@The word "original" as it applies in this context refers to the artist(s), NOT THE SONG ITSELF, in order to differentiate from any re-recordings of the song the artist may have made later.
@TheDp321 Yes, it is a "cover' as my comments attached to each post explains whenever it is, but the word "original" is important in the context of what is being posted since it is the "original" version by that artist and not a re-recording of the song by that artist (and there are many of those posted to YouTube). Some covers are equally good and perhaps even better recordings than the original recording of the song.
i am so glad to here this from Frankie . he was abit before my time but i feel like I had a lot in common with him. I am now in recovery hoping to some day be a fictional writer . i have written some songs but there they remain in my scrap book for now.!!

i think frankie lymon was like an early michael had he been discovered by motown he surely would have. He was the first with the "dancing" !! watch him live this guy was moving before anyone else. Sadly drugs got to him before motown did :(.
It was so sad that all the great 'DO WOP' groups and singers was taking advanage of by recorded companies...with drugs, alcohol etc...There should be more movies about the DO WOP singers and groups and how they were treated and then kick to the curb.
I was wondering something. Who was the first person or group to sing this? I've heard many different versions, but I want to know who the actual artist is or was.
Frankie Lymon had a natural voice...back then you had to really sing...you brought back so many good thoughts...i was one of the teenagers having such a good time...thanks nocaro.
As in a complete copy, adding absolutely nothing and taking away most of Thurston's wildness. And the band sounds like they were in a different room, to boot.
This is the version I downloaded off of Limewire over five years ago and it was incorrectly labelled "Jackson 5"! I have been trying to find out who this is for SO LONG. I feel really stupid now.
@emmaaum22 The notation of "original" applies only to the artist(s)' recording of the song, not necessarily the "first" time the song was ever recorded by anybody. The reason for doing this is to differentiate this version from re-recordings later on by the same artist. Quite often songs recorded prior to 1962 were originally recorded in mono and then later re-recorded by the same artist in stereo.
@Nocaro : I apologize and should have thought of that use of the word myself. I used to run an oldies collectors' shop ownsd by an old friend. With some big songs, we would have maybe 3 versions...a redo, a reissue and for the big spenders, the "original" label (sometimes even that was hard to determine as in a small label who might contract 3 different pressing plants and slight differences in the graphics. @Cornflake420 Most kids are doing it these days. I'm personally against doing any drugs or drinking any type of alcohol, but I know lots of people my age (high school) who do drugs.
This young man was one of the most amazing voices ever created! I have two sons that can sing I wonder if the get a little training if they can be this good! Lovin Frankie Lymon......
@SuperJazzymusic Two of the greatest for sure, but the one that really takes the cake was a 12-year old Brenda Lee. I have some early recordings by Brenda at that age which are almost mind-boggling, but unfortunately YouTube won't allow me to post them at the present time because of unresolved copyright issues. Maybe someday, but even when you hear her sing a song like "I'm Sorry" at the tender age of 15, you can get some idea. Thanks for the note...Lanny (Nocaro on YouTube)

@Nocaro Did you know that SAMMY DAVIS was singing & DANCING as a very young boy. He was one of the most talented Human Beings. He was just amazing! He acted, sang, danced & HE was the fasted Quick-draw ever known!!
yes he can sing his you know off, but he is no kid any more , but back in the day he was one of a kind and back in the day, they song with heart and soul and with meaning and with love, its hard to the same today, they dont care anymore for anything,
@Weblas0 Well, Frankie came along several years before Motown was even created, and his singing career was on the ropes by the time Motown got going. The guy that Motown recruited and I wish he had come but did not was Jackie Wilson who happened to be a good friend of Berry Gordy before Gordy started Motown.
Just recently realize what a standard this song is... Just saw The Doobie Brothers do it, and Huey Lewis and the News do it. Not a complicated song, obviously. But a happy, hip shaking song. Makes people happy. Doobies injected a full step up key change into it. Lengthened it a little. So great a song! Simple but absolutely mood elevating. We need more of these.
I've loved these gentlemen, and other performers of my parents' generation for as long as I can remember. I am 23 and am ashamed of almost every modern "musician". No lewd dancing to gain attention or distract; no controversial clothing; and musicians then SMILED when they performed. They didn't scowl the entire time, because it was the "cool" thing to do. Just honest talent and joy.
