  • he said he was shocked that Amy won the Grammy of the year!! What an arsehole Stevie is!Jealous maybe???

  • @honestatheist1

Jealous of Amy? Never! Don´t be a jerk....

  • @honestatheist1 Why would he be jealous? That makes no sense. Think about who you are talking about. Your talking about a man who has written, produced, arranged and peformed some of the greatest songs & albums ever made. A man who had his had his first number 1 at the age of 13. A man who has recieved 22 Grammy's including 3 consecutive Grammys for the album of year (which is the most coveted Grammy award). And you think his Jealous and an arsehole because he didn't shower her with praise? Lol

  • @honestatheist1 Go and find the 2007 Amy Winehouse interview for Rolling Stone magazine and see what she has to say about the man you're calling an 'arsehole'. You've made yourself look silly with that comment. Do your home work kid. Its always good to do some research. Stevie is on a whole different level of acclaim and his legacy is as an artist is unparalled.

  • @bolder2009 you are BEYOND IGNORANT!!

  • @Spankeedoodle Is that right?

  • @larrypetree Really classy. Pres. Obama, while U and a few too many ignorant souls refuse 2 understand the job he INHERITED fr 1 of the most unintelligent souls God created, & is doing the best he can with what he was left with, along with the Republican/Tea parties. So, until U are qualified 2 take on the job (pls let me kno shld u decide 2 run... I know which country I will move 2, I take my voting rights 2 damned seriously to write in "NO ONE")

As for Amy, if only she knew how good she was.

  • STEVIE WAS RIGHT THAT SHE REMINED HIM OF ETTA JAMES AMY PASSED AWAY R.I.P. ETTA DIDN'T FROM HER DRUG USE.

  • @kim123792 Dinah Washington was Amy's biggest influence. She took part in a BBC documentary about the life of Dinah Washington, and she was so passionate when talking about her. Dinah's lifestyle was tabloid news and she died tragically early, so there are a lot of parallels between them. If you wanna check out the documentary here is the link /watch?v=VbMQhXvx0hg

  • Stevie almost always is generous and kind...this is one of the few things I've ever seen where he's holding back praise for who is clearly a better singer than anyone thought possible, a vocalist with supreme gifts that recall elements of Anita Baker (check out her You Sent Me Flying on here with a couple of skittery dancers--that's the best I've ever heard her, and she always was great when she wasn't over the top), Aretha Franklin, bit of Etta and many others. Stevie is allowed a mean day, 2.

  • @fingling8 Nothing mean about that. He just wasn't blown away by what he heard. That's not a crime. Stevie has performed with Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Whitney Houston, BB King, Jeff Beck, Diana Ross, Milton Nascimento, Luther Vandross, Luciano Pavarotti....a countless list of alltime greats and heavy weight musicians, so perhaps he is just not easily impressed.

  • She definitely belonged at the forefront of the illustrious group. Sings even better than Whitney, and some of those in your list are, in my opinion, far lesser talents...yes, there's no crime of course but I still say Stevie was holding back what he really thought. As one of the greatest singers ever himself--and what a range--Stevie could not fail to hear her greatness. Also, I know Amy W. said Dinah was her greatest influence but no. I hear, believe it or not, Aretha and Anita Baker.

  • @fingling8 I don't think she sings better than Whitney because its Apples and Oranges. Different styles. Whitneys voice was sonically as close to perfect as it gets, even if one didn't like the way she used it or the music she made. As far as the list of greats I mentioned, all of them have a body of work that you really can't argue against if you are a reasonable person. Also Amy didn't always have nice things to say about other artists/musicians. Its all subjective, whether we agree or not.

  • @bolder2009 Too true, entirely subjective. But she's my fave of all. Except that there's so little of her.

  • @fingling Well I'm sure her label will squeeze out every last drop of releasable material. Depending on how much is left. There will naturally be talk about her legacy and where she ranks, and all that Jazz. Right now I'm sure a screen writer in Hollywood is already fast at work, and a plathora of legit and illegitimate biographies are being written. One can safely say that she left a mark on her generation, and her songs will be covered by many that come after her.

  • I think its a shame she didn't get to record her third album. According to Salaam Remi, who produced Frank and 5 songs on Back To Black, she had finished writing the third album, and preparations were being made for her to go into the studio to start recording it. Cee-Lo Green said he had recorded a song with her that was also meant for her album. We will never know. Whatever her label release won't have her vision and approval. Unfortunately that's just the way it goes sometimes.

  • @bolder2009 Wikipedia says her bouncer--her bouncer!--told her to cool it on the wee-hour drums. I think they mean bodyguard. Then he found her asleep at 8 a.m. Not. And went back in the afternoon, when he found that she was not just sleeping. That's so sad. All alone. Could they have saved her at 8?

  • @fingling8 I don't know what really went down, so I won't speculate. But the whole affair is sad. If you were ever passing through Camden Town and bumped into Amy in a takeaway or at one of the local pubs she was usually very accessible, and seemed to like to talk. Unless the paps were around, and then it got tense. The adjustment to fame was hard on her as it would be for any 23y old . I'm glad I got to share some experiences before the fame monster got a hold of her life. What's done is done.

  • @fingling8 Yeah Wiki's isn't always accurate. Her security team of bodyguards. She was apparently learning drum for her third album. Also there was talks of plans for the formation of a group with Quest Love of The Roots.

  • @fingling8 From personal experience, having watched Amy in small gigs before she was famous, I thought she was talented but it wasn't like the greatest thing I'd ever heard. This was before Frank took off. My band played mostly in Camden Town around the time she was making a go of it, so she would play some of the same local venues. She was very good. But at the time I never thought she would blow up the way she did, cause I've heard a lot of great talent in concert and unsigned artists.

  • @fingling8 By the way, who in the list of names is a far lesser talent? I really wanna hear this, just out of curiousity.

  • @fingling8 Hey Amy Winehouse had a VERY good voice but NO female artist can compare to Whitney Houstons voice. Come on now.

  • @MoonWalker989 Well, you may feel free to go listen to Whitney, and I used to have a crush on her so I'm aware of her wondrous voice, but to me Amy is above and beyond. But I guess it's the delivery for me, the way she can break up words into syllables, and the voice is just remarkable, powerful or kittenish as she needs. And she writes like crazy--wrote, that is. Check out that "Teach Me Tonight"--it's just flawless and kind of hair-raising, for me anyway. Whitney you need a lollipop with.

  • @fingling8 I too think Amy was a great writer and performer but she didn't write "Teach Me Tonight" which was published in 1953 with music by Gene De Paul and lyrics by Sammy Cahn.

  • @TheGtuber Yes, good point. I was so much younger when I wrote that...

  • RIP AMY WINEHOUSE

  • no hes not !

  • Well.... he could have been comparing her to Etta James from a personal point of view- Etta James also spent years battling with heavy addiction problems....

  • who is playing the fine piano music in the background ?

  • that's good. that's not the first time she's been compared to etta, which is A super mega atomic honor. i wouldn't exactly consider it praise, but he did say she was like a young etta so obv that's something

  • Saying that she his like a young Etta James, is indeed high praise.

  • zionists are takin over.....

  • Of course it's bullshit. It's ITN news. The UK's third and worst terrestrial channel. Channel 3 is only good for celebrity gossip, endless cop/detective dramas and movie repeats we've seen dozens of times before.

  • i hate it when they describe him as ` a grammy award winning musician ` , there are 100s of grammy award winners,,,,they should say the 25 grammy award winner which is the most for any solo artist in history...

  • i love stevie LOVE LOVE , but i dont think the vocal is cutting itt 2008-9-10

i mean i love it6 but i want 1985 in the deal or to be told it will never be

  • Sounds a bit more 'i respect her but its not my thing'........to not think she's good is wierd and to think she didn't deserve her grammys is ridiculous. Hmmmmm, just to be mentioned by stevie wonder should be good enough lol

  • praising her? has she even seen the chick?......oh, right.

  • Well, OK, Amy Winehouse is not that as bad as she looks - this what I gather from what My Beloved Stevie said. LOL

    Happy New Year !!!!

  • That's right..She's not a diva like Aretha, Etta,etc...She's a 2000 SOUL DIVA....don't forget SHARON JONES as well...1LUV.

    T

  • I'm glad Mr. Stevie doesn't overrate Amy winehouse, as everybody does. I mean how can someone call her a soul diva, when there are real divas like Aretha, Patti, Chaka, Gladys, Etta etc Her voice is not even 1/10 of true divas voices are/were, she just has a nice tone and writes nice songs.

  • Stevie feels that she was unfairly rewarded with a grammy, especially doing soul music, a Jewish chick doing Black retro can be pretty good but how about props to the Black entertainment community, the innovators. But awards are very often given out based on recording executives' tastes or desire to promote chosen acts - so Wonder had a point. Think of China coming up with a much more advanced version of a US-design computer, making huge profits, and you being asked by reporters to praise it -

  • icone da música muito bom .

  • I HEARD STEVIE PASSED HIS DRIVING TEST THIS WEEK!

  • EXISTA 2 REGI AI ACESTOR VOCI NR 1 STEWIE WONDER SI APOI MIHAI DINESCU SA LE DEA DUMNEZEU SANATATE CA AU MARE HAR DUMNEZEIESC CA SA CANTE ASA CU RESPECT ROMEO VADUVA

  • Why does he always move his head in this weird way ?

  • @CizzarGX because he's blind and the only way to find out where things are located he has to move his head so his ears pick up sounds in a more stereo separated way

  • An opportunity to ask a soul-genius about his own magnificent career yet instead they ask his opinion of Amy Winehouse! Says everything about UK papers and us!

  • she was so a hot chick...

  • "I was shocked she won the Grammy....kinda reminds me of a young Etta James a little bit..." Maybe if he could see, he would understand that her commercial success, like Madonna, is partially about her appearance and controversy, not talent. That is the world we live in now

  • @nihowmache People don't buy Amy Winehouse's music because she's a crackwhore with a beehive, they buy it because she has good music. Madonna and Amy Winehouse are different celebrities.

  • @nihowmache so mike tyson never was a really good fighter?

  • This is not praise they say that because she from london and want something to cling to

  • Stevie wonder didn't only record good stuffs. After the 60ties and early seventies he was lost for many years. recording stuff and selling soap. He has just been prolific enough to keep some things. When you listen to S. Wonder you keep the greatest hits. If you come back to the original CDs, it is far from being all good.

  • well its a good thing nobody listens to either.

  • i didn't hear any praises here...

  • I love Winehouse's music, but he wasn't praising. He's just a real nice guy :)

  • Praise ? He can't stand her ! Amy Winehouse is pathetic.

  • amy winehouse is great.

    stevie wonder is God.

  • its not only his eyes that cant see

  • He is so freaking cool. He wasn't praising her, he was what you call being a good guy.

  • She was kinda like a young Etta James, only Etta actually got her shit together before she went too far, and Amy completely went off the deepend. Its sad because she actually had real talent, and the music industry lacks talent nowadays. She could've gone on to be great, instead she smoked it all away :-(

  • life is aisha..

    the meaning of her name

  • did i lose something in translation? PRAISE is not expressing shock that someone won a prestigious award but their cd was 'good' lol. obviously he didn't think she deserved it

  • HE DID NOT PRAISE AMY AT ALL.

  • what is the song in the begining and in the middle as a background and in the end?

  • whatever stevie says is the truth, he is the TRUTH when it comes to music!!!

  • If only he could see her.

  • he does

  • lol

  • Starting a statement with a sentence like "I was shocked that she won the Grammy of the year of the song" - well, that says it all.

  • NOT true. At least i dont think so.

    Stevie Wonder ftw

  • It was more like! Stevie made nice comments about Amy's cd! he never says anything bad, always will focus on something good to say

  • That is not praise....he was deff. holding back IMO

  • @Lemure333 Ha, you're right...sounds more like he had to say something nice when they asked him. He did say she reminds him of a "young Etta James" a little but just had to think of something to say! I personally love Amy Winehouse...Stevie is even much more incredible!

  • @Lemure333 holding back... "a young Etta James", lol that doesn't sound like holding back too much, maybe he wasn't crazy about her, but he definitely appreciated her talent

  • enty3sf ...stevie is the godfather.nothing wrong with stevie ...it is your ears stupid !

  • haha amy winehouse really sucks stevie owns

  • lol being compared to etta james is not a compliment when referring to her "habits"

  • HA...yea, he was deff picking his words very carefully...no praise here

  • i hate british journalist. they alway put themselves in the story - even when totallly unnecessary

  • thats a bit stereotypical.

  • This is spin at it's best. There wasn't a word of praise in this statement. About the best thing he said was "she reminds me of young Etta James A LITTLE BIT"

ha he was just being politic to kick off his European tour

  • praise?

did i mis-hear or didn't he start with "i was shocked she won a grammy"?!

haha... always amazes me when journalists can't afford a proper microphone.

  • It's only because he's blind, if he could see what she has done to herself......

  • Comment removed

  • ummmm he didnt prais eher at all.. it looked as if he was trying to answer the question without being rude lol

  • haha! exactly, just sounds like hes trying not to be rude. i wouldn't call it genuine 'praise' by any standard.

  • Amy Methlab

  • Amy Crackhouse Y'all...she is talented-but git your shit together woman!

  • Stevie is a REAL artist - he knows whinehouse is nothing but just mediocre.

Winehouse ain't shit but a dope fiend.

ray charles liked his heroine but at least he had control and respect by not shoving it in peoples faces and getting repeatedly arrested and flouting the rules. Ray came from a poor background, was black and blind. WTF is whinehouses excuse?

  • Better praise Amy quick, how many days does she have left?

  • not many hopefully then we can be rid of the continual bad tabloid on this smackhead

  • She is the anti drug poster child of Planet Earth.

  • more like a neglected horses poster

  • stevie wonder is the ultimate entertaining musician, he uses such a variety of sounds and music to create amazing masterpieces. i watched stevie wonder doing a live show on bbc and it really changed my view on music, stevie wonder forever!!!!!!

  • Amy is the best ARTIST of my generation. In my opinion, of course. Notice how I emphasized the word artist; not person, not woman. Musically speaking. Her personal struggles are none of my business. Anyways, I respect Stevie as well. but I agree; he wasn't praising her, he was being polite and everyone knows she has a throwback type of voice. That's why they always compare her to all these jazz era female vocalists. Thing is, I don't even think she wants that, it does get annoying after a while.

  • this is one of the most ridiculous comments i've ever read. one of the best musical artists of our generation? amy's entire freakin sound is about sounding RETRO! kids nowadays hear something without heavy synths and electronic vox fixes and think, "holy crap that is so new, but yet sounds so old! what a unique sound!"

its just old shit being rehashed. stevie > amy winehouse simply as a musician, and i'm even being lenient and basing that purely off of voice, nevermind he can play the piano...

  • the piano, drums, guitar, bass, etc. etc. etc.... Stevie is an awesome performer.

  • How can anyone listen to what he said and think he is "praising" Amy Winehouse?

He said he was "shocked" she won the Grammy. He said her cd was "good". He is being diplomatic. He is far from praising her.

You people are delusional if you think he is praising her.

  • Agree he was NOT praising her but he also said she reminds him of a younger Etta James...I think that is a nice compliment don`t you? And futhermore he had his succes Amy is HOT now so way put a label to his little opinion?:))

  • @JewishVegan Thanks for wrinting my thoughts.

  • @JewishVegan Exactly. You can believe that if SW really liked AW, he'd be on her CD, or she'd be on a Herbie Hancock's CD. She's not, so... The new "pop" artist on Herbie's latest (and previous) CD, are the "pop" artists that are truly worthy of being called artists. Don't get it twisted :-)

  • @JewishVegan wouldn't you be 'praised' if stevie wonder thought you're cd was good?

  • @JewishVegan hahahahahahahahha lmao!!!!!

  • damn look like somebody beat her with a ugly bat

  • she looks good

  • I have to replace my last comment from "Exactly" to - Stop all Bullying!...Full stop

Online Bullying is not even remotely as severe as RL Bullying.

  • Exactly =)

  • Amy's voice is sexy.

  • No....Amy wrote the music too.

Do some research before inflicting your stupidity on other people.

  • Amy has a mean voice its rough and soulful if that makes any sense !

  • I thought he was muslim?

  • She wrote all lyrics...

  • I'm not a fan of Amy Whinehouse, but I must admit that it's ridiculous for people to automatically assume that she should be shunned from obtaining a grammy because she does cocaine. Eric Clapton devoted a song to it, even though it was written by J.J. Cale. The point is, when it comes to music, only music should mater. To hell with politically correctness.

  • yeah...

    she won cause she's good

  • its called a back handed complement lol

    i <3 stevie

  • Haha i wouldnt call that praise. He was asked and said 'I was surprised she won.. yeah it has a few good songs.' haha thats almost insulting i think he was being polite to a fellow artist.

  • is he blind? :(

  • Hey...why the bad ratings? It's just a question!

Yes, he was blind since his birth.

  • okey, :(

  • hahahaha hes thinking 'i cant believe im saying this'. I don't think it qualifies as praise either if i was amy winehouse i would be gutted probably

  • Well, he did compare her to Etta James. . that's got to be a compliment. I don't think if he didn't give two hoops in hell about her music he would have made that comparison. I personally like Amy's fresh, soulful approach. And. . . if she's up for an award, I think she should be seriously considered cause of her musical contribution, not her problems. Certainly, I am not snubbing Stevie, but I do wish her the best.

  • true true - yeah i like her as well we probably need more new artists like ms winehouse

  • what u mean on smack?

  • As talented as Ms Winehouse may be, I suspect that she lucked out a little, with her last album because the way she has behaved since does not give one the impression of a long-lasting, PROFESSIONAL superstar like, say, Beyonce or Christina.

  • well i don't give a shit what winehouse does or looks like all i care is that her music is dope.

  • Stevie is legend!

  • Has Stevie Wonder even heard Amy Winehouse's music? Her voice BLOWS!

  • He has too much class to publicly trash her, no matter how much she deserves it. His answer said it all. He said he was shocked when she won the grammy. In other words, she didn't deserve to win.

  • agreed

  • agreed

  • i disagree, i think she's very talented, but could do without the alchohol and drugs.

  • There might be another Star!

  • i dont judge amy winehouse because of her alcohol and drug based past

i judge her because her voice absolutely SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You wish your voice sucked that much!! lol

  • he's amaizing!

i play the piano but im not blind!

i can kinda play it like him but if i was blind i would be no where close!

  • how come he always moves his head like that?

  • Because it's how he operates. It's in his heart. He follows it, and that's why he's famous.

  • Stevie turned down the operation that would have restored his sight

  • ooooooooooh!!! thats cruel! (I'm ashamed to be laughing).

  • That is a "blindism" according to Stevie. He said that it comes from the excess energy that he gets because he isn't using his eyes seeing and focusing...etc

  • Well, he is blind, after all... and noone accused Winehouse of being a shitty singer... easy mistake to make.

  • no waaaaaaay. hes blind? thats amazing.

  • I don't know if it really qualifies as praise to be honest, he says the word "good" a lot. Stevie would go nuts about someone if they were REALLY good, i know that!

  • High praise for such a skank

  • Coming from a low-life used cigarette butt such as yourself, that's certainly an insult that carries weight.

  • "If he dodged the question or insulted her (like we know he wanted to) he would have been crucified by the public."

    how is stevie these days?

just you obviously know him wel enough to determine how he wants to answer questions.

stop banging on about amy winehouse being so shit at everything, get some talent and do it yourself if you think she cant sing

and how is she ripping off soul music? She's a soul singer

    knobheads =]

  • The thing is clear: everybody doesn't like everything... It's impossible. U know?

  • Stevie knows. Amy IS like a young Etta James...in the sense that she has a voice for the ages...but I actually think she models her singing more on Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.

  • Amys all rocked up on that rock

  • Despite all the negative discussions about her personal life, you cant deny the voice she has.

With all the rubbish on air these days it's so good to hear Amy.

    Hope she changes positively.

  • Amy has no originality at all. Congrats Amy on your remake of an already hit, your drug problems, your eating disorder and ripping off soul music. Come back for praise when you do something positive consistently. Flash in the pan man.

Stevie Wonder = Legend Amy Whinehouse = who is amy wino again? For the record he did not praise her at all. He was being polite lets not confuse.

  • Well... Giving back life to the old soul sound is her thing isn't it? Has she ever claimed anything else?

And srsly, wtf has drug addiction and eating disorder anything to do with the music she makes?

  • YOU my friend must not confuse artists' private lives with their work.

  • He had to be polite. If he dodged the question or insulted her
