Just how superb the Eighties was is in and of itself IS a Neverending Story. As for today's music and cinema and just the matter of the way things are .... well that's another story.
Hey I liked the girl when I first saw this on Friday Night Videos. I thought she was cute. Well, lets just say I was horny back then ;) I read on Wikipedia this is Mandy Newton on the video, not the original singer, Beth Anderson. I tried to find current pics of her, but came up empty ... But Many does sing it live on a couple of TOTP vids (search here), and she is not bad at all.
No disrespect intended. But all these years, I thought the lead singer of this song was a woman. :-O Sorry man!!! Love the song, and the movie. Really!
NeverEnding Story is an amazing movie!!! The song is awesome....But the 80's were the best....The Goonies,Stand By Me....all those flicks that everyone still loves and watches.....There is going to be a remake of the movie but it is being based on the book which is in german...Suppose to be out this year or next...But nothing will ever beat the original 1984 version....AMAZING how so many people still talk about this movie,,,,And the song is still a hit
best song for a wonderful movie.. i love the neverending story still to this day.. ( i'm nearly 40 ) !! I could watch it every day!! And i still believe in the wonder of stories...
Great call to give the melody in the chorus to the female singer. His voice in the harmony blends so perfectly with her's slightly above it. It's great to see that Limahl wasn't afraid to take the harmony part for a section of the song, if it means making the song better. You don't find that very much these days: today's singers are such divas.
The 80's was an awesome era for any kid who grew up in that time. I can't possibly name all the great things that came out of the 80's, so I'll name the ones that I'm familiar with. Cartoons like Transformers, GI Joe, Voltron, He-Man, Thundercats & the action figures that came with the shows. Movies like Die Hard, Back to the Future, The Neverending story & many more. Garbage Pail Kids trading cards were very popular at the time (the crappy movie does not count).
@jagarcia0705 YOU ARE SO CORRECT I LOVED THE 80S!! LETS SEE (VOLTRON) (GOBOTS) (ULTRAMAN) HOW ABOUT THE MOVIE (PREDATOR) THEN OF COURSE WE HAD SHOWS LIKE (CHIPS) (HARD CASTLE AND MCORMICK) (GUMBY) THE 80S WERE TRULY WONDERFUL AND KIDS TODAY MAY HAVE ALL THIS TECHNOLOGY SHIT BUT WHAT WE HAD WAS WAY BETTER AND REQUIRED YOU TO ACTUALLY HAVE A IMAGINATION BUT HELL BACK THEN I HAD A GRAND MOTHER WHO WAS AN ANGEL AND SHE SAVED ALL THE TOYS FROM THE 1940S TILL THE 1980S IN THE ATTIC IT WAS HEAVEN
@thebearjewkiller1976 The 80's was the era for cartoons, but if I were to name 2 cartoons from the 90's (as the best) it would definitely be X-Men & Exo-Squad. If I had one complaint about Exo-Squad, it was canceled on a cliffhanger. While the PS3 & X-Box 360 is awesome, I still think back to a more simpler time, back when the NES & the just release SNES were still the best game systems.
Kids of today will never feel the rush of imagination and innocence like the 80's brought to my generation. This song and movie means the world to me when it comes to thinking about the great things of being a child. I feel sorry for todays kids...they will NEVER have this chance. Great post
what happened to the days of me being an 11 year old boy watching this at my argentinian grandpas house?... crazy how time flys... lets engineer our dna to stop aging with in the next ten years, im gonna fund research
The agony of today is that knowing that, if not most, ALL films have bland theme songs. This film had a great soundtrack and was the GREATEST CHILDHOOD FANTASY FILM EVER. There is no other film that can top this film's originality and even years later as I turn 32 it stills captivates me. I certainly am told that this song is "gay" and that the film is "gay" but that only shows me one thing about such people - they like the crap of today - my love for the 80's is a NEVERENDING STORY!!!
@DetroitLove4U ..... i totally agree. i was 31 years old, with young kids of my own, and i was amazed at how well this movie was made, music included. (i'm also from your favorite place, sandusky, home of cedar point!)
@DetroitLove4U Thank you DetroitLove4U for being fearless in your humble perspective of this movie's influence and message that still guides my life today. This film was the greatest movie I've had the pleasure of viewing and while there have been other movies that have received greater acclaim and surpassed recognition this movie remains a classic.
@NYCBostero That movie was pure 80's awesomeness...you owe it to yourself to see it...a very imaginative movie, especially for the time it came out in...
I imagined the male singer to be some beautiful brunette woman for the last twenty-six years since I was six... Thanks for ruining my over a quarter of a century fantasy to whoever posted this. I feel like I just tried to woo a gorgeous woman I have loved from afar for years only for her to reveal herself to actually be a man and unlike what I imagined
@unclebrowny ----2 decades ago...boy I'm getting old. Yeah, sad but true. I had lots of crushes then, can only see them but not touch. wow. Still, I loved my life then.
This song is pure amazing!!! Just fantastic! The 80's sure was magical! Everyone should stick with this type of music, they don't make it anymore. There will never be greater music than the music from the 1980's!!! LOVE IT FOREVER AND EVER!!!
I was in LOVE with this song and ALL the Films when i was a kid :) good to hear and still enjoy childhood favourites! :D i LOVE his hair, itss awesome!
This takes me back to 1984, thank you for posting. I have searched everywhere for this version. Love it !!!! Love Never Ending Story, only need the first one. But , this song, Love IT !!
Oh get a break! This music is cool - it's at least music and I can't say this from the stuff what's made today in the charts > that sucks. And for the style; the fashion of the eighties is completely back in the scene nowadays!
I was being sarcastic about the other persons judgmental comments. I love this song, brings back childhood memories. By the way your reply to my comment was 4 weeks late.
if ANYONE here can actually get someone to have sex with you while this song is playing in the background , i will consider you a god and pray to you on sundays!!!!!!!!!
I did not think that a guy singed this song, I only heard the song not the music video so I thought it was a girl who was singing the main verses but when I saw this I was like omg!
After all these years I never knew this was a video,I just thought it was the movie soundtrack.I also thought the singer was a female. He has a good voice.
Never seen this music video in my life always saw the other one with clips from the movie. Legendary song!! 80's mystifying the best fantasy movie EVER ABOVE ALL with the most electrifying theme song for such a film ever produced. I was 6 in '84 when this came out and I have seen the movie like 150 times since. Never get tired of it. I have the soundtrack. When I think 80's this is one of the first things that comes to my mind. It's impression on me is truly "Neverending" thank you Germany!!!
I'm with you on that one. I was young when I first rented it. It had a pic of Atreyu sitting atop Falcor. I love the song. And I can sing to this one too!!!
yeah right!... that's grace jones singing, bono on percussion, ... and while your at it, looks like adam ant on guitar, and keyboard player looks like paul young.
In fact that's not even limahl singing there, it's chesney hawkes!
I always loved this song, and that black chick is soooo hot! Not so much a Donna Summer as a Nona Hendryx/Grace Jones thing going on there. I still have the "Don't Suppose" album.
You said it. Me...I had THE biggest man-crush on him when I was just in grade school. Just couldn't get over how beautiful Limahl was so beautiful back then!!
I love both videos. Yes, there are two. However, the first time I saw him sing this, he was singing it with a white girl on some talk show. So, now I am not sure who is doing the actual singing. That girl or this girl in the video. Also, not sure why there are two videos.
I was so young when this came out, man i was mesmerised by the girl in it, she was so pretty... Looking back now, hmmm, not so pretty. The song tho blew me away for months.. hearing it again.. still fantastic.. I knew some one who knew this guy aswell... Still fantastic song tho!!!
If only we could capture that magic again and bring back the sense of the impossible being possible. I think we desperately need that right now. Things are way too serious.
Books are the doorway to the mind. But the mind is the doorway to everything. There is no limit to where your creativity can take you.

I've never seen the movie, but I used to love this song (I'm man enought to admit it. I'm 33) ;)
I never knew the lead singer of Kajagoogoo sang this song.
Also this is Pre-Trance, IMO.

Thru the 80s and 90s I really believed that a female sang this until I saw this video....

Heh, me too. With that hair and those leather pants, I still wasn't fully convinced until I saw the stubble.

this is a Giorgio Moroder production. the same man who made Donna Summer'S I Feel Love.

I always loved this song, and that black chick is soooo hot! Not so much a Donna Summer as a Nona Hendryx/Grace Jones thing going on there. I still have the "Don't Suppose" album.

New wave music sure was different, wasn't it? It sort of just looks and sounds silly now, but back then it was RADICAL DUDE!!!!

I love both videos. Yes, there are two. However, the first time I saw him sing this, he was singing it with a white girl on some talk show. So, now I am not sure who is doing the actual singing. That girl or this girl in the video. Also, not sure why there are two videos.

If only we could capture that magic again and bring back the sense of the impossible being possible. I think we desperately need that right now. Things are way too serious.
