Dude, I was a diehard Sodom fan before this album came out, but when I heard this LP, I never got into it. The music was just out of place. This album sucks beyond belief. Hate to say it, but it's the honest truth. I can't make out one riff from this entire LP. I love all their other stuff, but this...no. Crap. Sorry.

You know they did two recordings of this album? And the worst one, which is this, ended up (by mistake) being the most widespread? You should check out the other version, it's on youtube with "(1985 - 1ST Version)" after each song title (but that is misleading, as it is actually the second version). It sounds a lot more "black" and evil and just plain better. It is the original Steamhammer/SPV vinyl (but that can also be misleading, since they also rereleased the "wrong" version on cd, beware).
Great years....Venom, Celtic Frost, Sodom the fathers of primary black metal.I absolutely love Sodom.In all their albums.From Black to Thrash they rule
@hmdiaz1 Sorta proto-black metal. The genre hadn't quite found it's identity at the time Sodom was putting out their first few albums, but Sodom did help define the genre, if that makes sense.
Kreator kicks Sodom's ass however I like this record. This is very funny album. They've never been technically as good as Kreator and never had such good production but they knew how to have fun with music. And this is very funny stuff. They made such comedy horror death metal (it's not even thrash) and they were pioneers of something like that. Mayhem? Forget about them. Sodom was the main inspiration for Mayhem and Mayhem never reached that point of absurd in metal music.

Of course, it is all about taste and opinions but Sodom always made music to me that wasn't to be taken too seriously. I like the comedy horror death view, but you have to add war in there as well. Comedy, war, horror, death metal sounds good to me.

It took a long time to get into this record, but now it's my absolute SODOM fave. I even can't say which version of the record I prefer... mostly I listen to the European one, but the title track somehow here is slightly more atmospheric.
anyway, this is the essence of 80's Black Metal! Next to "Into The Abyss", one of the darkest recordings of that time...

Because they're more popular and more mainstream people tend to acknowledge them. So certain people just say any band smaller than them, is better. Which is idiotic. I love Slayer and I love Sodom but they shouldn't be compared to one another. I think a lot of people just need to shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. or die. Which ever works fine with me.

Because they're more popular and more mainstream people tend to acknowledge them. So certain people just say any band smaller than them, is better. Which is idiotic. I love Slayer and I love Sodom but they shouldn't be compared to one another. I think a lot of people just need to shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. or die. Which ever works fine with me.
