God Wes, I was watching this video, and at about 4:42, chills went through my spine. And I sat here at my chair and said out loud "YES!" Then I watched the next 10 seconds, and I said "YES!" again.
As I like to say, "it's not [necessarily] what you're eating, rather, it's what's eating you." As soon as you can figure out & solve that, the weight will fall off.
However with WLS, you only work on the physical, not the emotional, and you're destined to gain it back.
Well said. I know I have an addiction and am using wls as a way to deal with that addiction. Counseling is part of the process. Life is a struggle for everyone. No one's life is easy, be they rich, poor, fat or thin. You can't really know what a person is dealing with unless you walk in their shoes. Congrats on your success without wls.
I personally wouldnt attack someone who had WLS. But I personally would not opt for it. I currently weigh 243 lbs, and I could have the surgery if i wanted to. But i would never even think about it because I need to learn myself.
IMO i think many people do WLS and they don't deal with the emotions and issues that got them fat in the first place. They have the surgery then regret having it or get depressed. Even resenting people who can eat a normal meal.
Great video! I agree that WLS is solving the wrong problem! I think many of us are too quick to blame our bodies - "My metabolism is broken" "I just can't lose weight" "It's genetic." I personally believe that our bodies are amazing machines, trying desperately to keep us healthy! But our bodies can only respond to the stimuli we input - if you're not losing weight, you're not giving your body the right signals, and that's a problem in thoughts and behaviors!
I think a lot of us are loose lipped online because it's easier to be behind a screen. I think most of what is said back and forth wouldn't be said face to face, but the nature of the internet makes people brave to be extremely bold, on both sides.
and yes surgery doesn't fix the mental issues with food...We all have to deal with our mental issues no matter how we lose weight. I had weight loss surgery and I have/am changing my relationship with food and it can be done WITH having surgery. Just as we shouldn't attack other for having an opposing opinion....we shouldn't be attacked for chosing to have weight loss surgery....Thanks for weighing in
We are all entitled to our opinion, but we may need to watch how we deliver that opinion. However,I don't think anyone should have been personally attacked on either "side". You are right that there is a more polite way to put things.
Interesting. It seems that most overweight people give the excuse that their obesity is caused by a physical condition. I have always felt that it is a mental kind of thing too! As far as the haters go, they are usually the ones that have never put a video on youtube. They have probably never even given a public speech or even written a paper for public opinion. They are like little termites that eat at the construction of our dreams.
