Goldilocks is Fine as Hell thank goodness for one good lookin chick. Also yea I knw it's raciest but it sure is funny as hell, only thing wrong is the lips
WTF they should have made the wolf white, the black man is represented fully here stupid and ugly as an old boot, but the black woman ,the real object of his sick twisted sexual desire is hot as fish grease . Riiiiight.
Loved watching Grandma jitterbug! As an "African American", I realize that this is a cartoon. It's meant to mock stereotypes (which are based on perceived images). What I find racist in today's media is the image of all blacks (especially those born in the USA and Jamaica) as being "gangsta". Networks such as BET perpetuate this type of racist propaganda.
I am an african american man and I have no problem with these cartoons, in fact I find them hilarious. I am capable of recognizing these cartoons as caricatures rather than the artist's actual view of africans; Why doesn't anyone cry foul when countless black comedians viciously mock white people?
You know, it's really amazing thatmost of these cartoons were meant to be somewhat groundbreaking but partially relied to stereotypical behavior, leading to them being banned. I ultimately agree with their decision, but I'm glad it's more accessible now. Not only do I think this cartoon was entertaining, but I ultimately think that it's much better to show our past mistakes than pretend like they never exist.
I actually think this is a pretty cool tribute to the black jazz music of the time and the contributions made to popular music from the likes of folks like Fats Waller.
After thsi and Chuck's three bears, Freleng did his own for hsi first DFE enterprises special, with Bing Crosby, Mary Francis Crosby, Paul Winchell and Avery Schreiber doing voices.April 7, 1970.
I'm not here to bask in the racism presented here, but when I see the word "censored," I have to look, just to see what's beyond the curtain. This is a product of its time, certainly, and I cringe at the parts that fall below today's more enlightened moral standards; but, as the saying goes: "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it."
Can't see the racism? The "lazy Negro", the fact that the bears "haven't been to school," the misspelling of "riveter" to show stupidity, the racist imitation of black dialogue --"oh lawdy"-- the character design with gigantic lips, the exaggerated "black" voices,RR Hood's pickaninny hair , Steppin Fetchit's clone delivering the telegram? You mean besides all that? If you aren't a member of the group portrayed, you have no business weighing in as to your decision about the racist content.
1. Look at the time period. Not a lot of blacks had the money to be educated, however the cartoon says they have musical talent regardless.
2. "Rivetater" was for a rhyme.
3. How is imitation of dialect racist? If that's the case, all media is racist because Americans have a different English accent than the British.
Stereotyping =/= racism. Caricatures depend on exaggeration of prominent features. That's how that art style is, and it's funny. Stop reacting and think.
@Kiithknight if you really believe that then there is definitely something wrong with you. And if you didn't know the media promotes racism and most other things that support ignorance to keep the population uneducated in social matters and just plain stupid.
Since never because racism and stereotype are not synonymous.
Stereotype - "a standardized mental picture that is held in common by members of a group and that represents an oversimplified opinion, prejudiced attitude, or uncritical judgment"
Racism - "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race"
For example, "Black people have big lips" is not racist. It's a stereotype based on an oversimplification of genetic predisposition. Saying x is y is not racist unless you say z is better.
Not racist: "Black people are lazy."
Racist: "Black people are lazy, so white people are better."
Not racist: "Asians are smart."
Racist: "Asians are superior to every other race because of their intellect."
There's a HUGE difference between racism and stereotyping. Racism = superiority complex.
@KnowYourReps Actuallly, this isn't as bad as you think. It's quite a celebration of black music of the time. None of the creators of this cartoon had bad intentions.
@KnowYourReps While I agree that many facets of these old cartoons are racist stereotypes,I believe a lot of it is blown out of proportion. Steppin Fetchit is depicted as he depicted himself in movies of the time, just as other WB cartoons depicted other popular celebrities of the era.."in caricature". the hairstyle you refer to is not at all out of fashion for the time and, just because the same type of p*$#@**y style was used on stereotyped advertising..it doesn't necessarily make it racist
@KnowYourReps cont'd speech imitation and accents are a stretch for being called racist..that would make anyone who ever did a fake British,Australian, etc. accent a racist...I don't believe your contention that only members of a certain race can determine what racist is..some members of the same race have differing opinions so who is right ??..most of the time people choose to be offended..the same way people can choose not to be offended..as a kid I saw people and bears.. not race
Stereotypical? Yes. Cartoons are about stereotypes by definition. They're humorous simplifications/exxagerations of real life. ask any cartoonist. Racist? No. There is no malice towards blacks in this cartoon, and many of the voice actors are even black themselves.
I actually kinda like this cartoon. I like the narration and alterations in the stories. Yes, there are stereotypes, but its not as bad as it is in some cartoons. In addition, most of the characters (males btw) were animals, so I'm not as offended by this one as I am by other racists cartoons.
However, despite Goldilocks's attractiveness, I dislike her sexual portrayal, as well as the how Red riding hood and Grandma were (since not attractive) portrayed as 'regular caricatures'.

"racism" implies an inherent prejudice or hate towards a race. That is very different from a simple caricature of a culture.

Y'all are going to have to get over some of this stuff, seriously. People LIKE a lot
of characteristics of black performers, so instead of getting all INSULTED over it,
laugh and appreciate it. My family were all West Virginia hillbillies, who have
been made fun of by Hollywood day without number. FORGET IT!
