Eric Stewart is better than Page (Led Zep) on guitar, I think; I see a little Harrison (Beatles), Clapton (Cream), Howe (Yes) in this guy. ...and better looking than all of 'em put together - a real decent chap!
The ultimate best sound/songs well copied by Queen!
Who can say Queen have their original own sound? Listen to this album and make your own conclusions. Sorry Freddie. You did love the 10cc sound and multitracking innovative Eric Stewart productions.
"Flying Junk" may have shocked people in different countries to shrink back from the damn stupid Heroin scene - sometimes songs are better than ever moralistic politicians !
@neil73 I saw Graham Gouldman's touring version of 10cc earlier this year and the pre-gig music was, of course, Steely Dan's Greatest Hits! I don't think either band would mind the comparison: high production values, virtuoso musicianship, killer tunes and sardonic humour...helluva package.
@skylarking31 Certainly not many bands around these days like this. A shame that the original 4 will never work together again. Still, 40th anniversary fast approaching, so I could be wrong.

@Asilazi yep that's Eric Stewart, the guy who used to be in the mindbenders. then again, Graham Gouldman was in the band at the end of their run as well
'Blackmail' is one of the cleverest 10cc album tracks, ahead of its time. It's perfect for the celebrity-obsessed, 'Hello' magazine times of the 21st century.
I was 8 years old when i got the album bloody tourists from my older sister for my birthday.
After that i went 10CC idiot, bought all there music, but the best albums came from the original band, like this one, the Paris songs on this one are really breathtaking.
After the breakup they still made really good music tho, including godley and creme, "an englishman in new york" is like way out so good.
TNX for the post man, got everything on album so looking often for new 10CC stuff.
@Geritopia your not the only one,I adore this track, reminds me of my visits to London in the 70's,great times, there is a live version of this but not released officially off the king biscuit live album, its fantastic, the whole album rocks.
Great songs. There is a backward message at 5.59, very faint but it's there.

Madly underrated!

10cc could go from silly to sublime and everything in between. One of the most talented yet unrated bands ever.

10cc were years ahead of their time. One night in Paris and Blackmail are just as good now as then and better than most of the crap heard these days.

10cc were compared to steely Dan, back in the day.
I have my own theory that they did this track as a kind of parody of Steely Dan, just to piss off the critics!
I could be wrong, but next time I bump into Eric Stewart or Graham Gouldman, I'll ask!lol!

That guitar solo in Blackmail is a ripper. Whos playing that? the one guy who I think used to be in the group, the mindbenders?

@yankeear I think it's Eric Stewart on a steel guitar

I just uploaded it...time will tell.

@Asilazi 'Flying Junk' is almost like an early David Bowie track - if Bowie had recorded this, all the musos would say it was an all time classic.
10cc never got the proper recognition their talent deserved.
