Must be great to grow your hair so long, and a great dilemma when you reach ankle length: keep it that length, and still be able to wear it down outside, but stop growing it longer, or keep growing it even longer then floor length, and enjoying your hair becoming longer and longer. her hair is here already longer than herself, so it's not good for her hair to wear it down outside

1984 is a good guess, I believe. Since long, sleek hair was considered "70s" and out of style back then, I think the pressure got too high on her to conform to fashion standards and to lose her mane - no matter how glorious and unique it was.

Some years later , however, her former long sleek style was back in fashion and very common again and continues to be.

Trends change, but for her pride to have record-length hair, it was the end... Such a mane does not grow back in a moment ...

Saw this documentary many years ago and was thunderstruck at Cindy's marvelous, silky hair. It took a LOT of dedication and patience to achieve such a fantastic head of hair..not to mention the length. Sorry she cut it..but since Dr. George Michael, famed "Czar of Long Hair" did the cutting, I know he cut it with love and understanding and did not treat it like garbage. Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!

There is the video of that on youtube too. Besides seeing her haircut, I was also shocked to see how haggard she looked - like she hadn't slept and eaten for weeks. So different compared to the video above where she looks radiant an in good mood and proud of her long hair.

What I understood was that she did it not because she wanted, but because of her husband. Obviously emancipation did not have a breakthrough in some areas back then ...
