XBOX 360 CONTROLLER ON VISTA

So guess I can't use my regular XBOX 360 wired controller that came with my Xbox 360. I plugged it into my vista usb slot. The driver downloaded and said the xbox contoller is ready to go. But when I got to game controllers. It doesn't read my controller

. Do I have to buy a Windows Xbox 360 controller.. Because on my vista 32bit it reads in device manager as "microsoft common controller for window class"

Hey sparx, did you need to download any additional software to get the controller working?

I'm considering buying a wired controller for my pc as I want to use it in GTA IV, and other racing games such as GRID, DiRT, and SHIFT.

yes it does all i done was plug it in then it installed the drivers automatically and it just worked

what os are you using because all you have to do is plug it in the usb slot and then it downloads & installs the drivers automatically

heres the deal. you need to buy the one that is designed for windows xp. not the one that you buy for the xbox 360. i tried the one that came with 360 and it didnt work. i bought the xp one and used it on my vista and it works fine
