@TABBYFINSTAH No, that's Jeff Campitelli. Pretty good drummer but he's no Neil Peart. All he has to do is show up and let Joe Satriani (Belichick) do all the work.
@TABBYFINSTAH Yeah, Tom Brady is getting to be a pretty good field general. I would love to see the Broncos win this week but I gotta go with the Pats 31-17
@catshavesouls I'm really torn about that game... I love Tebowing but yeah I think the Pats will win too. By the way it's funny how we're predicting football scores on a video of an animation of a drummer XD
what i don't get about modern day "music" is: how the hell do people relate to it if "artists" try to rime rather than transmit a solid message through the song???!!!! Im obviously speaking of mainstream artists. If you REALLY like a song, its because you can relate to what its saying. I mean... Subdivisions... come on!!!!
unfortunately for rush, with todays public they don't stand a chance because 3 things:
1) people these days listen to shit... literally. I don't know how they come up with lyrics these days... "kick it in the back seat, kick it in the front seat..." I mean... WTF?!
2) critics back then, most of them, didn't get their music, from a musical standpoint (not lyrical), so they would bash the band with bad "press"
3) Rock and roll hall of fame hates prog rock... dicks...
@PrinceofAvalon you should really consider watching Beyond the Lighted Stage for a really good insight on the band. I LOVE RUSH!!!!! and IM alone and 17 and the people in my class pay no attention to music... rather the "thing" that people listen to these days.
@PrinceofAvalon the reason why they are now are two things. Rush is by far the most talented band ever. the record industry doesn't like it when a group does thing there own way. and finally rush is not a band played on the radio much. if the band made it to the canadian verion of the hall in no time why can Rush be in the US version???? it's a crying shame to see rush get all the respect but no hall omg they have a star on the hollywood walk of fame now.
Well, perhaps because Rush do not need to be in any kind of hollywoodian "hall of fame". This is perhaps good for the typical mediocre pop around, but for Rush this would be a complete underrating of their work and influence.
Just imagine: Rush in the same monument as all that "... style without substance", and "... stuff without style..."
So, perhaps it is a good idea to keep them outside all that kind of fashion.
Yes, exactly, my friend. (If I may call you that.)
And I think that their talent is always appreciated by all who love music at all, instead of some kind of Monday production being thrown on our faces by TV shows and Hollywood spectacles. (You know what I am talking about, ey? ;-))
They contributed so much to modern music that you can readily hear their chords in so many songs of our times..
I think that Rush is a phenomenon by itself, so we just let it be.
Now I said Peart was over rated and you go a step further and call him a "dickhead"...thats mean spirited...just comment on his average skills and dont get personal with him...I mean maybe he is a jerk and all but you dont have to call him names girlfriend.
Be open minded. We live in a make beleive world. This video is awsome. Most of you have no idea of the time it takes to make this kind of video ( I do)
As for drumming, I won the Canadian National Championships back in 1982. I can tell you that there is no beter drummer than Neil. Leave the drumming behind and look at the artist. That, I know.
@40cub I know the guy that made this video.. it took him months to coordinate the video with the sound. He taught himself how to do the computer animation.. he did not go to school for it. this video is not only a tribute to Neil Pert adn Rush but shows the months of dedication and determination of a single person. He now does free lance work for ESPN and Notional Geographic and was fetured in Modern Drummer mag and the Washington Post newspaper.
Yeah it must be tough to be a drummer when you cant miss...i mean common...he has got a 145 piece drum set.....i would like to see him try and hit the skinz on a 5 piece like ringo.
@spm1021 he can play on any size of a drumset. and ringo played 4 pieces mostly. but he can play on anything he wants. ive seen him play songs like yyz on a 4 piece drum set before. dont say bad things about stuff you dont know.
Amazing... My Favourite band for more then 30 yrs now and i am finally gonna get the chance to see them live. They are coming to Ireland for the 1st time in May and I have my Tkts purchased. Oh yes i agree that there are 92 crackhead, Emptyhead, Twatheads in cyberspace.
There is some symbolism in this i dont know if i was the only one to notice but hes on water and God can walk on water if Neil drums on water hes a drum GOD
I'm going to say I know how this song is played. AND this clip has a PERFECT performance... I mean, the animation really hits every correct drum and same patterns. And if you look with detail you can see muscle movements and tensions (and illumination and shadow change) in every movement.
This is so cool, I need to flush my head in the toilet to come back to reality. Awesome job!!! Long live Neil, Geddy, and Alex (They're not too bad for a bunch of Canadiens.... HA)!!!
Mr Peart is such a phenomenal percussionist. Bonham, Moon and Portnoy are nothing by comparison, and I say that as an experienced drum critic.

@spm1021 your retarded. drummers like joey jordison are overrated. neil is one of the best drummers to live. hes mastered numerous techniques and styles. try learning a few songs and then tell me if hes overrated.
I just want to say that rush is the greatest band who has ever lived because they taught me that if i keep practicing i could be as good as them one day.... there music is so inspiring, Thank You Rush for never giving up on making music =)
In response to (metallicakixtotalass)'s comment. There is also a big difference between a good drummer, and a percussionist. Neil Peart "The Professor", exceeds them all as a complete percussionist. Even though YYZ is an excellent instrumental, it isn't one of his best kit job's by far... Thank you RUSH, for some of the best years in music .....
Gavin Harrison is by far the best rock drummer in the world. The guy uses his feet as hands and has incredible technical skills and cannot be imitated.
not only drums but gongs, cowbells, glockenspiels, etc---I don't even consider Neal Peart a mere drummer but a PERCUSSIONIST---and a hell of a writer too, not just from his lyrics but after reading other works that he has written. And to see his skill in person is a real treat!
@skinnersboy You sir, are insane. Neil Peart is one of the most well-respected and influential drummers of all time, and it's not just me who says that. While I agree it is impossible to say any musician is "the best", Peart is indeed one of the greats. He's been creating music with Rush since the early 70s and has, during all that time, taken a conscientious approach to his art. Your comments, I think, have the taste like sour grapes.
@skinnersboy it is in its bollox only in the double kick u asshole he has some of the most creative beats and solos known to man,not to mention catchy or very strange perth is unreal
I like Mike Mangini also and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. I do not know who is best but I can tell you with great certainty that one of Portnoys' greatest influences was Peart. I have seen Rush 7 times... 6 times b4 Permanent Waves was released.
Peart is certainly AMONG the best drummers who have ever lived, especially when you are talking about technique. But then there are different STYLES of playing that may appeal to some more than others. I saw a drummer in an instrumental rock band at Austin's SXSW music conference. He played the drums in a way I had NEVER seen before. His playing was totally unique. Wish I got the guy's name!
@jaybone23 a double bass pedal is all this guy brings to the table...its sorta like sliced bread...beacause you never seen it before you think its the greatest thing ever...dont get me wrong...he can keep a beat but thats about it.
@skinnersboy I understand you have the right to your own opinion, and i respect that, but the comments you have made just don't make sense it's almost like you have never heard Neil Peart even play, or you have absolutely no knowledge of drumming at all. That's my opinion. Oh! and yes there are alot of great drummers out there. Check out Steve Smith!
It took the person that made this, I think about 7 yrs to make. Now that is dedication. And Neal Peart is the Drum GOD of the Universe. Has a fracking PHD in Precussions.
they are trying to achieve absolutly nothing, they are doing because they can...i would do it if i had the skill...so i suppose thats what it does for me. love Rush, nice video turn on a classic track... :)
now add Geddy and Alex and you will have something

its all in the double bass pedal...its what made him appear so great..hes a good drummer...but the best?? I dont think so.

Nice, you got the hi-hat part animated correctly. A lot of people think Neil just plays the off-beat. Good job.

Great rendering :O
I like Mike Mangini also and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. I do not know who is best but I can tell you with great certainty that one of Portnoys' greatest influences was Peart. I have seen Rush 7 times... 6 times b4 Permanent Waves was released.
