Selbst am Ende merkt der 1WO das das Regime nicht alles ist, sondern das da mehr zählt, als nur die Nazi´s und ihre Ideologie und gerade das zeigt der Film mehr als deutlich.

In my opinion Das Boot is the best war film, and at the same time also the best anti-war film. It shows that there are no winners, only losers regardless who you fight for. An outstanding piece of cinema - simply brilliant. Bravo!

Die haben auch einige Sätze völlig umgeschrieben, damit das Ami-Publikum die Mannschaft bloß als Nazis wahrnimmt und nicht als Deutsche. Movie wa sfilmed in sequence ( that is rare) No one could go out in the light. No one could shave. They were actually and intended to be sequencually and regressively disheveled as the film rolled along. It added to the reality I think it worked.
