The truth is the old original top gear of the 70s,80s and 90s was the best. It was a sensible car review show. Now its just three twats smashing things up or doing pointless tasks, and when they do review a car it is done in such a stupid way that you end up not knowing if the car was any good half the time. 5th gear tries to keep the original top gear sensible review format, but even that now has to emulate the modern top gear. Btw this OZ version is horrible.

There are quite a few pommy shows aired in Australia including the U.K. Top Gear which is a good entertaining show to watch, even though sometimes they can get on your nerves. In my opinion there aren't many other British shows as good to watch as most American shows. But I suppose there are lots of Australians with different tastes.
agreed in some respects, i hope to god u dont get to watch some of our soaps their beyond terrible. I searched, and maybe I was looking too hard for positivity, but most of what I found was what I have been saying- The show wasn't going to be great starting off and would need time to develop, it will get there. 4 sites I visited off Google said it had promise and the chemistry would grow like in TGUK. Maybe I should look for more but I'll leave it at that :P

I'm Aussie, and based on the one episode I've watched, it's boring. The reasons I belive are:
1) We've had our expectations raised by the original show that has a cast which has more experience, better interpersonal interaction, and funnier lines.
2) The cars tested in the UK are more interesting (more variety, stuff we don't see - can't buy in oz)
3) Bigger budget production (slicker, more money for travel and "stunts")
UK is waaaaay better and the 3 presenters are alot funnier and just generally better in front of the camera. Ide take 3 james may's even over our 3 boring morons. Where the hell did they come from? There are plenty of Aussies who would have made better presenters.
You can even see the ppl at the recordings look bored and like they would rather be somewhere else.
Hopefully they either get some new presenters soon or bin it altogether.

You people need to understand that this will take a while to grow and develop. Top Gear Australia will be fine if it is given a chance to succeed. We have few high end cars here compared to the UK and im already sick of fords and commodores and there on again next week already, no where near the budget, CRAP presenters, No easy access to Europe like the UK has with the cool shows from Iceland ect so basically it sucks.

So let's look at some of the cars they've had. Lamborghini, not Austraian, BMW X6, not Australian, GT40 RHD, not Australian. Just because it is in Australia doesn't mean it is limited to Aussie cars, the cars they drive will be the ones available to us of which alot is the same as what Euro get.
Next week isn't Ford and Holden, it is one of Holden's powerful cars which (I think) they are going to produce. If it is fast, test it. BTW, Australia has every terrain you want that Europe has.

I don't know if you know or not but the Holdens are becoming more and more world cars as we go on, Australia does build top quality cars and to keep our industry alive, they must be shown to the public.

The presenters are getting better and as they get more feedback they will improve. Your feedback, however, won't help anyone.

A review of the Sydney Motor Show by The Motor Report blog showed many high end cars in Aus. I think that we will see many of these exotic cars come to Aus soon enough.
I suggest that you watch (not read what others say) the latest Episode which showed that the presenters has come a long way since Day One.

I did watch it. I ment from reading others opinions. Write Top Gear Australia into google and there are probably 50 pages where 90% of ppl are saying its no good.
And yes i think what 90% of ppl think is right. Obviously not with science but when it comes to opinions then majority wins.
On the blog I mentioned before, a poll is running. My interpretation is that about 60% think the show needs a little tweaking. 36% want major change and 4% undecided. The value of these results depends on the amount of votes but the blog is pretty popular so I think they're fair.
Chances are, people who like the show can't be bothered with arguing with people like you who aren't constructive, just quick to complain.
If you want to argue with numbers, show some real figures and then argue.

1. Get presenters that know about cars, are funny, and have a dynamic together. Not like the guys we have.
2. Get some decent cars and give them a proper test. Not ramblings for 10 mins then no result. Or like the stupid ford holden test not just a drag and brake test while comparing an 8 to a 6.
3. Go bush and use it. First episode should of been some epic race across the nullabor or something not the crap we got.

Watched it last night... It was awful, I watched with with an open mind, and ready to give it a go. But I was forcing myself to do it after the first 15 minutes.
When they were driving the 4wds, they didn't even talk about the cars they were driving!

I think the issue that will avoid it getting better over time is that they have tried to copy a already polished product so in a way in the wow factor it will actually need to go back to basics to recover and allow them to make the show themselves. By using the same format as the British show and hoping these guys on their merits can copy the british ones has exposed their lack of experience and was a big mistake. Thats not what the show should be about and thats not Australian!!

I thought it was good overall. The presenters will need to "loosen up" a bit. Obvious nerves, especially from Charlie in the studio who had a case of the nervous shout/yell. I think they all have good potential, once they become more comfortable with the show and each other.
Its impossible and not good to embrace the idea of copying personalities. There isn't necessarily anything wrong with the presenters, the fact they have been obviously forced to copy the UK ones is the biggest downfall.

I watched the first ep tonight with the greatest amount of objectivity I could muster, but I have to say it didn't win me over. It's not too bad but sbs better keep showing the uk version, maybe before the aussie one. Otherwise i doubt it'll last much longer.

Ok i guess. The problem is that they are trying to be like the Uk presenters and it comes across quite fake. They should be themselves and not try to copy the other guys and see where the show goes from there. Could be a bit risky but possibly will get more of the aussie crowd on their side.
I watched the first episode and I'm sorry to say but it was fuck'n boring. To similar to the UK version. I can honestly say I almost fell asleep while watching it. They better step it up otherwise it will be axed before it even gets going.
Yeah it wasn't the best episode of Top Gear ever, but it was their first run and it will take a bit to get them settled. All three hosts looked a little nervous infront of the crowd and probably talked a bit too much, too quickly. They needed to just relax and be themselves.
When they did the outdoor challenges they were themselves and seemed like they had a ball. I enjoyed that and hope we see more of it in later episodes.
I thought the first episode was pretty good. There's certainly some potential there. It will take a while for chemistry to develop - same as UK version did. I'm glad to see that they've got a serious budget too. Of course the armchair experts on the internet have the knives out already which always happens when something gets copied but I see this as more of a 'localization' - it's the same production crew. Looking forward to US TG w/ Adam Carolla too - he's great.

Not only that but he also needs to figure out how to finish a damn grand prix without pulling out one of his amazing DNFs. Kinda half the reason I watch the F1 now to see how Webber is going to manage to get out of the race early.

Just because it is Australian doesn't mea that they have to have Aussie cars on all the time. Look at all the Aussie motoring Magazines, yes Ford and Holden are a big part, but they have a large amount of international cars; the same applies here.

looks good. People who think its a carbon copy of the brit version should really shut the fuck up. Whilst they may employee the same attitude towards cars and having fun, its more about the relationship between the presenters and how they are able to convey it to the audience in a uniquely Australian way.
Don't know why they're making this, and also why they're making the American version to be honest, obviously they're never going to be as good as the British version, and making these will just detract ideas away for the British version.
Still, can't wait to see Jezza, Hamster and Captain slow take on the australian/american versions in challenges cause the German challenge was awesome.

I searched, and maybe I was looking too hard for positivity, but most of what I found was what I have been saying- The show wasn't going to be great starting off and would need time to develop, it will get there. 4 sites I visited off Google said it had promise and the chemistry would grow like in TGUK. Maybe I should look for more but I'll leave it at that :P

I'm Aussie, and based on the one episode I've watched, it's boring. The reasons I belive are:
1) We've had our expectations raised by the original show that has a cast which has more experience, better interpersonal interaction, and funnier lines.
2) The cars tested in the UK are more interesting (more variety, stuff we don't see - can't buy in oz)
3) Bigger budget production (slicker, more money for travel and "stunts")
So why try and copy something best left alone?

UK is waaaaay better and the 3 presenters are alot funnier and just generally better in front of the camera. Ide take 3 james may's even over our 3 boring morons. Where the hell did they come from? There are plenty of Aussies who would have made better presenters.
You can even see the ppl at the recordings look bored and like they would rather be somewhere else.
Hopefully they either get some new presenters soon or bin it altogether.

So let's look at some of the cars they've had. Lamborghini, not Austraian, BMW X6, not Australian, GT40 RHD, not Australian. Just because it is in Australia doesn't mean it is limited to Aussie cars, the cars they drive will be the ones available to us of which alot is the same as what Euro get.
Next week isn't Ford and Holden, it is one of Holden's powerful cars which (I think) they are going to produce. If it is fast, test it. BTW, Australia has every terrain you want that Europe has.

I don't know if you know or not but the Holdens are becoming more and more world cars as we go on, Australia does build top quality cars and to keep our industry alive, they must be shown to the public.
Yeah I do think that we will see those exotic cars that you mention, if the companies want them shown on the program; which they will if/when it gets a good reputation.
The presenters are getting better and as they get more feedback they will improve. Your feedback, however, won't help anyone.

A review of the Sydney Motor Show by The Motor Report blog showed many high end cars in Aus. I think that we will see many of these exotic cars come to Aus soon enough.
I suggest that you watch (not read what others say) the latest Episode which showed that the presenters has come a long way since Day One.
I'll 'ass kiss' all I want to keep this show going and get better for it to prove to you 'people who like cars' wrong.

On the blog I mentioned before, a poll is running. My interpretation is that about 60% think the show needs a little tweaking. 36% want major change and 4% undecided. The value of these results depends on the amount of votes but the blog is pretty popular so I think they're fair.
Chances are, people who like the show can't be bothered with arguing with people like you who aren't constructive, just quick to complain.
If you want to argue with numbers, show some real figures and then argue.

1. Get presenters that know about cars, are funny, and have a dynamic together. Not like the guys we have.
2. Get some decent cars and give them a proper test. Not ramblings for 10 mins then no result. Or like the stupid ford holden test not just a drag and brake test while comparing an 8 to a 6.
3. Go bush and use it. First episode should of been some epic race across the nullabor or something not the crap we got.

The aust version had such an awesome opportunity to base their show, but it just didn't happen....don't get me wrong, I was certainly happy and agreed with an aussie version when I saw the ads on tv, but the show just didn't do it for me....

Watched it last night... It was awful, I watched with with an open mind, and ready to give it a go. But I was forcing myself to do it after the first 15 minutes.
When they were driving the 4wds, they didn't even talk about the cars they were driving!
It all seemed so wooden and forced..
I actually felt sorry for everyone involved.
And a whole episode dedicated to Holden Vs Ford next week? Count me out, there are better cars out there! God, as if we don't see enough commodores vs falcons!

I say give the show time it may get better. The main thing i love about BTG is the fact its worldwide broadcasting, and they got europe as a playground. I just hope they dont do all teh filming in australia, they have to do soem huge race or something in NEwZealnd or SEasia, or antartica, they are close and hopeully they will be used

I think the issue that will avoid it getting better over time is that they have tried to copy a already polished product so in a way in the wow factor it will actually need to go back to basics to recover and allow them to make the show themselves. By using the same format as the British show and hoping these guys on their merits can copy the british ones has exposed their lack of experience and was a big mistake. Thats not what the show should be about and thats not Australian!!

I thought it was good overall. The presenters will need to "loosen up" a bit. Obvious nerves, especially from Charlie in the studio who had a case of the nervous shout/yell. I think they all have good potential, once they become more comfortable with the show and each other.

Yeah it wasn't the best episode of Top Gear ever, but it was their first run and it will take a bit to get them settled. All three hosts looked a little nervous infront of the crowd and probably talked a bit too much, too quickly. They needed to just relax and be themselves.
When they did the outdoor challenges they were themselves and seemed like they had a ball. I enjoyed that and hope we see more of it in later episodes.

I thought the first episode was pretty good. There's certainly some potential there. It will take a while for chemistry to develop - same as UK version did. I'm glad to see that they've got a serious budget too. Of course the armchair experts on the internet have the knives out already which always happens when something gets copied but I see this as more of a 'localization' - it's the same production crew. Looking forward to US TG w/ Adam Carolla too - he's great.

Not only that but he also needs to figure out how to finish a damn grand prix without pulling out one of his amazing DNFs. Kinda half the reason I watch the F1 now to see how Webber is going to manage to get out of the race early.

Just because it is Australian doesn't mea that they have to have Aussie cars on all the time. Look at all the Aussie motoring Magazines, yes Ford and Holden are a big part, but they have a large amount of international cars; the same applies here.
I wish people would stop judging the look of this show before they see a whole episode. Give the boys a chance, if they don't deliver then you may fire away.

I really have never understood the rivalry between Holden and Ford and which one is the best OZ car maker when they are both ultimately yank companies unfortunately. Not trying to be an ass, just my point of view.
