Hey, anyone know how to get rid of cold sores out there? If so, please reply with some home remedies that will (hopefully) work ASAP! I have a very important Christmas party on Friday and I REALLY need help!

Q1: I read somewhere that you should put petroleum jelly on it to stop it from spreading, does it work?

Q2: Is it true that you're supposed to keep it dry?

l-lysine. take 1500 mg a day. stay away from foods that are high in argine. (google it there are charts out there. ) i found a months supply of lysine at target for $2.49

ALWAYS wash your hands before and after touching your coldsore, wash your pillow cases each night.. keep coldsore dry as possible dont lick your lips.. if the coldsore breaks open it will take 5-7 days to heal.. if your coldsore has broken open and you want to dry it out..the best is chlorhexidine 0.5% 70% alcohol..just put a few drops of this on there.. if you dont have any of that you can use iodine antiseptic.. if you dont wash your hands you can transfer this to the genital region! Guys use a very minty toothpaste trust me it burns the stufff that is inside the cold swore it will be out in weeks! i use this all the time

I've found that lysine works really well. You can buy it at a local drug store over the counter. It comes in capsules, tablets, and a topical ointment called super-lysine +. I take 2-4 a day when I immediately start to feel it. Personally I can't put any topical ointment on mine it always seems to enrage it so if your that type stick to the pills! However my daughter uses the ointment and it works great for her. If you get em you gotta find your own technique. Good luck!!
