  • this guy doesn't know what he's demoing on

  • XAXAXA FAIL :D

  • the smOOUke isnt animated rofl

  • my laptop is a dell vostro 1720 Intel core 2 duo 2.4 ghz 3 gig of ram and Nvidia GeForce 9600M GS 512mb. i can play cod4 on this at max settings.

  • @banhotsu yea dude...thats no where near as fast as a ps3

and to play COD4 on max settings isn't that big a accomplishment. Try playing Metro 2033.

  • @lenmetallica fuck my laptop i sold it. my new pc can play metro 2033 on max settings 1080p

  • @banhotsu nice, whats the specs?

  • @lenmetallica Amd Phenom 2 965. 4gb 1333 mhz ram. 1tb hdd. gtx 470 gigabyte SUPER OC (607-700 MHZ) Haf 922 case :3

  • Games are going to be so awesome, Im gonna be a gamer till I die.

  • lol, thats my name

  • is that 3d??

  • @kurogane2x yea

  • Everyone never really understood what nvidia is made for....

ATI is focused only (only) on speed. But NVIDIA FOCUSES on physX and SPEED. Thats why sometimes nvidia lags behind ATI in terms of speed but the real story is that game experience is best experience with PHYSX enabled.

So to all the ATI fan boys out there, arent you going to envy PHYSX gaming which your proud card cant render? So why choose radeon 5870 or the even i dont care version of 5970 when it cant support Physx gaming?

  • @malcohm2004 Well, ATI can't support Physx because it's Nvidia's property, and they would never let them support it for the sake of even competition.

  • @malcohm2004 You do realize that no one cares about PysX. I know it's a good idea, but ATI beats Nvidia in power by so much that it really doesn't matter, especially considering few games actually use Pysx.

  • look at this fan boy war, bunch of girls, ffs, just get what you want and play the games, jeez

  • Fermi is ok, but the PS3 7-core Cell processor is still more powerful. Nice try Nvidia, but PS3 still wins. The Fermi Triple SLI will struggle with Unchartered 2.

  • @jprincehouston You can't be serious... The PS3 has no where near the rendering capabilities of the 480, and what you're describing is the processing unit, which is garbage and the main reason that so many PS3 ports run like crap and have bad visuals.

  • @jprincehouston still pc owns all consoles =)

  • @ADEZK yeah right, for 20X price !

  • @cp120x but still owns them

  • @ADEZK Yep... Got to admit !

  • @cp120x my laptop is better than a ps3 and only for 1.7x the price :)

  • @banhotsu

I wonder what kind of laptop you own ? I have a Dell D630 with a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135 512MB, Duo T7500 2.2GHZ with 4GB of RAM and frankly... It's a real pain to play COD4 on this machine even at 640X480 ! I paid $1800 for this laptop which is 6X the tag price of my PS3... The only thing It's good to play with is Runescape !

  • @cp120x You have a workstation card, the Quadros are not intended for gaming.

  • @cp120x lol idiot you spent 1800 dollars on a machine that CANNOT PLAY GAMES with the intention of PLAYING GAMES.

Bwahaha, typical noob PC user with more money than brains.

QUADRO = 3D rendering work. It is useless for video games. My geforce 6200 that is currently sitting in a bin has more gaming power than your quadro.

  • @MastaSquidge Jealous ! LOL ;)

  • @cp120x Dude, i spent 1400 on my desktop, and it can play far cry 2 at full max settings with 4x AA at 50-80 fps.

I am in no way jealous of someone who bought a laptop with a workstation card and cant play cod 4 at 640x480. But thanks for trying.

  • @MastaSquidge nvidia geforce gts 250 (1Gb), 4 Gb of RAM DDR3, Intel core i5 and gigabyte (blah blah blah numbers numbers numbers )motherboard-------> i think i can play farcry 2 (max settings) too.... :P

  • @TimisoaraCoolMixers... In case you have a hard fucking time reading, I am not speaking to you.

I am speaking to the guy with the 1800 dollar laptop that cant play COD4 on the lowest possible settings.

BTW, a GTS 250 has really really terrible performance on far cry 2. Unless you play at a low resolution, you arent getting more than 40 fps on ultra, with 25 average.

How do I know this? I ran an overclocked 9800 GTX. In case you were not aware previously, a GTS250 is a rebranded 9800 GTX.

  • @banhotsu i don't believe your laptop is faster than a ps3. get real.

  • @FedoraFTW well. my new pc is :)

  • physx technology will only optimize these games on invidia cards, thats why I'm buying my first nvidia card this week. They've realy taken off the gloves now. When PhysX release the rights to sony and microsoft,(ps4/xbox 720), ATI will be cut out of the loop, ie, Fucked.

  • @sonic45325 Actually, no, CUDA (including the PhysX libraries) and ATI Stream will tend to be left behind since now we have universal standards like OpenCL and DirectCompute. Sony and Microsoft do not have reasons to license PhysX if there a pefectly fine and free physics option like DirectCompute. And neither do the game developers.

  • where i live 480 and 5970 is nearly same price. i have a 285 now. which one to by? 5970 or 480 ?

  • @mrbigtime81 480 is just a bit better than a 5870.

    A 5970 is basically 2 5870s strapped together.

You should definately buy the 5970

  • @mrbigtime81 I'd save some money and get a 5870 or 5770. If they cost the same I would probably get the 5970 because it kills the 480 in DX10 games. But for DX11 480 does do better tessellation, but the raw power of two GPUs in the 5970 allows it to tessellate at a simillar or faster speed. So overall I'd go ATI.

  • HAHA system crashed... camera pans down....

  • Thanks for the feedback. certainly did some more homework on this. The latest reviews are showing 25 Degrees difference under load. With 1 CARD! With 2 thats going to get much worse. So I didnt have a choice. ordered 2 x 5870 2gb toxic last week. Looking forward to getting em.

  • You guys know that your comparing ATI that has 2 GPUS in one graphics card, and nVidia that has 1 GPU in a graphics card. Nice balance.

  • looks like the game crashed xD

  • Computers still have a long way to go to accurately resemble physics.

  • @OM3N1R Agree.

  • I guess basically, I have just lost faith in Nvidia after 2 of my most recent cards died due to the same video memory heat damage issue despite them running well within the supposed design heat limits. Indeed, they cased graphical artifacts etc well under the marketed heat tolerance. I have the same problem with the replacement 295 I have today. I was lucky to avoid heat damage with the faulty driver as I do have a habit of testing the beta drivers out (not anymore) I will wait I think.

  • The heat is a no goo for me. I live in Brazil and it's always hot here (Rio average is warm 28º C or 82.4º F).

  • 2:55

    This thing is falling.. :D

  • Personally I am looking for an upgrade to my 295. Given the heat from the 480s I find I cannot stay Nvidia going forward. Already had to return the 2 x 285s I had because of heat damage corrupting the memory. (Asus did give me a pretty much immediate refund to be fair) But I would need 2 480s for it to be around the same as a 5970. The heat profile is a joke. I dont have water in that particular machine. Tempted to just get a 5970. Been dual manufacturer for 4 years. So a real shame

  • lol. look at all the ati fanboys here. they are so happy cause the demo crashed in the end. like it cannot be fixed..

  • And the demo crashes lol.

  • Nvidia milked the market with the 8000 cards...then tried to milk it even more with the release of the "new" 9000 series which was just a smaller die version of 8000 series.

Nvidia remained in its comfort zone and redeveloped their technology for the 200 series. But got caught on their heels when ATI released the 4000 and 5000 cards. Nvidia has had to redesign their tech 3 times because of the lack of headroom in their cards, lack of flexibility and running old hardware in their cards.

  • Its a pretty sad showing TBH. All the reviews I have seen, the 5870 rocks this card. Only when you turn up to 8x AA does the performance favour the Nvidia card.

I would say ATI is on top at the moment simply because their 5870 single chip video card steam rolls the 295 dual chip Nvidia card.

  • the gtx 480 needs 600watts

  • LMAO.. Is That Physics?!

... na dude ur PC jus crashed!!!

    how emmm-baaa-raaa-sinnggg!!!

  • Radeon 5770 requires a 450 watt power suply... it doesnt even compare to the GT 240 on any scale.. the 5770 is an enthusiest GPU.

and the 5670 compares to a 9800 GT. they both requir same power supply. and coast the same.

name one Radeon GPU that requirs a 300 watt power suply and beats the GT 240 wich can play Crysis on High to very high graphics.

IDC what you say you can make your GPU magically handle. I want one Radeon GPU that says on the Box 300 watt supply or greater that beats GT 240

  • 5770 is not an enthusiast card. That's the 5800-line. It's a gamer's card, so it has good performance, but not great. The GT 240 is a step below gamer...I don't know how you get it to play high to very high settings on Crysis except at 480p, since that's asking a lot out of cards even three times more expensive.

That said, nVidia with its GTS 250 still has a strong hold on value, but the GTX line is horrid right now...

  • Well I can play Crysi on Very High with a 1024 by 763 res no aa on the GTX 260m

and Crysis War head on Enthusiast with full res.

    GTX 260m = 9800 GT.. GT 240 is 30% less powerful then 9800 GT.

    you do the math.

  • oh god lol it crashed!

  • the GT 240 and GT 340 are better then Radeon because they only require a 300 watt power supply wear as a Radeon GPU with the same performance would require a 400 or 450 watt power supply.

if you can't see that your just a nut case Radeon Fan Boy. I have done my research on this one. Radeon has nothing to compete.

Radeon might be winning on the Enthusiast end of things with the 5000 line. but not the mid range mid and high range end.

ohhh and wtf is with You tube and comments messed up...

  • gt240 and 340 are relabeled nvidia 9800gtx...

  • no they arent... 9800 GTX has 128 cores

GT 240 has 98 cores. but the GT 240 is an amazing card for only requiring a 300 watt power suply.

  • same core-less shaders..

  • my god all of what you said is just ignorant and retarded im not even lying

my radeon 5770 can run just fine on a 300 watt psu which also powers a AMD athlon 2 x4(quad core) and 6 gb of ddr2 ram

wattage is not the only thing where ATI has improved over Nvidia, and thats sheer compute power, and PRICE

ATI is not only winning on the enthusiast section but pretty much everywhere else from the 5970 to the 5570

  • you obviously don't have a 300 watt power suply in your computer. because I have tried putting Video cards that require higher wattages and the computer just shuts down. Radeon and Nvidia cards I am talking about.

your wrong Nvidia has the best cards cause they are the most energy efficent.

on the mid and high end of things

and the GTX 470 will = the 5870 for the same price

and the GTX 480 will be better and coast a reasonable $500.

Pop goes the Ego xD. not today fanboy

  • Apparently I am inclined to burst your bubble again.

    Nvidia co-authored DX11.

Nvidia is worth more than AMD and ATI combined.

Nvidia has a 90%+ market share in the professional design market through their top end design cards.

You should probably know that ATI is worth 70% less than when AMD bought them. Both companies have lost so much money, that they're in the negative.

We'll see if they bankrupt in the next 5 years. I hope not, because the competition is good.

  • amd should make their own uber 3 billion transistor 28 nanometer card.

  • ati sux

  • Is it necessary show your blinking shit under the keyboard? poor

  • simple, people dont like nvdia because for the performance to price ratio, ati is the clear winner. Nvidia is way too overpriced AND their new gtx 400's series are late in the game which were suppose to release back in 09 around xmas. They might outperform ati's current leading card but by the time they do, ati 6000's will probably be out by then or in the process.

  • 400 series is a jump ahead of the 5000 series, the 300 series is already out but mostly used for laptops and still more powerful than the 5000 series , ati has the shities drivers out there , that is one of the biggest reasons ati does nt win vs nvidia. the 6000 series will the the competitor to the 400

  • lol the 300 series better against the 5000?!?!? is nvidia paying you to spread this bullshit?! or you just dont know the true power of Hemlock.

  • Nvidia's GT 300 line only takes a 300 watt power suply includeing the GT 340. the GT 340 has 94 cores and doubles any radeon GPU that takes a 300 watt power suply. and the GT 340 is only 100 dollars.

Nvidia now has the best performing enthusiast single GPU.

I Don't understand why people don't like Nvidia.

  • @Nomad2243

the Gt 340 is only a rebrand of the old 8800 and 9800. even the radeon hd 5750 and 5770 are way better.

I dont like nvidia because they FAKED FERMI!!! at CES

  • @rhun664 Agree, that was a fake. Nvidia did it in the past, tweaking drivers and faking demos.

  • You should know that Heaven 1.1 is the pre-release public version 2.0.

Saying that it's fake is stupid and makes you look bad.

  • @mhaneline way to fail mate, you're clueless as ugly, I was talking about CES IMBECILE!! shut the fuck up, that ugly face really makes you look bad MoFo

  • The only fail here is your comment. It made about as much sense as an ol dirty bastard song.

  • @mhaneline fuck off Nvidia fanboy, go stuck your fail card up your ass and shut up

  • lol what a hater. If ATI made faster cards and the drivers didn't suck, I would buy one. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

  • GTX480 benchmarks are out. almost 20% faster. Did you cry yet?

  • @mhaneline nope, I'm not buthurt like you, selling your ass to afford one!! I have more than enough to buy 2 or 3 for SLI ....so go back to your cock sucking, mofo!!

  • Your mouth officially tastes like your foot.

  • @mhaneline iuuuuck I don't remember you kissing me fucking homo!!! go away!! shut the fuck up!!!

  • .........

that was officially the most retarded comment I have ever read. ever.

  • @mhaneline sadly, very sadly, you're not the worst fanboy I ever meet, a complete retard, but not the worst, so you can be happy!! now get lost once and for all will ya?

    p.s. fuck you :)

  • Don't be a hater. Nvidia came out with a better card. That's no reason for you to be a fucking asshole.

  • @mhaneline yeah, and I'm buying it because I can, my problem isn't Nvidia or they cards, they have a tendency to fake benchmarks and demos, but either you're too young or stupid to know it, so go back to your GeForce 7100 and keep dreaming about having a Fermi will ya?? :)

    p.s.: fuck you again

  • When did I say I wasn't buying one or couldn't afford to buy one?

As for "faked" demos, you should know, most of the products at CES are fake. They have the real model in the computer running the demo, but the samples that they have on display aren't real. Maybe you didn't know? Either way, the GTX480 beats the 5870, and that's my point.

  • @mhaneline wow that's nice, good for you!! are you happy? (actually the real thing seems impossible for you to understand because of your terrible low IQ, but I gave up already) have a happy day!! Happy gaming!! see ya!

    P.S.:again and again Fuck You!!!

  • gtx480 sure is faster than ati 5870 ( 10-15% faster) but it will cost 500 dollars and it will run at 105c.... you can not justify it's performance for the price/power consumption of it.

    nvidia has lost this round.

  • lol @ 105c. The 5870 is 6c cooler than the GTX480. 6c difference at max load is trivial.

Power consumption is 255W on a large die. When they shrink the die to 40nm, the power consumption and heat will go way down, as always.

The real point here is that while ATI modified their existing 4xxx architecture, Nvidia completely redesigned theirs. ATI is at or near the peak of their architecture, while Nvidia's Fermi has just begun. I don't expect a fanboy to think about long-term architecture though

  • so like i said nvidia has lost this battle, maybe next time they can come up with something better but for now ati is rocking their boat.

  • slower != better.

ATI screwed themselves by modifying their 4xxx architecture, because it's at or near capacity. They can only add so many pipes and cores. Fermi is a totally redesigned architecture, just like when Intel released the Pentium and AMD was still selling the 486 chip a year later.

New architecture wins in the long run. Fermi is already faster, without a 40nm die shrink and initial release drivers. The only way ATI will be able to complete is with a new architecture in the future.

  • @mhaneline why you don't compare it with a 5870 ?.

  • I did compare the GTX480 to the 5870. The GTX480 is 13-19% faster on average.

  • @mhaneline Thats wierd, I was a reading a magazine review last week and they said a 5% difference in one particular benchmark. If it was 20% I would live with the extra heat and get it. But I fear your comment may be misleading. I have seen around 5% from 3 different sources now. Given that they are 2 hot to use in one case without water I probably have no choice but to get a 5970

  • @Makadonska27 One benchmark isn't enough. Go to hardwarecanucks, tomshardware, 3dguru.. any of the top web sites. You'll see between 17-20% average faster performance than a 5870.

In a couple of tests, the 480 actually beat the 5970. Good thing one benchmark isn't enough, right?

Also keep in mind that they're using beta drivers. We all know Nvidia cards get at least 10% faster after the drivers mature. That will be 27-30% faster.

Also, the heat.. the 480 is only 6c higher. Big woopie! 6c!

  • @mhaneline This was one I reading then, I have seen others. Not sure why people get emotional about faceless corporations. Personally I just want the best product. Right now, I am pretty disappointed with Nvidia for a number of reasons but I will wait a few months before upgrading the second machine. I have also have much more significant heat problems than the 6 degrees you mention even with my 295 and previously the 2 x 285s and the new cards are hotter still. Its not acceptable to me.

  • @Makadonska27 If you buy a 5870 and a gtx 480 and run them both at 100% in a 25c room, there will be a 6c difference. If that is not acceptable to you, then I'm sorry. It's obviously acceptable for Nvidia, because they designed them to run at that temperature.

If you have a hot case or a hot room, maybe you should get a water cooled version? You wouldn't have to worry about the temperatures then.

  • @mhaneline Think about what your saying here. Your actually contradicting your own point so you will forgive me if I doubt your credibility as a reference. You seen to keen to support Nvidia. I may buy their products but I dont like them as a company. I just pay my money and take my chances using the best information available. 20% better performance than a 5870 yet faster than a 5970. Doesnt even make sense at any level. I havent seen anything like that anywhere either.

  • @Makadonska27 you can read the hardwarecanucks review for proof. they did an average min and max FPS from 10 games at various resolutions, AA settings etc, and in a few tests, it beat the 5970. Go read the 480 review on hardwarecanucks before you bother responding to me please.

  • @Makadonska27 19% gain on minimum frame rates... 13% on average frame rates... about 5% for max frames.

  • 6c diff? where are you getting your info at.... u better check your sources again.

  • It's up to you to believe the truth or scoff at it. 6c at idle and 7c at max are the recorded values using a Silverstone Raven RV02 case. The temps dropped 2c when using a Antec 1200 case but both cards stayed 6-7c apart.

Don't be a hater just because you don't understand why a completely new architecture is important.

Lastly, faster is faster. 20% faster on average is beast. Don't be sad.

  • I do understand about new architecture but what i want to know if where are you reading all this...

give me your source of information don't just copy and paste.

  • I didn't copy and paste anything. Go google if you want to know more. It's not my job to provide things for you.

I will say that if you want to know more about the new architecture and why it's so important for the future of gaming, just google "Fermi architecture" and you'll pull up the official Nvidia whitepaper. Read it. If you don't understand it, then tough luck.

  • 20% faster my ass. Latest benchmarks list it at 10-15%. You talk about other people being fanboys when you have so many comments defending this piece of garbage. Excuses. You're alone.

  • 13% min FPS 19% max fps delta on average from 10 games, and that's on pre-release beta drivers. We all know cards get at least 10% faster once the drivers mature, so we're really looking at 23-29% faster.

If ATI's card was faster, I would be advocating them, but they aren't. You can take your fanboy comment and stick it.

  • Very well put.

Also you must remember that the Fermi architecture is showing a SLI scaling of OVER 90%.

Also the number of developers picking up the Nivida features has increased hugely and we will see the result of this soon.

PHYSX, CUDA and 3D VISION. all run with TINY performance hit on the Fermi. and make the game look very nice.

  • My 5870 runs at 80c at max load, and that's not a 6c difference from what benchmarks are listing.

ATI's architecture works, that's why they use it. Would you change the design of the wheel? Fermi is already dead. nVidia will be looking to make something new next line.

  • 89c < 95c = 6c delta

ATI's architecture is at or near peak. You can only add so many pipes, cores, and so much memory in to one chip. That's what they've been doing since 3xxx.

  • Fuck youtube!

Why can im not post a comment?

  • Can any LEGIT PERSON TELL ME IF ITS WORTH TO WAIT FOR THAT THING ??? IAM A MILLIONAIRE

  • wait for it , it will be worth it mor ethan ou can imagine , comeing from a computer builder , i would nver put an ati card in a system , too hot , bad drivers , multiple card solutions are better with nvidia , and lots more

  • wish i did that with only 1 card lol

  • and once the mature drivers come out for the GTX 400 line you will be impressed.

  • @Nomad2243 By that time, we would be more impressed by the 6870 refresh.

  • @Nomad2243

Haha! Yes nvidia still sux big time

  • I didn't see any Radeon Fan's go and change to Nvidia when the GT 200 line came out just cause it was faster then the Radeon 4000 line. neither will the Nvidia fans. for the 5000 line.

  • people this is fucking stupid.. stop arguing about GPU's. buy whatever you want. I am going to buy a GTX 480 in 1 years when it goes down to 1/2 of its original price. screaming in peoples faces what GPU is the best isn't going to change what they want to buy.

I like Nvidia.. it is the company I am sticking with.

  • @Nomad2243

    Yes one card cost 700$

  • lol i like how it crashed

  • only billionaires will buy gtx 480 -_-

  • It's gonna be 640$

  • thats funny how ATI FANBOYS cry cuz they wasted money on crap hd5970 and cant play upcoming games haha

  • @dekaron777 idiot the 5970 will play any upcoming games, even tho its too much money when a 5870 does just fine, so stop being an Nvidia fanboy, and see the facts to what each card can do. im both an nvidia and ati fan, i have had both ati and nvidia cards, and personally i find ati to be more smooth and better performance for your money.

  • "more smooth"

    No.

    "better performance for your money"

In the past, yes. And you'll most likely be right with the new line. I don't see a reason beyond ATI beating the pants off nVidia in sales (due to available technology at retail) right now for nVidia to change its pricing.

-- signed, realistic nVidia fanboy. ATI's almost got me, though. :)

  • @jizzmatic2000 well im just saying with my experience with both high end cards from both manufactuers, ati has always run more smoothly in games with better FPS. equivalent cards aswell, i now have the ASUS Radeon 4850 HD, and i have compared it both to the GT260 and 8800GTS. and its still better fps then both, very close with the 260 though.

  • @dekaron777

Hhaha Nvidia fanboys cry cuz this sh*tty card cost 1680$ :D

    Nvidia = Price

Ati = Performance for your money.

  • why not?

  • i hope i can download this for benchmark.

  • at the end "this thing has crashed" hhhahaha

  • @gigabit942007 it sure did crash....makes you wonder if they fully tested it

  • @keiki646 i don't think they had enough time maybe ATi really hit the jackpot with the HD5xxx series and nvidia didn't expected this to happen

  • yup! heheh

  • The GF 100 will ruin ATI if NVIDIA is smart enough to sell it a little cheaper than 5970.

  • i lol at u cos they wont they alrady did spend over 1 000 000$ on that card and its not haf ready

  • maybe maybe not, one could hazard a guess that because ATI has a monopoly in the Enthusiast set of graphics cards FOR THE TIME BEING, they probably are jacking up the prices, once the Big guns from Nvidia roll out regardless of how they price them ATI will surely probably pull the 5970 down from its current 700 USD price mark to probably around 600/550 it wouldn't surprise me at all honestly, ATI/AMD have never been a company to compete point for point in performance but bang for the buck.

  • @maitrelame2 well I'm not trying to be a smartass just stating the facts. Stop trolling lol :) ATI FTW

  • I have decided this is a Re-tarted conversation.

go watch the olympics, or play Crysis or something.

Once the GF 100 line comes out I will give you fan boys such shit about it.

I Remember when I was laughing about the GTX 200 line cards.... for a full year well Radeon sat on there ass.

    xD.

  • Comment removed

  • Go get a 5970 this dual gpu owns nvidias current dual gpu "equivelant" the 295 and atis best single gpu the 5870 is on par with nvidias 295 just check out the bencmarks

  • Different generations, stop trying to be a smart ass there is a 1 year difference between the 5000 series and the GT200 series...

  • and as far as I am concerned.

    36 fps vs 60

    113 vs 130 FPS

you can't even tell. the difference. I would rather save $200 dollars and get a GTX 295. I would'nt even notice the difference for any game out in the world so far.

and the GTX 295 only gets 36 FPS on Crysis war head if its at 16x aa and a massive res. so there really is no need for a more powerful GPU then the GTX 295 so far.

maby in 3 years when more modern games come out.

  • Why would you ever get a GTX295 when it is a hairdryer?

  • Hears why I would get a GTX 295.

It doesn't requir as high as a power suply.

    its $200 dollars less expensive

its sold more commonly at stores I wouldn't half to order it online.

it gets perfect performance on every single game out in the world with max graphics and aa and a huge resolution.

once you get to a certain Frams per second you don't even notice a boost in performance.

thus the 5970 is a huge waste of money right now.

    maby in 3 years..

but in 3 years I will get a GTX 480.

  • @Nomad2243

    Incorrect.

    1. GTX295 and 5970 both use 1x 8 pin and 1x 6 pin connectors so the power draw for both cards is around but <300watts. The power requirements will be exactly the same for both cards.

    2. GTX295 costs $500, 5970 costs $600 = $100 difference.

    3. 5970 performs ~ 70% better than the GTX295 in some games, and over ~40% better across the scale. 20% more expensive but much better.

    4. 5970 supports eyefinity, dx11.

There is no reason to get a GTX295 whatsoever.

  • 3 years? its set to release next month

  • No, the GTX295 does not average 60 FPS at crysis 1920x1200, not even with 4xAA or even 2.

Or you could get a 5870 which:

    * Is even cheaper

    * Eats so little power compared to the 295

    * Is two generations beyond on DX (DX11 & DX10.1 vs DX10.0)

    * Performs almost similarly

The 5970 is a waste of money in my opinion, but the GTX295 is even more of a waste.

    * Eyefinity

    * etc etc etc

  • Yes the 5870 is the only GPU I actualy like by Radeon. But I am not getting a desk top for 2 years. and I would rather get a GF 100 single GPU in 2 years instead.

Right Now I have a laptop with a GTX 260m.

I can play Crysis with descent Performance on Very High with a 1024 by 783 res

and Crysis War Head on Enthusiast with my full resolution.

Hopefully Crysis 2 will be even more efficient then Crysis War Head.

but other games like MW2 I can play on Max full res 4x aa no problem.

  • @Nomad2243 36 vs 60 fps is a huge difference. For Crysis, a person wants the best hardware for eyecandy and good fps. The GTX295's 36 avg fps will be laggy since the min fps will probably dip into the 20s. The 5970's 60 fps avg and higher min fps will result in a butter-smooth gameplay for Crysis. 5970 ~ $600, GTX295 ~ $500, a $100 difference. The 5970: is 40+% better across the board has dx11 has eyefinity has improving drivers runs cooler than the 295 uses the same amount of electricity

  • Nvidia cards got: CUDA, PhysX, fermi will have DX11, fluids. Where do you want to come? better cards produce more heat, period. You sir are a little fanboy. Ofc you get better picture on ATI cards, ATM, because they got DX11. But it really aint "that" much of a difference. Run batman with crossfire 5970 or SLI 295 and we'll see.

  • @SockanL0L

    Excuse me?

    Just because I like ATI's DX11 cards doesn't make me a fanboy.

"better cards produce more heat, period. "

Wrong. The 8800GTS 512MB outperformed the 8800GTS 640MB while consuming LESS power and producing LESS heat. Why? Because it had a better architecture G92 vs G80.

The GTX480 is better than the 5870 yes, but weaker than the 5970.

All the evidence points to the GTX480 running very hot due to its larger die. ATI simply has a better architechture this time.

  • you are talking about a card that is not even come out...no one now the specs and the performance of GTX4xx series

  • We do know the performance of the GF100/GTX480 because they've actually bench marked the GTX480 with FarCry2 on Hardwarecannucks. That was months ago.

    tomshardware(DOT)com/forum/279244-33-nvidia-fermi-gf100-benchmarks-detailed

And less than a week ago, Nvidia released their own benchmark charts comparing the GTX480 with the 5870 in a synthetic benchmark.

  • GF100/GTX480 and GTX285 VS 5870 and 5890 in benchmarks:

    hexus(DOT)net/content/item(DOT)php?item=21996

  • 5890?

  • @alexapirot32

5890 is the nickname given to the 5970 clocked to 2x5870s specifications. It required 2x PCIe 8 pin connectors and is a triple slot card.

  • ati has :ati avivo ,ati steam,dx11,stereoscopic 3d(catalyst 10.3)...both companies have features

  • Actualy I have no clue anymore. there are so many factors with Dual GPU's they are imposible to Benchmark.

    1. Some games are optimized for diferent GPU's

    2. Drivers can work better on differnent games.

    3. some games don't even make use of the dual GPU. doesnt even split the screen for some games.

    4. ass the resolution gets smaller you get closer and closer performace to the Single GPU's.

  • @Nomad2243

In cases with no CPU bottleneck (CPU bottleneck would show <5% improvement).

    1. For ATI optimized games, the 5970 performs 80-100% better than the 295.

    2. Nvidia optimized games results around 20-40% improvement over the GTX295.

    3. 5970s just came out, so drivers are immature. The performance will improve as drivers are improved.

    4. If you're just using a single GPU, the GTX295 is basically a underclocked GTX275 while the 5970 is a UCed 5870. The 5870 is going too be much better

  • The demo needed 3 Fermi to run and it crashes at the end. Horrible card, goodluck to the suckers who buy it.

  • Ya know what screw you and stop talking to me about GPU's. don't you have something else to do.

hears something we all can agree on. no matter what the GPU Apple sucks dick compared to PC.

  • Architecture is spelled wrong so don't spam my email about it... along with other Typo's

  • Plus that onlt takeing in consideration that the GF 100 Dual card will only have double the Proccesing cores.

the GF 100 cards will also have 3 billion transistors vs the GTX 200's 1.3

GF 100 cards will run DX 11 makeing them have even better performance

    They will have DDR5.

New Firmi Architexture. there is no reason why these cards won't be more then 100% better then the GTX 200 line cards.

But I am done talking. only way to know for sure is wait for them to come out.

  • do the math 240 cores + 240 cores does not = the 512 cores the GF 100 line cards will have.

  • @Nomad2243

    GTX295 = 480 cores

    GF100 = 512cores

GTX295 is about 5-10% better than a 5870 in terms of raw power.

The GF100 has 6% more cores and a more efficient architecture.

This falls in line with the FarCry2 benchmarks that showed that the highest end GF100/GTX480 is roughly 30% better than a 5870.

  • I want to see your face when you see the GTX480/460 prices
