Many thanks for uploading. I love videos of bygone Scottish railways (the Beeching victims being my favorites). As a Scottish Rail lover, I always feel a slight connection, especially when a steam loco or 1st Gen DMU is present!
6 July 2010 - Brilliant video! I was very interested to read that your Grandad was born in Rollo Villa - we rented it every August from 1953 until about 1993 (creatures of habit!). We missed one year as it was up for sale - so we rented Roselea (where your Great Grandfather lived!). We spent many an hour watching the trains go by the back window of Rollo Villa - and of course the washing green was actually on the other side of the tracks! Memories ...
@staneford. My father had the Golf Hotel in Elie (1947-1968) and I remember the Crusoe well (Friday's footprint). Also have great memories of lock-ins at the Railway Inn.
Yes, it was a covered shelter. It was possible to sit inside or on the outside as well. No car park then though. My granddad who was born in the temple (Rollo Villa) told me that the fishermen used to dry their nets here. The low set building adjacent was formerly a fishing net factory.
Ian, I finally made it back to Lower Largo and Lundin Links in August, staying a few nights at the Crusoe Hotel. I thought the place had changed very little, and was magical. I swear if I listened very carefully I could still hear the sound of the trains.......

Ian, you have posted a lovely film of a different age, but one I can claim to remember as we always had holidays in Lower Largo and Lundin Links until the railway closed. I've been back a few times down the years, the last being for my 50th birthday in 2007.
I seem to recall the square building at 2:43 but can't place it.....would love to know!
Great video, did this line go to St Andrews? When my best friend went to Uni there (1999-2003)there was a campaign to re-open the line? Which I think is good for Students,(seems hard to get there without a car and Hall's parking is hard to get) tourists and locals (
@cleckheatoncentral Yes, the St Andrews station was close to the bus station, and the cutting in which it sat is a series of car parks for the town. The campaign to re-open the line is still going!
Trips to Largo are among the happiest memories on my childhood, even if mine came ten years and more after this film. What a thrill to see the railway, which up until now has been difficult for me to imagine even if the track remains obvious. And what a scandal to close it down. Happy days Ian, the boy on the train, and thank you for sharing this.
Unfortunately not. My parents and grandparents are all buried in Upper Largo Cemetry. My great grandfather (John Bell) lived at Roselea which is at the Temple in Lower Largo. The house appears on the film on 2 occasions

Hello
I am a previous owner of the Crusoe Hotel and your films are really superb.
I was there from 1980-1986. Not the best period.

Keith, I think that building was a bus shelter or covered shelter in what is now the car park near Largo House at the start of "the temple"
