my parents and us their children are poor in the province. we the children never give up . we go to college no matter what course. well all of us are now in the U. S. but we have to work very hard 2 jobs for 20 years . we were able to beat the life we have before in the philippines. I never go back for 32 years I felt that America have us suceed and this is our country now.... never regret I left the philippines.

I'm married to a filipina and have visited the country several times to visit family and I still find it a very humbling experience to see such dire poverty existing hand in hand with immense wealth..through it all the people have such patience and acceptance of their situation, it really puts things into perspective for me.

the roman catholic church in the philippines is for population explosion, she tolerates poverty and sees untidy children from slum areas as "blessings from God." she is against the plan of creating another "las vegas" in the country. thus. depriving filipinos of employment opportunities. it is a shame for us. filipinos because we brag of ourselves as "the only christian nation in asia" and yet were branded as one of the most corrupt nation in the world! WOE TO THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH!

It breaks my heart to watch this. I went to Manila last year and I notice that there are more slums and beggars compared to my hometown of Jakarta, and I was very surprised! I wonder why is this so, since our two countries are almost identical in every aspect. In Indonesia, the problem is that countryside residents tend to flock to the capital city in search of a 'better life', but they ended up stranded in slums because there's no enough jobs. What's the problem in the Philippines?
