I don't get it. Akainu gets his face smashed in by a giant gravitational force and his skull doesn't collapse..? I know science hasn't really been applied to One Piece but really. Lets say BB never had come along, how long would WB have survived with only half a head? I think he'd probably have ended up dying after that one regardless, BB just sped it up. In fact I think it's entirely possible WB just went on on pure haki after Akainu's headshot.
I think the reason his punches hurt so much cause he punches you in the soul thats why it dosent matter if ur made of water, fire ,magma,hell lets even throw wind in there.

Akainu managed to stay conscious after 3 direct hits from "The strongest man in the world". After getting severely beaten he still took on the entire remainder of the whitebeard crew by himself and was one of the very few characters who actually accomplished something during the war. I think as strong as Whitebeard is, this actualy shows that admirals are dangerous even to Yonko's.
Why?
Because Akainu actually struck a mortal blow, especially in the comics, where he blew off half of WB's head.
Lets say BB never had come along, how long would WB have survived with only half a head? I think he'd probably have ended up dying after that one regardless, BB just sped it up. In fact I think it's entirely possible WB just went on on pure haki after Akainu's headshot.

@swinabc : Akainu had barely received any wound during the war, whereas Whitebeard got fucked up pretty badly, not to mention he's old. And despite that, he still managed to kick Akainu's ass. Had Whitebeard been at full strength and stamina, he would have killed Akainu.

@OverLordRiper Whitebeard managed to defeat a marine admiral despite hundreds of wounds, his age and his condition. After taking that attack that got Ace he still kept fighting. Akainu managed to stay conscious after 3 direct hits from "The strongest man in the world". After getting severely beaten he still took on the entire remainder of the whitebeard crew by himself and was one of the very few characters who actually accomplished something during the war. Neither are bitches.

@Chewychucky The only reason Akainu is alive is because of plot armor,as Oda himself stated,so he can't exactly boast about it,just as Luffy only survived his encounters with Crocodile because hes the main character.If Akainu wasn't important to the plot,he would have died here,and also its a bit of BS how he took EVERYONE one,Marco is more then enough to hold him off,let alone with all the other haki users in the crew.Akainu is my favorite admiral,but hes a piece of crap.

It would've been silly to expect him to be outright killed but almost any other character would've at least been put out of action for the rest of the battle. Also, it wasn't likely that he could've beaten the entire whitebeard crew single-handedly, but he challenged them all at once to try and get to luffy which is far more than any other navy officers did.
