So there is only one pattern for both the left and right foot?

yep... just one cause you will notice it doesn't aim left or right... stays equal

the reason is a baby's foot isn't shaped yet like an older child.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't say it... but in booties it's not about ergonomically correct footwear!
