  • I don't think i have ever seen Dave or Paul enjoy a band as much as that.

  • true fact, the keyboardist from The Cat Empire and the drummer from the Temper Trap went to the same school. As did the trumpeter from Hunters and Collectors.

  • AC/DC (the biggest band in the world) ; the Bee Gees (inventors of disco) ;Savage Garden; Crowded House; Little River Band; Midnight Oil; Rick Springfield - just a few you may have heard of.

  • 420Sabbath = gay.

  • bloody brilliant! I love the cat empire so much <3

  • I don't give a fuck about Peyton manning!!!

  • Aw, Felix is so cute when he shakes Letterman's hand, he's all happy and then becomes slightly dejected.

  • they should have played fishies :D

  • @scientificallyunstab Yeah, except that, at point the song wasn't written, and wouldn't be for 3 years. Haha :)

  • @MegaLlamas1 Hahaha, ok, that is a fair enough excuse

  • "There we go. Now it's a party for God sakes." David Letterman

  • 6 emos hate this and hate life..

two shoes is their best song.

  • lol, look at jumps on the tambourine. He's getting after it

  • if you didnt know what Paul Shafer was on about, he was quoting, and trying to sound like Dan Akroyd in the 1980 music film the Blues Brothers... :)

  • I didn't think much of the current australian music scene until I went to woodford folk festival.

  • This is the only time I've seen someone do nothing but play tambourine a whole song and not look like a waste of space on stage lol

  • damn... dude's got some HAIRY ARMS!

  • The trumpeter went to my school ^-^

  • @seximodSlasheTTe MINE TOO! :O

  • @Megallegro McK? Sweet :)

  • I think the lead singer needs to shave his arms! He's a gorrilla

  • @LituusOne he's Mediterranean, that's what he is haha.

  • @LituusOne I think hes fucking stoned xD

  • im australia and i feel pround these guys got on david letter man! there even more amazing live

  • poor jumps... suck without his decks...

  • i love the rocking out on the tamborine behind him

  • @limosince2007 he's the dj in the band, but this song doesnt have that so he just played percussion. he's awesome haha. cant wait to see em tonight

  • *orgasm*

  • What the hell was the alopecian to the left on about?

  • That would be the village idiot known as Paul Shaffer. Good musician, smart man but is a shocking comedian and should just shut up.

  • @Idolsofwood he is the DJ normally, but he couldn't take his stuff on tour because it was too hard. if thats what your talking about

  • @Handouke he had Djing stuff.... he doesn't need it for Sly.

  • @fraserbremner True that brother

  • Pretty sure the audience got their ass funked out that night :D

  • like this song

  • That hat is definitely a nod to Brian Johnson of ACDC.

  • @Moravidd

Lots of people wear those hats man, Thats like saying sunglasses are a nod to joe satriani

  • I love this band! It's funny how the keyboardist looks constipated in every video (and the 1 live show) i've seen.

  • seen em, they were sik

  • haha love the DJ just dancing in the back

  • he is pretty cool!

  • show lounge show band show..lounge

  • I love them I love them I love them! I wish they would've picked a different song to perform tho...

  • Is anyone with me when I say The CBS Orchestra horn section should have gotten involved like they do with some other bands that are on Letterman?

  • The cat empire has their own horn section. the band has about 10 members most of the time.

  • Dude with the tambourine has a fairly easy gig...

  • He is their DJ usually

  • haha so true

  • I love 'em. Do wish, though, that they'd do more touring in the US..

  • Awesome!

  • the way they perform the song now is so much better then that performance and the piano solo in the recording is SWEET!!

  • The Cat Empire is truly amazing, oh man! they have so much talent, and their songs are just so great on so many levels, it makes me shiver when i hear their songs.

  • damn your a steamong pile of shit

  • damn, you got me

    haha

  • Music's pretty good. I can't understand most of what the guy is singing, though.

  • i love felix

  • lol the tambourine guy dancing!

  • not much good music comes out of aus but when it does, it's fucking incredible

  • @420Sabbath “not much good music comes out of aus.” With all due respect, have you actually looked into that? You’ve usually got to dig a little deeper to find the real quality, no matter where you are.

Perth and Melbourne both have amazing music scenes.

I don’t know your style, but look into these acts: The Temper Trap, Karnivool, The Presets, Sarah Blasko, Birds of Tokyo, Eskimo Joe, Augie March, The Getaway Plan, Xavier Rudd. Then tell me that not much good music comes out of Aus.

  • 420Sabbath: “not much good music comes out of aus.” With all due respect, have you actually looked into that? You’ve usually got to dig a little deeper to find the real quality, that’s true of everywhere.

  • @Whanous Most of the aussie rock bands sound the same nowdays, people seem to like the sound though. The cat empire are one of the extra special bands, these guys are all very talented. Augie march etc are good musicians but they aren't amazing at all. Still good stuff though.

  • @Whanous : Also The Living End!

  • Comment removed

  • @Whanous the temper trap are aussies?? cool :-)

  • @Whanous Eskimo Joe...lets not get hasty. Tame impala, now there's a winner.

  • @Whanous Fuck yeah Karnivool.

  • @Whanous They are alright, the cat empire have loads of talent though. Most of those bands follow pretty basic trends. The cat empire are just extra special was all i was trying to say, i watch loads of good local acts all the time, but honestly most people can play that level. Probably why there is a huge demand for the cat empire worldwide everywhere and not so much with the bands you mentioned. (worldwide remember, not just western countries)

  • @Whanous He said comes out of aus... as in its gotta get out, make it big and reach us here and not many aussie bands do that..

but obviously there are plenty of incredible bands in australia i listen to a great deal (even metal bands, theres a lot in aus) but they dont usually break and unless you go looking for them you rarely hear about them..

  • @Whanous what about Brisbane's music scene. just as good as Perth's

  • @Whanous and Cold Chisel <3 oh yeah and AC/DC but cold chisel <3

  • @Whanous I very much concur, and add Jet, The Living End, silverchair, Hilltop Hoods, Empire of the Sun, Gyroscope, Alex Lloyd, Missy Higgins, John Butler Trio, British India, Ben Lee, Pnau, Kate Miller-Heidke...

You gotta do some digging, but once you do... phwoar. :) Maybe that's one of the great things about it - like decent Australian beer, we keep the really good stuff for ourselves and those curious enough to dig below the surface.

  • 'not much good music comes out of aus' Der . what planet are you on?

  • @Whanous you just expanded my already quite extensive (imho) musical tastes and for that i thank you and reward you with this tip - check out LaBlogotheque

  • @420Sabbath Actually quite a lot of good music comes out of Australia it's just that because they're not AFL or Rugby players, politicians, saving the whales etc, the muso's have to go elsewhere to make a name for themselves.

  • @420Sabbath There are a lot of great Aussie bands that people just don't know are Australian. Our music industry is actually pretty amazing, which is surprising considering how much our film and TV industry is suffering. Music is important to Australians and local acts do well. If only we could get most of the Australian people to care as much about our film industry.

  • @420Sabbath

    Pendulum, Kasabian, Cat Empre?

  • @ArchieLuxtonGB

kasabian is from britain, but true for the others.

  • @420Sabbath AC/DC, PARKWAY DRIVE, CROWDED HOUSE......mate a lot of fucking huge bands come out of australia

  • is it just me or does the lead look like a younger richard gere

  • I completely agree. 100%

  • this isnt rock and roll and i am actually surprised he played this nice song in jis show... i hate this show with a passion

  • oh god i love the lead! he's so gorgeously sexy and talented!

  • yeah. felix is a babe

  • haha nice dance moves there

  • Indeed I am! I don't know if he still does or not, but he won a competition (based on talent) and it was announced on Ten News.

  • paul is the funniest guy out hey. and the shows success is bassed a heap on there on screen relationship

  • Personally I like Al Kaulter, but Paul's just downright hilarious. And some guy from Frankston used to write Daves jokes

  • Are you talking about the Frankston near melbourne frankston. cause if you are thats hilarious

  • They weren't as good as usual, but usually they're amazing so this was still good.

  • yeah you could tell they were missing their horn section and turntables

  • can someone give the song on trumpet i dont know any of it add me if you know it please.

  • SHOWband, SHOWlounge

  • who knows the notes to the trumpet part, i cant figure out the last phrase of the melody thing

  • Ahhhhh I love TCE!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • "Some great rock and roll music"?? who gave him that information

  • That guy is such a badass. I love this band so much. and I just started listening to them. They are amazing. This is definitely my fav song by them so far.

  • i love them .

  • SHOWband, SHOWlounge...

  • great piano....

  • Ollie (Dude on piano) looks like a meaner, younger, more piano-y Neil Young! No idea why I think that, he just does.

  • fuck i want felix

  • Is that Ryan on bass or someone else...?

  • I'm not sure. Doesn't really look like him though

  • It's definitely Ryan =)

  • God their so confident all of em I love them

  • lol at Paul at the end. That guy cracks me up.

  • the pianoist is relly into the songs, just lok at his face.

looks like he swallowed a lemon at birth, lol.

  • Too true, I love it haha

  • This song rocks!!! It is awesome!!!

  • Fantastic!

  • not as good as usuall...jumps and felixs only did half of the jelly leg dance :(

I saw the live last year man i love this song./...sont really like the new album

  • damn... i'can believe the cat empire is on david letterman... they're going big!!!

  • These guys are absolutely fantastic. Their shows are so full of energy and last forever. they cover so much and so many different genres in one show that everyone's exhausted but so much fun!

They can samba their way into my hear any day.

  • Saw them live last year, it was soooo amazing.

  • They look and sound a bit nervous, don't they?

Not nearly as relaxed as on their music video made back home.

  • if you ever have a chance to see them, fucking do it!

i saw them last night, and this song was performed better then this

  • Letterman Sucks Big Time, whatsamatter, they got nothin else to show on CBS

  • Felix came to our school production. I shook his hand :D

  • Thats awesome

i shook harry's, felix's, jumps and oli!(concert) soo pyshed i git a fully signed (all of them) cd (first album) I <3 it!!

  • it's like show band, show lounge, show band...thank you paul...

  • Very nice.

  • "Rock and roll band"... god i hate david letterman sometimes...

  • Good to see an Aussie band from the Big-V making it onto a show like David Letterman. Would have been great for publicity like someone said earlier. Good on em!

  • Just learning of this band. Amazing. Will see you tomorrow night in Minneapolis. WOW!! Love your music.

  • Great rock and roll music... huh? David is a bit duh-duh stoopid sometimes. Oh we'll, good for the Cat's publicity being on the show.

  • Man, I've been following the Empire ever since they were playing down at the vibe cafe in St.Kilda in their early days.

I'm glad to see they made it onto letterman, but as a fan, I've been pretty much turned off by the diluted musical quality of their music. Their earlier stuff, even the stuff on the original CD just had far more complicated melodies, actually gave time for solos, etc. Two Shoes and the latest EP just really don't do it for me anymore.

    *sigh*

  • I love this song!! It makes me want to dance!!!

  • I love sca but this shit blows that shit away. i like the whole latin jazz meets ska its a cool sound.

  • It's odd. I usually like these fusion artists, but cat empire just doesn't do it for me. It's almost as if they try to hard to be different and end up just pulling out a load of quirky tricks and little depth. I'm not knocking these guys, it's just that everyone has to like them and I just don't.

  • what ska?

  • they are ska influenced....but that covers alot.

  • Paul is a moron

  • More Cowbell!!!!!

  • I'm normally a metal person... but this music really speaks to me. It tells me to be happy :)

  • same :P

  • Play it Tambourine man!!!!!!!!

  • he makes me moist...

  • me too. and i'm a guy.

  • I agree with LGempire, nothin comprared to real live stuff. They don't have time to get into it on the DL show. Not a fan of the DL show in general actually for excactly that reason.

    Cat Empire rock though!

  • so much charisma

  • The Cat Empire are my favourite band and I've been following them and seeing them live for years. Sorry but they sucked a bit on Letterman. It's nothing compared to them live and Felix was puting on some sort of strange voice?! Also, I miss TCE Horns!

  • I agree wtf was up with Felix's voice if the TCE were thre then that would have been kick arse but seriously not as good as normal

  • i saw them live on the weekend and it was so much fun there was some awsome dancing going on

  • Mmmm Felix...

  • Man he looks happy to be singin' this song. Great to see a band have fun.

  • Haha ska no way mate...its a mixture of alot of things...Latin music is a big part of it but yeah they realy just have their own sound which is what every band should strive for instead of caring what genre they come under,

  • they are ska latin and rock they said so on myspace

  • I think they are good. But I would not classify them as Ska. They can call themselves all they want but they have too few ska elements to be consider ska. They are practically dub. This song however has a Blues Brothers aspect.

  • they have a good ska following in Aus, yeah.. but they really grew up with jazz, thats what they are trying to play, jazz infused with reggea dub, some ska, and in some songs cuban influences, but mostly jazz mixed with something simaler

  • It doesn't matter what the genre is, as long as you like the music.

  • i agree!!!

  • fantastic. great band and music, sadly underated.

  • what genre does this classify under, i heard it as ska, but i can't really feel it.

  • supposedly reggae. but it's so unique you can't really put it under a genre
