I've lived in Australia since I was two, but cause I was born in the UK during certain dates I'm not allowed to give blood here incase I have mad cow disease! lols! ^^
oh about the prion filter, its expensive, so even today, in spite of the expectation of future problems related to prions, the blood banks are NOT using the prion filters to filter blood. It is unknown how many may already have the prions in their blood as the disease takes 20 or more years to manifest and currently diagnosis, even with autopsy, is not 100%. We all should donate blood, in helping others we help ourselves.
Even the American Red Cross will not take American's blood if they spent time overseas in areas where their were outbreaks of Creutzfeldt-Jakob (mad cow) disease. Only in the last couple of years did science have a filter 'fine' enough to filter out the prions associated with CJD. What many do not know is that the brain (autopsy after death) looks the same for CJD, Alzheimers, Dementia and other brain disorders. In the future these blood born prion diseases are expected to exceed cancer, fyi.
For all your friends back here in Canada though, the Canadian Red Cross no longer takes blood donations. It's all done through Canadian Blood Services.
ok there is pretty, and then there is really pretty, but you are excessively cute. i want to give you a giant bear hug. i see japan culture has gotten to you.
They always tell me to gain weight they say i need to be 135 at least for 5' 2'" for a female which is stupid because thats pudgy getting fat for me and my body tpye plus my dad a doc and im in the medical field but they seem to think they know better so i dont give blood and cant ugh
yall r so cute! I haven't donated blood in a while cuz the last few times they told me my iron was too low to donate >.< but I work at a hospital and we r having a blood drive next week so I will try to donate again (while I'm on the clock of course lol)
Saw this a few days ago. Thanks to this video I learned a bit about blood donation. I was under the impression that foreigners were not allowed to donate blood. Now I know different.
Oh, I thought at first YOU donated your blood to the Japanese Red Cross and surprised because I know an American lady who was rejected since she couldn't get the small prints of their explanations just after the earthquake.
I once donated blood and was kind of regretting it, because I got anxious really fast when doing something physically demanding. And got scolded for being lazy at the dojo :( that 0,5 L really was noticeable
wow, your music is so great!! it sounds very cheap and that is the great part of it.
the image of your music and the sound is like a toy marching band with a bear, monkey or racoon playing. what kind of instruments are you using? guitars and pianica, is it?
I've donated blood once (illegally, ahaha), and I was bruised for like a week afterwards. They missed the vein whilst jabbing me. Unfortunately (fortunately?), I'm banned from giving blood because I'm gay. Otherwise, I'd be giving blood regularly.
I remember my first time donating blood. I'm SO damn scared of the needle (like honestly scared) but I REALLY wanna try. My hands were shaking and so cold. The nurse told me to relax and I didn't even realize she had already injected me. lol.
What I wanna say is, trust me... You guys who meet the requirement to do a blood donation should try. It didn't hurt at all & you will feel like, 'Oh, I'm doing something useful for those in need.' Its a nice feeling seriously. xD
Now i want to donate too... but I'm almost 19 and i still don't know what my blood type is.... Maybe I'll go take care of it this summer. I really feel like helping someone who is in need of it. :)
@amanemisalove - have you ever tried giving blood in Japan? I have, and was flatly told several times "外人の血だめ!" (Foreigners blood is no good!) And trust me, it has NOTHING to do with being different blood types...considering there are only four bloody groups on the entire planet!!
@GhostAholics To be honest, I remember hearing a few years ago that foreigners were completely restricted from donating blood too, but it's changed now. Generally, if you're from the US or Canada, and you haven't travelled much, you're good to go. :P
That seems nice! When you donate blood here in the States, they give you a juice box and cookies. Sometimes, a t-shirt that is XXL. Haha. Ryuhei did a very good thing! ^.^ Wish I could donate blood to the Japanese. D:
I'm from Europe (Poland). I donate almost regular (two months delay for blood and two weeks for plasma). I've over 16l done. It's nice to see how it looks like in Japan. I say it's pretty different. We have one drain form one hand for sample. Next wait until laboratory check sample (few minutes.. about 10) and second from another hand 0,45l max (if you don't feel bad during process). You can donate if you're 18 to 65. Reward: 8 plate of chocolates and pride beign honourus blood donator ;)
@japundit so theoretically, it could extend to exclude Japanese nationals who have lived overseas, so it's not as if they are banning foreigners specifically, although for those who were born and raised in another country (especially Europe) it's extremely strict..
Is there a different, stricter set of restrictions applied to foreigners as suggested by the remark "Unfortunately, the restrictions for foreigners are very strict." ?
@japundit "If your total period of time in a high-risk country during a high-risk period is equal to 6 months or more than you are banned from blood donations for life." Then the first restriction on the list continues to exclude most people from the UK from donating: "Anybody who has spent a TOTAL of 30+ days in the UK between the years 1980 and 1996."
@japundit "Anybody who has spent a TOTAL of 6+ months in Ireland, Italy, Holland, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Portugal, between the years of 1980 and 2004. "
@japundit See my comment below. "t's not as if they are banning foreigners specifically, although for those who were born and raised in another country (especially Europe) it's extremely strict.."
@japundit ~okay~, but if you were born in those countries, you don't really have much of a choice, do you? I never said JAPAN IS RACIST, I said "the restrictions are strict for foreigners---> meaning for those who have lived outside of Japan" because it's the truth.
@Ciaela Hmm... I know you never said Japan is racist, though some of your commenters seem to have come to that conclusion. Anyway, words have meanings, and "foreigner" (as well as 外国人, which appears in your subtitles) does not mean "those who have lived outside of Japan." These terms refer to non-Japanese. Restrictions on blood donation in Japan apply equally to both foreigners/外人 and to Japanese who lived in certain countries during certain periods.
@japundit I don't know what you want me to say. I was not saying Japan is racist, and it was not my intent for people to come to that conclusion on their own. It's not like I script these things, I was just explaining my situation quickly before joining Ryuhei back inside. I just wanted to make a video documenting something GOOD that we did, you're hung up on one detail that doesn't have anything to do with the entire message, and I'm sure you KNOW I didn't mean it like that.
Donating blood is so good! I have an issue with needles and have to go with a friend or family member so they can distract me from the needle... But, I like to give blood too. :D
I've given blood for a long time. Besides the obvious resons for donating, I just want to cover my ass in case there is heaven and all. I'm a big time sinner but figure the big guy upstairs has to take in account some lives I must have saved. Or maybe this will piss him off for making him ponder so much about it. Giving blood is not about recieving but the most I've ever gotten is a mug that said "the gallon club" or something. Had a chip on it too. :/
I donate blood every 3 months, i only started when coming to uni,and its been 3 years now since i started ^__^. But Dam they give you so muvh cool stuff there. All we get is cookies....... XDPs Ryuhei looked lkind of pale when he came out of that...He didnt faint or nothing did he ???
i once volunteered to donate blood...travelled 2 hours to the hospital(in bad traffic) to only be told i was underweight so i coudln't donate blood..that was when i was 16 or maybe 17(can't remember)..i weighed under 45 kilos then.
I cant donate blood in Japan because I have asthma. Which I don't really understand... Also race has nothing to do with whether or not you can donate blood.
@CeoMaple Exactly. I passed every one of the "foreign" requirements, but apparently if you are currently on Asthma medication it's not good.. But they are also concerned that you are at a higher risk of a panic induced asthma attack during the transfusion or something. Unfortunately I'm allergic to everything and recently I'm taking breathing meds, and it disqualifies me until I stop taking inhalants? Which might happen in the future--but right now, it's allergy season.
That is a bit different they separate the plasma out of the blood and return the cells back to you . I stopped only because the nearest plasma center is a 45 minute drive and gas is not cheap anymore .
Are 13 year olds allowed to donate blood? And is there red cross places in Canada? If so, could someone help me find one? (I have no idea where to begin...)
I give blood every 3 months if i forget i get a letter asking cause my blood is rare type 00- + i got high white cell count good immune system + i'm a big guy anyway so lot there the britsh aid severices took some over with the aid too i hope mine made it over aswell if they can use it.
Some of my friends couldn't donate either (in US) because one had new piercings and the other was from Turkey. There are a lot of restrictions on foreigners in EVERY country and there are more on everyone's lifestyle, travel, age and weight and previous medical history. That's why they have that long questionnaire before you get sticked.
Wow they really know how to treat their doners at that Red Cross 0.0.....Normally when my friends and I donate we just get a sticker telling us when we scheduled our next appointment XD
My friends and I go to the Red Cross to donate every chance we get, but I'm kinda anemic, so I rarely get to donate because my iron is too low :/ But that doesn't stop me from trying!!!!
It seams really racist to not accept blood by non-Japanese. I hate how racist they can be. They really shouldn't be discriminating in a time of crisis.
@amanemisalove there's so few foreigners that its not worth the liability. its pretty much about cost and legality, over racism. its the same thing in America. a lot of asians can't give blood cuz of hepatitis B vaccines and infections. not every clinic can do a hepatitis B test while you wait. same concept.
@wickedlady4180 there not being Racist in Japan you can donate blood only if you qualify just like any other country its not Racism its obviously she didn't qualify
@wickedlady4180 I'm actually doing a blood drive in America in a few months and like Japan, the can't take blood from anybody who wasn't born in America or Japan in this instance. You can be any race. The only thing is you have to be born in the country you are giving blood to.
Thanks for posting this. :) It's very kind of Ryuhei to donate blood. I've never donated blood before either, Micaela. Don't feel bad about it or anything. :P
I don't know what I can do to help, but I will continue to like and favourite these videos to help Japan! It's hard to do anything because I don't have any money, I'm just a sixteen year old with no money. Well actually today was supposed to be my first day of work but I live in Canada so we ended up having a snow storm which prevented me from doing my job. :(
(Lawn Aeration) I originally decided to split my pay in half and donate to the red cross but kinda kard when I can't work (-_-)
Wow Japanese people get gifts after donating blood, but we only get stickers in the US. That's it, I'm moving to Japan and finding out if I can donate blood LOL. J/K Anyhow I'm glad Ryuhei got to help :)
Ciaela, R U really naive of racist attitude of OFFICIALDOM there? "Foreigners" whose families been there 4 generations R denied citizenship. Japan-born, Korean-descent people get citizenship on condition of destroying family photos, letters & other cherished items that R evidence that they're not racially Japanese. In recent yrs. several gov't .people, there, have publicly said blatant racist things about racial minorities & workers of US There's much evidence THE PEOPLE R very nice 2 all races
Strange they don't accept foreigner blood. I have type O. Anyway long ago in different parts of asia they believed that blood types had to do with personality, compatibility and "race". Science rejected the idea but who knows maybe people still cling to this bs.
Donating blood is actually one of my favourite things to do in the world! I go with a group of friends and we usually race to see who can fill the bag the fastest. Unfortunately, I've just gotten a tattoo so Canadian red cross centers won't take my blood for 6 months.
PS: I liked the song, good to hear some of your stuff.
so you mean if i go to japan i can't donate blood??
that sucks!!!
in America, when you donate blood they give you a witty blood donating related t-shirt . . . i have that says "Are You My Type?" . . . and something they give you coupons . . .like a free message and so and so spa
I've lived in Australia since I was two, but cause I was born in the UK during certain dates I'm not allowed to give blood here incase I have mad cow disease! lols! ^^

I wonder what Ciaela's disqualification was..?
Some of my friends couldn't donate either (in US) because one had new piercings and the other was from Turkey. There are a lot of restrictions on foreigners in EVERY country and there are more on everyone's lifestyle, travel, age and weight and previous medical history. That's why they have that long questionnaire before you get sticked.

I've never donated blood before eiter but I would if I could! Anyway, that's so sweet of Ryuhei to do! :)

They really shouldn't be discriminating in a time of crisis.
wickedlady4180 11 months ago
@wickedlady4180 They're not being racist. How about you actually look up the Japanese blood donation requirements before you judge.

@amanemisalove So he is right or not then?
cr4yv3n 11 months ago
@amanemisalove there's so few foreigners that its not worth the liability. its pretty much about cost and legality, over racism. its the same thing in America. a lot of asians can't give blood cuz of hepatitis B vaccines and infections. not every clinic can do a hepatitis B test while you wait. same concept.
babochureum 11 months ago
@amanemisalove yeah, ok! So they refused her blood, but happened to take the blood of the jepanese person she was w/? Not cool.
wickedlady4180 11 months ago
@wickedlady4180 You're taking this as a racial thing when it's actually about where she was born and where she has lived.
Marieila 10 months ago
@wickedlady4180 there not being Racist in Japan you can donate blood only if you qualify just like any other country its not Racism its obviously she didn't qualify
joe8650 11 months ago 2
@wickedlady4180 How's that racist... -__-
How about this, go get some Japanese blood, and inject yourself with it.
What happens to you will be the same reason why they will not accept your blood.
SimplicityInItself 11 months ago
@wickedlady4180 actually its not about race. some people qualify to donate and some do not. the colour of her skin has nothing to do with it.
worldtravel101 11 months ago
@wickedlady4180 Oh god, total facepalm. No wonder you are American, lol.
pedarikarhu 11 months ago

AhuitzotlTlazohtla 11 months ago
Strange they don't accept foreigner blood. I have type O. Anyway long ago in different parts of asia they believed that blood types had to do with personality, compatibility and "race". Science rejected the idea but who knows maybe people still cling to this bs.

Donating blood is actually one of my favourite things to do in the world! I go with a group of friends and we usually race to see who can fill the bag the fastest. Unfortunately, I've just gotten a tattoo so Canadian red cross centers won't take my blood for 6 months.
PS: I liked the song, good to hear some of your stuff.

I tried to donate blood but they couldnt find any veins in my arms and they didnt wanna dig around in my arm with the needle
arsnel366 11 months ago
so you mean if i go to japan i can't donate blood??
that sucks!!!
in America, when you donate blood they give you a witty blood donating related t-shirt . . . i have that says "Are You My Type?" . . . and something they give you coupons . . .like a free message and so and so spa
