It is not a great movie. The plot is obvious and if you are fan of gore, there are plenty and better options. I did not think the deaths were as horrible, they were less graphic than many of regular horror movies. The innocent girl renting a shack for the weekend in the middle of nowhere? Even the the shears scene was not big deal, it could have besn worse, sometimes trying to be too graphic can spoil it. Implied violence can be as worse. Watch Sudden Impact (1983), better option.

War movies, Westerns and some others, they can be watched anytime and they are comparable. Gore and horror, even cops movies, they follow the sense of what shocks people of their times. The Exorcist was an example of a movie way ahead its time.
