I have this book. It's one of my favorites. John of Gaunt and Katherine are my ancestors, so I sort of feel a personal interest. I'd love to see a movie made about them!
kate winslet..as Katherine...absolutley...but I dont agree with any of the possible John, Duke of Lancaster except , maybe, Ralph Feinnes..is it?? this part has to be a hot, hot dude.( I am not a great speller)...sorry.. I read "Katherine" about every 2 years or so..Blanche, yeah Gweneth Paltro..or maybe Sophie would be perfect but she'd have to go blonde for the part....i wish they would make a movie, its a wonderful love story!

John of Gaunt is 31 and Katherine is 20 when they finally consummate their love half way through the novel. I think Ramola Garai is the best suggestion in the bunch and could pass for 15 (I recently saw her in some horribly depressing romance movie and she made a very convincing 16 year old). Ray Stevenson is too handsome to be Hugh - much as I like the look of him. Richard Armitage might possibly pull off John with good maekup and hair artist.
Drew Barrymore just as she was in Ever After, except with red hair. Perfect for Katherine. She has the straight nose and the cleft chin. Gray eyes. John of Gaunt, he would need to be very tall with dark features... Leonardo Dicaprio is pretty much the opposite.
I think Kate Winslet is too old, now... But she WOULD have been magnificent 10 years ago. And let's not get carried away by Leo. He's great, but not for this.
You have got to be kidding??? Selma Hayek as Constanza??? If Constanza would have looked like that in the book John might have forgotten all about Katherine. Constanza was basically a child bride not the HOT number that Hayek is. And I HAVE to ask---Why not Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard of Star Trek fame) as John??? Think about it....Comment if you dare.........
Great video, I am absolutely in love with the book, if they don't make a film I think I might die. :(
Interesting casting choices... not sure I like all of them though: Jack Black? Seriously?
Liking Philip Glenister as Hugh and Helena Bonham-Carter as Alice, but not sure about any of the Johns apart from maybe Ralph Fiennes, not even Richard Armitage, the god that he is. ;) What about Rupert Penry Jones?
Such a glamorous fictionalized version of Katherine's life. She and John of Gaunt are my ancestors. I love this book....interesting to me there are so many fans one would "cast" the movie. No to Leonardo....not sure whom I would like to be John.
Yes to Kate Winslet.
Alison Weir has a new historical version that is out at my library. I was just there today looking for it.
Susan Howatch's famous novel Wheel of Fortune is a later adaptation of this story. For ANYONE who loves Katherine, please read Wheel of Fortune. It is fantastic, a page turner, and brilliant novel
I agree with Biamedici. This is a story that should have been on film, should be on film and I wonder why it has been overlooked. I also agree that Leonardo Di Caprio is not John of Gaunt. John of Gaunt should be Viggo Mortensen from Lord of the Rings. Just my 2 cents :)
I've often wondered why this novel hasn't been filmed, given Katherine's great importance to British history and the very romantic nature of the story. Unfortunately, I can't really agree with the casting suggestions. Leonardo DiCaprio? I don't see it. And I do think that all of the actors would have to be British to carry this off.
i agree it would be great to make a movie of the book, but i can't help but hate these casting suggestions! (bar one or two). I'm just worried that if it is made any time soon, they would make a big cock up of it or stray too far from the book. kate winslet's lovely but not right for katherine! sorry :S
Awesome, thanks! I am almost done with the book and I am loving it. I was looking on-line to see if someone had made a movie of it. Someone should!! Thanks for your great video. I like Jack Black for Chaucer, perfect.
Lovely video. I enjoyed all the casting suggestions...espicially Kate Winslet as Katherine. :) *sigh* I love this book so much. I really, really hope they'll make it into a movie!
Perhaps a someone connected to the film industry will will see this or have it emailed to them and realize that, Here is a story that needs to be told and told well.

Russel Crowe would be much better as Hugh I think. No to Leo for John as well, Paul Bettany would be really good and Natalie Portman for Katherine
