  • the detuing ws nice

  • wow i thought SRV was the best guitar player, haveing second thoughts now

  • nice going cousin

  • Hi JP - Looking forward to your return sometime soon. Hope you and Hilda have a great 2010! See you again soon.

  • I had the privilege of playing with JP at the 1st Kempt Shore Acoustic Festival. Being a retired RCMP officer and part time musician, t'was an honor to jam with such an accomplished musician. At breakfast that day JP mentioned that if not for his music, he would have liked to join the RCMP to serve his country. I've also enjoyed his company at campfire settings where he is a quiet chap, and an excellent mentor to young musicians. Slurring this fine gentleman's character is unfair and unjust.

  • I'm not sure who "Spoonieluv" is, but I'm sure I was never at his house, nor do I drink 24 beers at a sitting!! This type of rumor is causing me a lot of trouble these days and keeping me from getting work! People are taking my stage jokes about drinking seriously!! Those people who actually know me, know the truth. Could we have some of those people talk about me for a change please!! Love to you all.

    JP

  • Great pwrformance this man got talent.

I saw JP walking his dog today, what a great FEMA

  • grey skies are gonna clear up put on a happy face =_)))

  • Watching this again after reading the comments and the piano player is EXCELLENT! That "style" of accompaniment is unique to this type of music. A guitar, maybe with a fiddle, and that "two handed" style of playing chords....takes me back to playing in French Clubs. Thanks for posting.

  • Wow you remind me so much of my good friend Bobby Cormier formerly of Fitchburg Ma., and now part of God's Chorus. Bob was from your part of the world, so I gotta ask if there's any relation. This's a great performance and thanks for posting it. My father was from Chetticamp, and I've grown up listening to this music. Gotta love it.

  • Absolutely great performance even though i'm not keen on the keyboard, don't get me wrong she plays ok it's just that these electronic pianos sound pretty bad...

  • he's playing a LSV11 LARRIVEE

  • Just so you know, The tunes: Beaumont Rag, Fisher's Hornpipe, and the Cottonwood Reel. The Guitar: LSX-36C Yamaa, and HIlda (pianist) is one of the founders of Cape Breton style piano playing and is emulated by most celtic players. Also, the "out of time" thing blamed on Hilda, is something we do every night. It's part of the performance meant to be humorous. Sometimes I fall off the chair and shit myself at that moment. I didn't do it on this show, because I had no extra drawers with me. JP

  • Nice JP ... you and Hilda both did a great job.

  • Hey JP, Rex McGee down in Carolina here, it's been too long since we shared a tune. You are a hero, keep kicking musical ass. I wish you well. Weird banjo stuff over at my banjorex youtube channel, check it out.

  • Lose the piano, geez !!! Nobody plays flat top with a piano, that's just...weird.

  • Great performance! We'd have heard it a whole lot better though if they'd shot the dam' pianist...

  • you mean his wife:D

    I doubt he's gonna do that:D

  • Great.. wonderful.

  • Anyone?

  • what kind of guitar is he playing?

  • 1:55...pianist gets off beat.

  • You're crazy right? Thats part of the routine.

  • JP's very good....the piano would sound better if this lady wasn't playing old-time gospel style (and not on a keyboard).

  • Thats not old time gospel.....rather a form know as a style of playing in Cape Breton,N.S. to accompany fiddle players. Don't criticize what you don't understand.

  • Fair enough. I don't understand why Cape Breteon style sound like old timey gospel style.

  • Sorry - Beaumont Rag - and I agree - pianos dont work with this style of guitar - too invasive/overbearing - but to each his own...and great pickin'....

  • Beaumont reel.

  • this is fantastic!!

  • Talented people playing cool music.

  • ok im gonna make one last attempt at naming the tunes he is playing here. Im going to say julius finkbines rag, fishers hornpipe, and limerock because i know he is a big dan crary fan. do i win anything if i get it right?anyone got any more video or concert footage of these guys?they really swing hard....

  • I love Dan Crary!!!

I got to see him playing at the Shetland Folk Festival when he was touring with Beppe Gambetta!

it was amazing, and they were both really nice, genuine, humble guys! as was JP when I met him!

  • beaumont rag, forked or forky deer take your pick, and macahills reel my spelling could be wrong on that one lol .nice clarence white lick on chorus of beaumont rag. beautiful.how many people can play this fast and cleanly on guitar? FeW his lovely wife is easily his equal on elec piano.nice video catch these guys live if your lucky enough never dissapoint =)

  • lol the second one is fishers hornpipe i think superfast it does sound like forky deer a little he also plays forky deer extremely well heard him play it at a bluegrass festival cheers

  • TURN THAT PIANO DOWN

His downfall at EVERY live show I've been to. I love his albums though.

  • JP Is the man!

  • The 2nd one is definitely the Fisher's Hornpipe--they're all great!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow! Lol amusing

  • is the 2nd one fishermans hornpipe or something

  • this guy came to my place over 4 times and played at our party several times and stayed the night with us. He drank 24 beers in one night!

  • why do you feel the need to tell everyone that he drank 24 beer?motormouth no one cares

  • i met this guy a year ago i even went to his place with my grand father

  • JP's a wicked picker.good singer/wrighter 2

  • Agreed...definitely Beaumont Rag for the first.

  • In 2001 I had the good fortune to met and have a few tunes with JP and his wife Hilda who is playing keyboard in the video. He is a joy to hang out with and special treasure on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and banjo.

  • In case anyone is interested, the tunes he plays are Flop-Eared Mule (not 100% sure on this one), Fisher's Hornpipe, and Cottonwood Joe (sometimes just called Cottonwood reel)

  • Correction on the tunes he's playing: It's Beaumont Rag, Forked Deer, and then maybe the already mentioned Cottonwood Reel (i don't know that tune).

  • The 2nd tune is known as Fisher's where I am from. I've never heard it called 'Forked Deer' but I'm sure that's just an alternate name!

  • You are right, the second tune is fisher's hornpipe. I have a bad tendency to confuse Forked Deer and Fisher's Hornpipe.

  • Fantastic. I am a fan from now on! Hadn't heard about him. Love his style. Great sounding guitar too

  • excellent, thanks
