology. his audience however, imbeciles.
