  • The voicing of the accents in the circular licks with the left hand in the last 1:30 is simply awesome - so smooth, clean and beautiful.

  • Christ that's good. So hard to bring out the musicality in this song behind all the technical aspects. This is one of my favourite renditions of this song...including Mike's own performances.

  • Unreal playing man... Many compliments!!! Can you please tell me which guitar is that?

  • We've spoken before... it's a wonderful rendition. Heavy burden... I don't agree with the tempo critiques either. I think aerial boundaries was always about the echo...

  • dude, this is amazing, you should so make a lesson video on you tube for this song!

  • I love this piece of music, and have been listening to it for 20 years now. This is an excellent interpretation of one of the best guitar pieces ever written.

  • This composition is a milestone in guitar playing technique, and your interpretation and execution beautifully catches the spirit of this masterpiece. Thanks for sharing, Michael Hedges would be proud.

  • I can't even believe people are talking about the tempo, you sound great! It takes somwone special to even get it at all. I met mike and talked shop. He was going to release an album with bass and drums if you can believe that! He was very excited about the prospect, as was I! I miss him. you keep it alive, It, him and you have that Hendrix thing. Wild, loose and different,t with conviction!

    Love it!

  • Thank you!

  • WOW... i have this cd, but i never knew only one guitar was the whole thing!

  • Badass job.

  • !@#$ing outstanding

  • holy crap man... didn't miss a detail. bet you made a fortune that day

  • the sickest instrumental cover i've ever heard

  • Just beautiful...Those stop techniques are the whole key to pulling this off."Rickovers Dream" and "Sofa" in my canon, but this one still eludes.

  • I have to agree with RegTedSan -- best non-Hedges-himself version I've ever heard. I was fortunate enough to have seen Michael in concert 3 times: 1987, at the "old" Iron Horse," about a year later at Smith College, where he appeared with Leo Kottke -- at the end they did "Pinball Wizard" as a duet, and brought the house down; and art some strange church group meeting house. Absolutely mesmerizing, I still can't believe he's gone...

  • Hey this is fantastic! Is there at the and a little difference that you play? For me it sounds a little off. I don't know if M.H. did it on the L.P, but anyway, you're doing a great job and I would be my own hero If I could play this song! And yes, Michael lives! Thanx for uploading and have a good time!

  • There's no arguing with beautiful and this is a beautiful sound. Great job!

  • You have mastered it. txs

  • For those interested in learning to play the piece, the tab is included in the book Rhythm Sonority Silence.

  • @LanakilaIesu Yeah his book is a must have if you want to tackle Aerial Boundaries or any of his other compositions. This is a piece that I want to play as close to the way Hedges plays it as possible.

  • nice one dude great job on this its alomst like the original

  • It sounds almost like the original. The only one who approaches the genius of Michael Hedges.

  • This song is best when you watch the guitarist playing it. Its the performance as whole that makes this song awesome watching hand movements and all the crazy stuff

  • The slowing down and speeding up is what I like about Hedges' performance...it's what you get to do when you're playing all the parts yourself. You've done an outstanding job capturing the brilliance of his song. Love it and go on and make it your own from here!

  • Which is the tuning? O:

  • @brutalmetalDMM Tuning is CCDGAD. Be careful when tuning the A up to a C. Take it slow and your string shouldn't snap.

  • Excellent!

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • Beautiful homage to the master. Well done, my friend!

  • Woah, i liked this when it had a mere 2,000 views, so glad its hit 70,000+ ppl, awesome.

  • Andrew....your version is AMAZING...i was a Hedges fan big time and YOU my friend.....are way too good for a park....the original spirit of the Windham Hill label is in you....love it!

  • This is a fantastic cover mate well done

    Shane

  • Great job man!

  • Awesome Job!

  • What effect should I add on my amp?

  • @jazzpsalti, thanks 4 the comment!! I've loved Michael's playing since the first time I heard it back in the late 80's & I've heard SO MANY people try to play this, but BY FAR....yours is the most impressive. Your right he slows down on the original recording but the average person, such as myself, misses it. Either way, your playing is superb!!

  • Love this soo much!

  • this is honestly my favorite cover of the song i've heard so far. it sounds amazing, and i even love the little things you added on to some of the parts-genius. Right on, man!

  • When I first heard this I thought it was a bit fast as well, but to me, after listening to the original, it's almost dead on. Excellent playing.

  • @GGBundy Yeah, a lot of people have been talking about the tempo... I am fast, about 8-10bpm too quick. But a big issue is that Mike progressively drags on the studio version. By the end of the piece, he's down a good 15bpm from where he started. This is probably because he had to throttle back for the four finger figure in the middle of the piece...

I stay completely on tempo front to back in this performance. So the places where Hedges slowed down on record are definitely going to sound fast.

  • technique is good ,but its a little too fast.slow it down a little.

  • @bigdaddydaug I think your wrong, the speed is perfect. Sounds the same tempo as Hedges origonal.

  • @zebidee86 It is a bit fast. If you read Andrews comment above he says he plays it fast. Although Michael does slow down a bit..... not sure its 15bps........ I dont think hes doing it to for any other eason then thats what he wanted to do. I have a hard time thinking he HAD to slow down for the dificult part. Not to put Michael on a pedastool but I just dont think thats the reason.

Anyway I love this version, its the best cover I have ever seen.

  • michael would be proud of this

  • BEST COVER EVARRRRR

  • GREAAT!

not one of those boring fingerstlye cover, what you created is great work!!!!!!!!

  • 14 people will be haunted by Michael Hedges' ghost.... I hope. :]

  • Nice job!

  • Absolutely enthralled. Excellent!

  • Andrew, good God, man, that was wonderful. I got to see the late and very great Michael Hedges the last two tours of his life, and had tickets for the third the day he died.

Just wonderful. Enjoyed it a lot. And I see it's been going on three years since you posted. I hope to hell you're still playing guitar. And I hope you get this message.

  • This guy really made me wanna put my guitar on ebay. Your rendition is almost same as the original record.

  • Brilliant rendition man....I have yet to see anyone but you that can do AB justice!

  • Beautiful!!! No other words! You and michael blow me away!

  • i was wondering if you could give me a slight breakdown of the first 30 seconds of the song. like what the technique is.

  • Man this man is like your god. I checked out your facebook page and dude, you really love him! He'd be proud, and I love this version.

  • Great version.

  • Just checked out your facebook profile. Throw some Tommy Emmanuel in there despite the stark contrast in style and give his stunning interpretation of Classical Gas a whirl. I'd love to hear it!

  • Good work! That was awesome.

  • amazing job, and u make it look easy

  • Michael would be proud! I especially a fan of the ending, sounds like you added a bit more euphoria. I'm a great fan of yours. Keep doing what you doing. All the best!

  • well damn

  • very good man, this is awesome.

  • Like to see Michael Manring do this piece on his HyperBass.I KNOW he can do it!

  • Thank you. Amazing . IWhat guitar are you playing. I love it. Sweet Action are those light strings.

    \t\hanks

  • Great cover dude, I wish I could play it! Maybe one of those day I'll try it out

  • Je ne connaissais pas Michael Hedges jusque là... Superbes morceau et interpretation. 3:25 - 4:15 !

  • What process did you go through to learn this song?

Use a tab? Watch videos of him a million times?

  • @halfstepdown88 Basically I started working it out by ear, having a little knowledge of what's happening technically. and then I bought a Windham Hill video and gleaned the rest from MH's performance. Then I got a tip from a friend about Michael's string stopping technique. I'm sure I don't do this song exactly right, but it's close enough for me to be satisfied :)

  • @jazzpsalti Holy smokes, you didn't learn this from the tabs?!

  • @jazzpsalti Where did you learn the technical aspect of it? I can't seem to find a good tab anywhere. I want to be able to play this sexy beast

  • @halfstepdown88 The tablature is in his book "Rhythm, Sonority, Silence". It's a must have if you want to learn this piece properly. It indicates all the string muting. One of the developmental concepts in this composition was that it might be interesting if the left and right hands each played independant parts.

There is an accurate TAB on powertab.net but I still recommend his book if you are really fascinated with Hedges work and wish to imitate him as best as possible.

  • Bravo! Bravo~!

  • How do I even begin to try to learn this?

  • that is very very well played !!!!

  • musical genius man.

    hes so original

  • gleb you rock dude :D

  • almost perfect, but a bit too fast, good job

  • I don't know, the speed gives life to his interpretation. I love it, you can just tell he's loving every minute of it. There's such a joy in his playing, you can see it on his face.

  • Wow!!! No words can describe! ;)

  • fu**ing brilliant !!

  • Hedges Lives! Fantastic achievement man - really awesome!

  • Beatiful !

  • absolutely brilliant man

  • Never get tired of this. Great cover. Thanks for posting.

  • Well done lad, Done a great job of this piece.

  • Hedges will always be my favorite. I think this rendition does him honor.

  • Strepitoso!

  • oh my god...freaking shit! absolutely brilliant...damn...no words for this...but at 3:48 knocked me out...

  • I thought that was an Andrew improv but Michael does that slide in some of his live versions. Andrew was the one who pointed that out to me. Adrew does the best cover of this I have ever heard.

  • I would really like to know the tuning for this song :D

  • CCDGAD

  • Hands down.

  • what amp is that

  • Hey man, for these vids I did a few years ago in the park I used a Crate Limo TX50... not the best busking amp out there, I think the Roland CubeStreet is much better...

And my setup here is a Rainsong WS-1000 w/ Trance Amulet + Sunrise S1.

  • thanks! Keep it up man your very talented.

  • OMG! 3:31 to the end...

No words can describe how fking great this was played.

  • congratulations...incredible !!!!

  • dear boy, because i don't play the guitar as you?? your hands are kissed from god...thank you dear boy I hope to see and listen your music for many many years...thanks

  • fantastic...you are a great guitarist!!!!!!!!!!

    i have no more words....

  • I don't normall post comments but as guitarist I felt the need to say your playing is fkin amazing - as perfect as the original! Your tapping looks effortless; is that just technique? A v.good guitar? Or just a lot of amplification?

  • Sounds really good!

  • Wish i was sat on the bench opposite! A great cover of a timeless classic. Good to see people doing justice to Michael's great composistions.

  • Another fantastic tune is 2 Drax 2 Drive. Amazing talent!

  • Thank you for this vid! Brought me much joy.

  • You have a link? I'd love to hear it.

  • yeah, the vid code is OiHIYHpKtfw

  • You played that stunningly well - best version I have ever hear (besides the original of course). I have listened to Hedges for over 20 years and you definitely did him proud. Regarding you comments, I believe he was a better composer than a guitar player (if that is even possible). His songs would be just as beautiful on any other instrument. Will history remember him that way? Time will tell.

  • I should mention that there is a video of me busking on the street with my Martin, equipped with a FRAP and a Sunrise S-1 just like MH had, and I'm playing this tune and it sounds a lot better LOL

  • Your cover is AMAZING

  • awsome...............i was turned on to Michael in 1984 and i am still amazed by his work,...you played thi perfect man AWSOME!!!

  • This is actually better than don ross' version.

  • fantastic.

  • Andrew -- I've seen several of your other vids and the only question I'd like to ask is, why are you not signed to Candy Rat? Your talent is remarkable and of a very high caliber. You should be right there with Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour, at least that's how I see it.

  • fantastic your amazing, i'm so glad that michael's music is still played and loved, and played by people who have talent, such as "jazzpsalti", keep on going man

  • it was one of his dreams to go down as a great composer... all we need are people with authority to say that he is... so I'm doing my part :) what a beautiful soul

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job!!

  • Very good cover! -- 5 stars! Keep up the great work!

  • Well Andrew. I defo have to post my version soon once I get my pickup fixed. What are you recording into there?

  • hi, great cover.

can you tell me the tuning of this song, please?

  • Of all the Michael Hedges attempts I have seen, somehow you seem to really capture the same spirit of what he communicated with this song. Very well done.

  • I believe it's because he loves this tune. I like to think when I do it I get the same affect. Absolute genius of a compostion.

  • THIS IS A VERY GOOD COVER

  • The true test of great music is longevity...Bach, Mozart etc...this is one of the greatest songs ever composed and people will be trying to learn it and replicate hundreds and hundreds of years from now...nice job. RIP MH

  • i agree with john who cares if its not exact cover, i love it the way it is. I like how your all into it :]

  • Yea it's pretty evident that you can't completely recreate music like this.

  • lol, of course you can!

  • banana

  • ooooooh WAAAAH. So a few parts weren't just like Hedges' original. Who fuckin cares. That was a great rendition. I like your attitude and park setting. Nicely done. Way to make it your own.

  • Very nice!

  • This is a nice bit of work. Well done, and thanks for posting it.

  • Hi right hand technique at 1:50 is quite to difficult to get down. I'm still working on it. BTW there aint much wrong with this at all. Do you another PU source bar the sunrise I see in your soundhole? Well done.

  • I'm a Michael Hedges freak. You've come as close to getting, not just the technical part, but the feeling Hedges presents. A little fast, but great cover.

  • yeah there are a lot of things wrong with this cover, I realize now, 3 years later lol! Maybe I'll redo it...

  • Ok so MAYBE a few things LOL but jesus dude isn't it a feat that anyone can play this tune? I feel special when I play it and each time it gets better. The guy was a FREAKIN genius. And the best thing? Even those who would not follow solo guitar listen to Michael Hedges and see right past the guitar and into the soul! The eye of the composer!!

  • Would love to see you do a new version but I still love this pumped up one a lot! It grooves relentlessly! :-)

  • i live in his home town. and its really interesting to see how gnar his music is. he definetly thought outside the box with the hand technique. thats my favorite part.

  • I heard this for the first time in the series Bones... And it is so perfect.. I Love IT!!!!

  • YEAH!!! I just noticed that when I was doing a Byzantine chant gig down in Sacramento!!! We watched a lot of Bones and it was the one where nerdy dude gets accused of murder, but it's actually this other dude who's quick with the knife... then they get him and this song plays. SO badass

  • This guy is the best! He is the new Michael Hedges, I swear, your tunes are so good!

  • you are michael guy....please send me tab of aerial boundaries?please please please...ale ;-)))

  • YARR MIKE LIVES!!

  • I must say, Michael Hedges is a favorite of mine....nice performance.

  • shiit great dude!

  • WOW!

  • I don't know what's more perfect; this performance or the EQ. Every note, crystal clear. My hero!!!

  • just checking in again. awesome song never gets boring

  • I will say this. This guy has twice as many hits as both of the Hedges' versions of this tune on here.

  • yeah I'm a bit bugged by that, especially since I now know where I played this piece wrong...

  • Damn, that was nice!!!!

  • Bravo!

  • dear
