Thank you for the kind words and believe me hes a wonderful man as well as being very talented, you can always look him up on my space and there are a couple of songs on there which he sings as hes got a few albums hes written and sung on out.
Great song this, but I preferred the b-side of this single - Too Many People. It had a dreamy quality about it, and conjured up an image of an unreal world of pop stardom surrounded by hangers-on, and just wanting to escape. Somebody please upload this tune onto youtube!
I heard this song while shopping in Orchard Road in the 80s and straightaway buy the EP. The record was pretty expensive and I ended up without pocket money for a week. But is really worth it and I still kept the 45 RPM till today.
Classic pop band of the 60s, and this was a great song. Memories of being at school and listening each week to Pick of the Pops with Fluff Freeman, wondering if your favourite sound would make number 1. Pop at it's simplest and best, this one.

@laura4dad You are truly blessed. This is one of the finest pieces of songwriting in existence. It must be awesome to have a uncle who can write like this.
The pictures o the band have nothing to do with the song. Fox on the run came out 1969. There was an other line up. Mike D'abo was the singer. The pictures, you have shown are from the Blues - MM- Periode.
Great song. Brings back memory as this song remind me of when I was at school in the Science room back in the 60's and someone put this record on, on the record player and Mr Philip heard the record playing and stormed in the classrom and shouted at us saying "turn that bloody thing off". oh what a great I had at school.
Yeah, great memories! But Mike d'Abo, who was really an attractive Singer must be an old man now, just the same as all of us (probably even older)! I just can't believe how time flies.

LOL! I am Mr. 60's , Mr Manfred Mann; Yardbirds and so on, and, yet,
had never heard this. I Had only known it by Tom T. Hall or better yet,
by The Good Brothers (Magic Canadian Band).
This version may not be bluegrass, but it is super.
Love it.

Manfred wrote a good song - then the bluegrassers took it and made a classic out of it.

She walked through the corn leading down to the river...
Her hair shone like gold in the hot morning sun...
She took all the love that a poor boy could give her
And left me to die like the fox on the run...
